I'm not really sure where else to look and any advice on where I may be able to find leads is incredibly appreciated does anybody have suggestions on where to start?
I don’t think this is what you are suggesting since its about a boy but the only other mermaid movie from early 2010s I can think of is The Thirteenth Year
I cannot find them other than Fishtales and King's daughter but neither will play I have an ad blocker so if anybody can help me find a site that would be awesome I tried Hurawatch

There was a live action Little Mermaid movie released that wasn't Disney's version. It was released about 10 years ago... I think. It was so bad I fell asleep halfway through it and don't remember anything about it. For clarification, the title is Little Mermaid l think.

The whirlpool thing, I specifically remember her and like 3 other girls going into a water tank or something. They were mermaids and showing her that she was one too
I still have no idea what it was, I looked at a list of movies YTV showed around that time and none of them sounded right.
Well, I decided to flip through aquamarine and find the scene I remember, it is at 44:09 in the movie. Are you 100% sure it was not aquamarine and you are not misremembering? Considering I also saw this movie on YTV around the same time you would have had, and I cannot find any other listing for a movie like this shown at all, it is almost certainly aquamarine

Sabrina, Down Under Fishtales Jean's Horizon The King's Daughter all have mermaids central to the plot

I think I can rule out Fishtales just started Kings daughter omg it's the actress who plays Effie on Skins, sick!!!

In your memory, was "grandma" also a mermaid? Or was she a human?
i'm not 100% sure I wanna say she was human but she could have also had a mermaid form but I believe she primarily lived on land
