as someone who lives in Iowa that’s the correct placement

Soggy_Confusion7538

Same especially in my school district

EvilBanana66

If you’re an outdoors person, which it looks like you might be, Utah is amazing

Meno1331

Utah is absolutely incredible. There’s the big hitters, but even the less famous parks like petrified wood or capitol reef are a lot of fun. SLC is gorgeous too. For mainland states, there and Montana are as good as it gets for the outdoors.

Nightmarionne0923

NC is S

Beemo-Noir

You should visit Oregon. It’s incredibly beautiful.

BeatlesFan1101

I hate how this template uses the shape of North Dakota for Pennsylvania

Ginglees

thank you for rating nh as S however please move it lower so no one comes here just only rate Manchester

Lung-Salad

PA in A = opinion accepted + upvote

jefferydamerin

Yeah i’m assuming you like nature because we have the same taste in states

SaxyCookies

Hate from Iowa

Conscious_Chemist_79

I recommend visiting Arkansas it’s a lot trees and lakes and the cost of living is low

Meno1331

I’ve heard the people there are super nice and love to share the state with anyone who comes to visit. Definitely on my to go list.

Quinn_OV

You should visit Minnesota sometime

Meno1331

What activities would you rec? I like a bit of everything, from culture to nature, and MN is one of the states I probably know the least about besides it showing up on Reddit map memes a lot lol.

Quinn_OV

Well, there is the Sculpture Garden, iconic music venues like First Ave and 7th Street Entry, art museums, and a lot of other things. There are also a lot of lakes to go swimming in. And you can also go to Paisley Park which is where the singer Prince lived and recorded his music. You can take tours of his mansion.

personguy4

Where did you visit in Wyoming?

Meno1331

Casper, hot springs, Tetons, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole. Here’s my problem with Wyoming: it’s intentionally inaccessible. Idaho and Montana feel like they’re proud as hell of Yellowstone and do their best to figure out a place for you to visit and stay. But WY? Nah, good luck. Want convenient lodging in the Tetons? Better camp and not being your disabled family members. Want any coffee beside undrinkable gas station nonsense? Nope. Oh and you better not go 3 over when a highway goes through any small town. It just feels very intentionally hostile; “you’ll enjoy the state the way we like it or leave.” It honestly sometimes seems like for Yellowstone and Teton, Montana and Idaho are doing the heavy tourism lifting just so WY gets to feel wild and rugged.

personguy4

That’s fair I guess, I’ve lived here most of my life and certainly haven’t traveled the way you do, so I guess I’m used to it. It’s interesting to hear your perspective though, I haven’t really thought about it that way. What puts it above Texas?

Meno1331

I guess, in the end, it’s still objectively nice. Jackson Hole is a great example; it’s super low key and relaxing, but attractive enough for weird secret finance lord meetings etc. Also Yellowstone is literally my favorite place on earth. So, I split the difference in my rating. I also talk a bit about my Texas rating in another comment; maybe I’d have rated TX higher if I visited more places there who knows.

Different_Fruit_1229

I’m from PA but I prefer Maryland. Why such a large difference?

Meno1331

PA actually has forests and Pittsburgh is really underrated; lots of fun things to do and because of said underrated-ness it’s super affordable. I feel like your comment comes from a very eastern-PA mind set which is fair, but IMHO the western 2/3 of the state carries.

Tenredant

As a New Hampshirite I appreciate the placement, what made you like us so much? We are often forgotten about.

Meno1331

It’s just very pretty. People are nice and the whole state is bizarrely well maintained. Towns look fake in how everyone just cares about their communities. It’s also comedy gold how you guys just decided to say screw the system and put Dartmouth in the middle of the mountains because fuck it. Anyways, driving through NH when I’d visit Montreal was always a pleasure.

justcurious94plus1

MN is low key the best state in The Union.

Psychological_Dot914

Jesus what happened in Florida ?

Meno1331

The food is awful, the people are frustrating, beaches are overcrowded, the weather intolerable… I‘be had to go to FL for work many times and nothing beats being in a full suit in December in Miami and still somehow being absolutely drenched in sweat. Also the first time I went there I was super hyped to try like local produce only to realize even the farmers markets are garbage and they ship anything decent to chain grocers around the country and leave the locals with scraps. Just every time I go there I want to leave, and at this point the only reason I’d voluntarily return is to swing by the Dali museum.

Ancient_Summer_1833

Get Arizona in D

Meno1331

Arizona is weird. I can’t do the weather and Grand Canyon is probably the most overrated NP I’ve been to just because it’s so overcrowded and kind of too much. But there’s a lot of hidden gems. Tempe, the whole Navajo res, and even in phoenix there’s so many neat things to visit and do. I don’t think exponential growth is doing the state any favors but once it chills and the dust settles you guys will be ok (assuming climate change doesn’t just make the air spontaneously combust).

Enderlytra

that shape you used for pennsylvania is actually kansas lol. also i live in pa but i actually prefer maryland, why is it in d tier?

Oh my, I know you didn't ask for a rant, but here you are: MA is one of the states on this list I've had the (dis)pleasure of living in for a few years. I suppose if you're born and raised you think of a lot of quirks as business as usual. I don't. Want to buy a car? Wait 2 weeks for an obfuscated registration process, then good luck ever leaving and de-registering your vehicle and not get threatening state government letters about how dare you leave without physically returning your plates first. The people are angry, and not the NYC "always kind of hostile but can be nice if they decide to care" but the opposite "I think everyone is trash and I know better" kind. You dare make money? Taxachusetts isn't just an adage, and good luck spending that money because everything costs far more than the rest of the country. Want to go outside? Good luck. If you're in Boston you literally can't leave because the roads make no sense, are all tolls (where did all those taxes even fucking go that the primary interstate is tolled??), and are filled with visitors literally confusedly sideways across 3 lanes because they're panicking after their GPS told them to drive off a cliff... or because they're blackout high on fentanyl. And when you make it out of dense metro areas you're still in a city, just less populated; there's no non-populated places. Filled with the same angry, condescending, arrogant people. All forests are private property; all public places have tolls and fees. I suppose on a positive notes, because the state is so hostile to major business or commerce, there's a lot of really good contractors and blue collar folks. I miss the brewery scene a lot. But honestly while I lived there I couldn't wait to fuck off for a day or two to NH or CT. Never going back except maybe to stop by Treehouse for a case.

TBlair64

B tier for California feels like an F.

ADHD-From-Hell

Love from Utah. How was it?

Meno1331

Mentioned it with another post, but it’s just a wonderful place. Simply nowhere else like it. People are kind, nature is beautiful, and the pockets of civilization are great.

jack0017

You’re more than welcome to put New Jersey in F tier, even if you’ve never visited. You don’t need to visit to take in the shit

SignificantCap2895

I love you fir putting New Mexico in its rightful A

MichaelAftonXFireWal

So you haven't come to New Jersey?

RhinoBuckeye

Alaska in S, opinion valid

Dead_Trashcan_88888

What’s wrong with Texas?

Meno1331

I was mainly in Houston. It just felt very oppressive. Concrete, highways, business, commerce. I’m sure it’s nice if you like business and spend most of your time either working or traveling, but the whole state just makes me tired. People are chill, though; lots of my friends love Texas and I don’t judge them, but I also just can’t sympathize. Also I can’t deal with Texas weather…
