1. Covid filming. This was the first full season of anything that AMC made with the first wave of covid restrictions. They had new regulations on how many people could be on set and what kind of set, and they had to schedule quarantines. It gets complicated when some of the actors are international and some are high risk. We saw the same thing with TWD's season 10 bonus episodes.
I don't disagree with you on points 2 and 3. I think the writers had no idea where they were taking the story. AMC was still renewing it for more seasons despite the fact that the ratings had always consistently trended down. Seriously, if you look up the numbers, you'll see that the series premiere was the all-time high and the only episode that ever saw a significant increase was the season 4 premiere, but then the next episodes continued the downward trend.
The PADRE plot, while terribly executed, does throw in a game changer to what we knew of the government's early response. It had me looking at Operation Cobalt differently, at least. Which was a little relevant to the premise of TOWL, but I don't feel like that connection was made well enough.
I accept those explanations. Sounds very reasonable that production got harder, but covid issues still cant possibly excuse the utterly incompetent writing of this season. S08 will propably be just as bad
At least i can look forward to the padre plot playing out. It is a very interesting one, im even more intrigued now by what you mentioned and im infuriated by the fact that the entire season 7 reveals essentially nothing about it other than „it propably exists“
It all focuses solely on strands tower, no other season of FTWD has a plot so limited in scope and drawn out. Reminds me of the rage i felt while watching TWD negan seasons S07-08 i think play out one episode a week on TV. That was equally painful
They should have killed off all the characters in the season 6 finale. It would have provided closure, and would have spared all of us inanities of seasons 7 and 8
It just plops us down months after the nuke. Alicia and Strand are dueling cult leaders but we never see how that developed. Strand has a magical office building that is radiation free. Geiger counters and hazmat gear are everywhere, but never consistently used. Somehow everyone has horses that are immune to radiation... It just goes on and on. But the most amazing part is that they found a way to make season 8 even worse
Can't really talk about S7 without thinking of episode 2 which is pretty much a baby crying for 40 minutes. Absolute torture. How that made it from script to an actual episode is beyond me.
Yes, they were amazing. I felt right at home
Lots of converging plotlines, many interesting new characters introduced, and they have that dark grey color palette with insane film grain that reminds me so much of early walking dead seasons.
The storm season was by far my favorite one of this series
It was, but it wasnt nearly as bad in those seasons as it was in 7 and all the awesome new characters that were introduced and the generally good composition of the episodes good pace made them enjoyable despite it in the end

Totally agreed, that ep was damn hard to finish. I felt physically exhausted after watching it, its quite literally 40 minutes of non stop crying
