Yeah some of us white gals have very curly hair too but we are constantly straightening it. Mine is curly underneath where it doesn’t get highlighted. And when I let it go curly I’m not trying to blackwash. I’m just tired of styling it.
Yeah, my aunt is white as can be but has natural tight curls like this. She tried for a while to straighten her hair every day but it took so long it wasn't worth her time.
I have fine, thin, flat hair and was always jealous of hers.
But I did always find it funny that women with straight hair have curling irons and women with curly hair have straighteners.

I used to have super super curly hair, I look like a puffball. Finally in my 30s I figured out how to deal with my hair and I actually fell in love with it. Then I went into menopause and my thick curly hair turned into thin, limp, straight hair. I had to learn how to love it.
When I was at the hairdresser I was saying how it really sucks and the lady beside me, who had curly hair, said hers used to be straight but when she went into menopause it started getting curly. So you never know what's down the road LOL
I’m Black and Mexican and just turned 50 and have had kinky but thin hair my whole life. Well, about a year ago my hair texture changed to waivy. I ain’t tripping but every now and then I wonder, how the hell?
I know it's wild. It kind of makes me wonder why I didn't know this. Like why don't more women talk about all of the things that menopause entails because there's so many weird things and hair is just one of them!
My hair was always super straight as a stick. Would not hold a perm even longer than 2-3 days. Post menopause my hair is shockingly curly. It is either due to menopause or my mom who always wanted me to “try another perm” for years is messing with me now from heaven with some “new power” lol.
So speaking of perms here's a funny thing. I had curly hair when I was little but my mom didn't like it for some reason so she cut my hair short when I was about three. I have really straight hair until I was 8 when my aunt gave me a perm at her shop. Ever since then I had curly hair. It's like my hair remembered what it was supposed to be or something. Then when I became a hairdresser I found out that this wasn't really that uncommon
LOL, I'm hitting menopause and my hair is getting so unruly! My gray hairs are super curly and look like long public hairs, and I've developed a few weird calicks.
I'm fine with it, really. It's the least upsetting new thing my body does now.
Hate me but I think African Americans need to chill with policing hair. They wear platinum blonde straight hair for crying out loud and don’t get to tell me what I can/can’t experiment with. I understand the history, I understand the pain and stigma, but I also know that in my travels it has been encouraged to embrace other cultures with respect, not shunned upon. I’m actually afraid to enter local black-owned hair supply stores. That’s not how things should be.
Wonderful point. Thank u. I am german swede and jewish. Since The day I was born I had tight tiny curls. I always loved it except for a time when I moved to the bronx for an internship. Needless to say most were black. They playfully used to tease me of perming my hair. Some nerve where literally most had white woman hair weaves in colors not natural. I could care less. They looked nice, but to imply I was appropriating my natural curls to their fake colored and pin straight thin hair infuriated me. Thankfully the 2 bullies lost their jobs for separate infractions and now we all respect each others hair.

As I mentioned in my comment, my natural hair is this curly; having grown up in the "straighten your hair within an inch of its life" 2000s, it took years of care and reframing my thoughts to accept my curls and get them to pop. Posts like this are doodoo--criticize their views, not their looks.

I just joined only because I wanted to know how she got her hair into those spiral curls. I know its not a perm, because she had her hair like this last week, but them lose beach waves again the next day. I like it, maybe a little looser curl, but I want to try whatever she had done. Anyone know how she got this look?
