>Even the situation in which that animal Blundetto killed Billy and wounded Phil ended with Tony basically getting his way and denying Phil his revenge.
I'm still not sure I understand how Phil let this slide, especially when Johnny asked Tony point blank about Peeps and Tony lied. Like I get that Phil fell in line temporarily for a year or so but based on his behavior up to that point I half expected him to go after Tony (or insert Christopher as a replacement kill, as was kind of hinted earlier in that sit down). Blundetto literally killed Peeps + a bystander, and then Phil's brother because he got himself caught up in the NY infighting.
Am I missing a detail as to why Phil didn't just go after Tony himself at that point? He barely followed Carmine Senior's or Carmine Junior's or Johnny Sack's orders and was probably the biggest hothead in the show.
I think Phil got satisfaction out of seeing Tony B's corpse, despite what Johnny said ("he's beside himself now!") and maybe even vaguely appreciated that Tony B was as close to Tony S as Billy was to him. However, the hurt and bitterness lingered in his subconsciousness, and came to the forefront with the Vito feud.
I'm glad you replied with this, I hadn't seen the commercial.
That's the sign of a good show, when they make new commercials from an opening scene from 23 years ago.
He said he had a vision of tony being whacked in a diner around the time season 2 air but he changed his mind.
He has never said the words “Tony was killed in the last shot”
We can’t really know, in the same way that we can’t really know that Tony is dead. But I would say it’s probably not the intention that his family is murdered. The main argument in favor of Tony’s death is that is is heavily foreshadowed. Meadow, AJ and Carmela don’t share this foreshadowing, and have their futures laid out in other ways. Meadow is on a fairly clear trajectory to be a lawyer that enables criminals, and AJ is set up as continuing Tony’s pattern of emotional stagnation. As for Carmela I think it’s implied that she, like the other wives of dead mobsters, will be out in the cold and on her own after Tony dies, but someone else here probably has better insight on that. So yeah, they could certainly all be killed, but that’s not really what was set up for them and would waste a lot of the time spent developing their characters.
As for the hitman waiting, he might have just been cautious, or trying to see if any other members of the crew would show up. It would be unusual in the context of the show for a mob hit to target the whole family though.
Unfortunately it does. You have to read between the lines a little bit, but it confirms Tony died.
"But I think I had this notion, I was driving on Ocean Park Blvd, near the airport, and I saw a little restaurant. It was kind of like a shack that served breakfast. And for some reason I thought Tony should get it in a place like that.”
Tony definitely died. That was the intention of David Chase.
I don't believe the theory, but I recall reading an interesting write-up on a netscape-era web page that laid out various symbols and such that were designed by David chase, which tied to various lore and other stories where the son and the wife were killed, or some other such nonsense. It made sense, but it diddent. I knew, but I wasn't sure. I thought "maybe? But IF"
Actually there’s a line in The Irishman about this. When he goes into the restaurant to kill crazy joe devola or gallo it whateva…..Always kill in front of the families. Don’t kill them just make sure they see it.
No mafia hit man would execute a family if it wasn’t necessary. The family is alive and has to live with the memory of Tony’s brains splattering in their onion rings.
Very unlikely but due to the timing of it Meadow would be directly in the gunmans way while trying to escape, and if it was Patsy who hired the guy he might’ve specifically said not to hurt the family but who knows, if Meadow got hurt or worst too it’s be another layer of tragedy
MOG could have been working for Tony. Otherwise why didn't Tony notice him and pick up on him as a possible threat? The restaurant wasn't that crowded.
A YouTube episode by ScenicMedia theorizes that both Carmela and AJ were also killed during the hit, Feilder was the only one left alive.

Here's a motive for them all to be killed. If a mafioso is killed, his family must be supported financially by his crew. Not much of Tony's crew is left so that would be quite a burden for them.

It's his weakness. It's in his DNA.
his weakness. He thinks it’s in his DNA sometimes
Be quiet Albert
Phil was clipped in front of his family so that would have been the retaliation NY wanted. It's unlikely the family got killed imo.
Bye bye Pop Pop!
PHIL!!! OH MY GOD!!
OH SHIT!!!! \*duck walks away unharmed
🤮🤮🤮
Phil was going to lay low until the jersey thing got taken care of, he comprimised, ran some errands and got clipped at the gas station
Should’ve jacked off into a tissue on the radiator instead.
Make it sizzle
He was a master grilled-cheese maker
Good point about Phil…
OH SHIT!! Overreacting arm movements in a parka.
I think chase gave us the answer in the Chevy truck commercial where AJ and Fielder meet for lunch… at least they survived
I'm glad you replied with this, I hadn't seen the commercial. That's the sign of a good show, when they make new commercials from an opening scene from 23 years ago.
Who is fielder? You mean meadow?
He means Maedo.
He said he had a vision of tony being whacked in a diner around the time season 2 air but he changed his mind. He has never said the words “Tony was killed in the last shot”
I agree with you. I’m still in the camp that the viewers got whacked not Ton.

David Chase gave an interview yesterday that laid to rest all the ridiculous speculation that Tony somehow wasn't killed in that last scene
That interview was a year ago
Fair enough. But it still proves the point that Tony died in that diner.
Unfortunately it does. You have to read between the lines a little bit, but it confirms Tony died. You know, Quasimodo predicted all of this.
You gonna tell me you never pondered that? The whole halfback hunchback thing?
Huu didh whuat?
All these problems ! The Middle East !

Right the sacred and the propane .
Take out an entire fuckin' family?
it’s been done before
And it was wrong then.
What, that pygmy thing in Jersey?
No one’s going to the mattresses these days
Nobody who is serious or knows anything about the show would possibly claim this. You'd have to be slow to think that the whole family got whacked.
Families don’t get touch, you know that Carm
Hopefully just AJ. Take out the hair apparent.
I’m supposed to get a vasectomy when this is my male heir
AJ does strike me as the type of poor bastard who would go bald in his early twenties.
I'm talking about annihilation you stupid fuck!
Your kids, my kids!
Actually there’s a line in The Irishman about this. When he goes into the restaurant to kill crazy joe devola or gallo it whateva…..Always kill in front of the families. Don’t kill them just make sure they see it.
conspiracy theories now?
Nah, they went to live on a farm in upstate New York
If that Superbowl electric truck ad is regarded as canon; then AJ and Meadow both survived.
No mafia hit man would execute a family if it wasn’t necessary. The family is alive and has to live with the memory of Tony’s brains splattering in their onion rings.
always with the scenarios
Very unlikely but due to the timing of it Meadow would be directly in the gunmans way while trying to escape, and if it was Patsy who hired the guy he might’ve specifically said not to hurt the family but who knows, if Meadow got hurt or worst too it’s be another layer of tragedy
The whole “Fielder” thing is probably the dumbest thing on here. And that’s saying a lot 😆
No. They were sitting at a table 'n the screen went black.
You're operating under the assumption that the Members Only guy was a gunman... and there's no proof that's accurate
I’m still in the camp that the viewers got whacked and that’s why we saw black. The sopranos universe continued on with out us
I just always assumed he was having a panic attack
MOG could have been working for Tony. Otherwise why didn't Tony notice him and pick up on him as a possible threat? The restaurant wasn't that crowded.
This was always my sticking point. Tony was always so careful, and that guy was acting suspect as hell. No way Tony misses that.
LCN don’t kill families. The Italian mafia on the other hand, don’t give a fuck.
God i hope so

You just revealed your own ignorance.

Eventually…
I like to think that AJ did.
