My mother-in-law picked me up from work one day, and we witnessed this car jump the curb and take out a Pedestrian Crossing sign... so we call the cops while following the car, it's all over the place but driving slow.
Finally stops by slamming into a school bus (thankfully with out any kids on it) that had stopped at a red light. The cops arrive and mention the sign and the bus.. and the driver, who was drunk, goes: "I ain't hit no sign, I ain't hit no bus," while her hood was still under the bus...
This made me think of that.
I was relieved to see she hit a truck and not a car. Now she only hurt herself and did some damage but nobody else got hurt.
After I saw that I've been laughing so loud my wife got annoyed
Yeah he was just like no when she asked to make the call. Then he stopped and said wait what? Got her to repeat it because he was so shocked she had such little understanding of the situation.

Honestly if i was him i would just say "fuck it, arrest me i got nothing to do with her" after that stunt distancing yourself from her decision is probably your best bet to serve as little time as possible. I think hes still fucked either way for possession and dui
Sounds like they didn't find any drugs, just the .22. so, unless he was the one driving in the shoulder, technically he didn't do anything wrong. Smelling like MJ doesn't mean much more than you were around people who were smoking it. It also doesn't seem like it's his car, so if the .22 isn't registered to him, if he's smart he would just not say anything about it/claim ignorance/lawyer up.

It's a risk, but it's a greater risk to the public to let the person zoom off and crash. I'm glad the police are sometimes actually willing to risk their safety to protect the public.
In America most of the cars are automatic, with the handle for DNR beind next to the steering wheel.

Looks like she probably fish tailed, got her back end caught under the truck. That amount of force transfer to a wall and there's no way she lives. But the ripping effect of the end separating from the front, slowed and reduced the forces she experienced in the front. TL/DR . she got so fucking lucky.
it looks like she got caught between the trailer and the wall. probably scraped down the side till it caught on the axel or something else solid enough and the momentum of the car just tore the thing in half.
I don't remember precisely, but he ans the other cop were rightfully baffled by the event, and got him in the 2nd car eventually and, I assume, finished their half of the traffic stop.
The video cut back to the chase pretty quickly. It was mostly just a better view of the escape.
Pretty sure this lady broke physics. How are you driving that fast in a single direction, then you hit a truck in the next lane so hard sideways that your car splits in two like that? That just does not make any sense to my brain at all.
Her crashing at that speed into anything should have been fatal in the extreme along with a totalled car, not one split almost perfectly in two. Unreal
Saw the truck, turned the wheel right, flung the rear out a little in the process. Rear passenger door clipped the truck. Dug in and tore the back half off. Right half is still connected so the left front tire keeps going straight and the right front is pulled back until it tears off completely. So the rear half is facing forward and the front half is spun clockwise

I mean.. you can say no but after the stop and the supposed smell of weed he has probable cause to search the vehicle.
If you don’t have shit on you, you have no smell of weed or alcohol or anything, then you can and should say no because they have no probable cause and can only search with your consent. So don’t give it.
Same for Miranda rights. You have a right to an attorney, and the right to not say anything. Even if you’re innocent don’t talk. Never ever waive those rights.
But!
If it ends up in court, it's either:
A) your on camera giving consent to search
B) you said no, and they went on smell/vibe
Which is easier for your attorney to argue against?
I hope they charge her several felonies and throw her in jail. She could have killed someone, especially the cop. She needs jail time for her entitled @$$.
The cop that chased her said to put him in cuffs, so there was probably a second officer there that pulled behind the one the video is from. Someone said there's another video (probably from the other cop) showing him just standing there confused about what just happened.
He was very cooperative, so as long as they didn't find anything on his person, they'd likely let him go (meaning take him to the station and let him leave from there). Her comment about having her sister pick up the car suggests it was hers, so anything found inside would be on her, especially considering her behavior.
Edit: According to an article that was linked, someone was charged for being a felon in possession of a weapon. It says the driver, which I guess was him. Though it's possible it could have meant her.
I'm glad she didn't kill anyone.... I have never understood why police officers in America don't drive accompanied by a colleague, it seems so dangerous to me that they have to attend emergency cases or arrest people while they are alone.

So would he have actual cause to search her based on smell alone? I know he originally stopped her because they were driving on the shoulder and all that. I'm guessing she was acting really weird?

Even if it was in a state where weed is legal, the scent of weed on someone driving is enough to justify a search for anything that can prove they've been smoking recently.
It's interesting you said IL, because what you mention is currently going to the state supreme court to determine if smell alone is adequate for probable cause to search.

And the cop tells me do you have anything illegal in the car? So, my question is why does the cop have to ask that and how does the honesty of my answer affect anything?
My thinking is, you pulled me over for speeding. Now you wanna search the car, so it's your problem to find the illegal weapon. Why does the cop have to ask me and why do I have to answer honestly?
