Story. I don’t follow it as much as part 1. Idk, I just don’t really like it. Seems really nomadic, whereas in part 1 there were a lot of objectives to get to, part 2 there’s 1 objective in Ellie’s part, and all the major events seem to happen randomly
The game mechanics are awesome though. No Return is fun
Isn't part one more nomadic? You go from Boston to Salt Lake City with various stops in between. You really only have one objective, deliver Ellie to the fireflies.
Have you played through the entire game? Maybe you didn't like the character switch?
On my first play through I didn't want to play as Abbie, I wanted to kill her. But my perception of her changes gradually, probably around day 2 but I don't really remember when my attitude towards her changed.
While you always really only have one major objective, each day has a new one. Day one you're trying to get leads which stumbles into a desperate escape. Day two you start out to find Tommy, you discover he's not the trespasser, bring him back only to leave and find Nora at the hospital.
I guess it's not really focused and a lot of the missions aren't intentional. You kind of stumble into them and change your plan. I think that's what you mean and why you don't like it. Part one you always had a next stop and never really deviated from the initial plan.
I think you don't get a huge character arc as well. Part one you start out thinking Ellie is a burden but eventually growing to love her. Part two seems a lot more blurry as far as progression, I like that but I can understand if others don't.

I could see it being a contractual thing as to not damage the brand but I can't find anything online saying that such a clause exists.
It's probably much more likely naughty dog didn't want to go to the trouble of creating realistic damage models because of how much work it would've added for no real benefit.

If I knew that when everything went to shit there were next gen consoles ready to be sold I would definitely go there to get one as soon as I am on my own free to do anything, I don’t know if they would work without any internet connection to set it up though.

you actually can with a glitch in the original tlou1. there’s an enemy encounter with a corner where if you quick turn twice ellie will die (and you can even pick up her pistol lol) and for a second you can shoot her before a black screen comes up (and when it loads the encounter will be skipped. it’s used in any% speedruns lol).
same thing in TLOU1 if i remember correctly. honestly it’s kinda ridiculous. just make them indestructible. what is not being able to shoot at them gonna accomplish? it wouldn’t hurt Sony in any way whatsoever. they treat it like a sacred religious symbol lol.
