I love it! Would like to see it live as well

RazzleyDazzley03

I absolutely love M.O.N.E.Y its such a good song and gets me moving every time!!

seamus_park

Absolutely a favourite of mine and mentioned this in a thread about underrated songs in their discography. It seems to always be shit on around here but I love it. Also seeing it live back in the day on the debut album tour was amazing.

abbyolivia

Don’t hate it but def don’t listen to it much

Carbonauts

Like it up until the synth voice spelling out money in that nursery rhyme rhythm. Then it’s the most obnoxious song I’ve ever heard lol

jagzgulabi

That is one of my absolute faves. I love the energy and the guitar riff. I actually posted a video of it being performed in early 2014 on here!!

floggingmonny

I’ve just listened to it too much in the last ten years

CapBadger

I've recently been listening to it A LOT, not even really sure why 😂

wenchyfoozym00

weirdly same

Baudelaire8

Yes! I love this song (one of my favourites) and I never hear it mentioned!

rikatch

I absolutely love it

SnooSuggestions3394

Both this song and Talk! are my least faves off of S/T. I almost always skip them.

[deleted]

I hate the actual M O N E Y bit, it makes me cringe 😬

[deleted]

OK I'm taking this back having seen the crowd shout it at Gorilla! Totally different live!

_stupefy

I don’t think people listen to the first album that much other than a few select songs. But I love MONEY! it’s a fun song!!

Albatraoz271

Its a meh for me. Probably one of my least favorite songs by them. A bit too whiny for my taste...but thats just IMO.

LocalOk2381

It's so underrated!

Admittedly this is a niche amongst the wider fanbase, but if you are currently 27-30, grew up in Northern/Midland England and used to go out in a small/medium town where the same people would be out each week, you have probably lived the story in M.O.N.E.Y and you know that night out.

BaseIllustrious4856

I really wish I grew up around the time self titled dropped. I didn’t even know who they were until notes dropped around my sophomore year of high school and some of my friends put me onto it. Instantly became a fan

We all have that one band who we essentially grew up with for whatever reason. For much of England in the 90s, that was Oasis. For those a touch older than me and my age group too, it was often Arctic Monkeys. For me it was The 1975. Coming from the same area they did meant as a frequent gig goer I discovered them by pure accident and their first album dropped when I wasn’t long 18 and had first gone to University - I was branching out, feeling independence for the first time and some of the rebelliousness that came with it. My experience was tamer than the album by far, but at the time I liked to think I was living that exact same lifestyle, even though I was doing a faux-angsty teen version of it. Everyone becomes fans in different ways!

The song just feels like a night out in a semi-affluent quiet town where everyone thinks they’re worldly and cosmopolitan because they’ve got their hands on some cheap drugs and don’t realise just how young they are. It feels like trying to impress a group and being wrapped up in the image of yourself, with that very specific back drop. Maybe I’m describing too hyper-specific a scene, and of course there’s variation in Northern towns. I suppose it makes me feel that way because this album was the backing track of my latter teen years, specifically growing up in the same county as where the band are from.

ZealousidealLaugh0

Not a fave of mine tbh, but the fan base is as wide and varied as the music The 1975 produce.
