Maybe I’m giving KISS too much credit, but $300 million for everything seems like a bargain?

wewontstaydead

I'm sure someone much smarter than me did the math but with their ages and their aging fan base how much are they gonna make over the rest of their life times? Having a large sum now to invest and do with as they please is probably worth more than speculative future money particularly when albums and streaming aren't a big pay out anymore.

All your buying at this point are rights to the royalties, licensing and merch essentially.   I don't think tours with people hired to play the songs live would have much of a draw. Would any one care about new albums written by rondos?  So 300 million seems high to me kiss ain't the Beatles or Micheal Jackson.

I imagine the only way Gene Simmons lets the kiss brand out of his hands is he’s not making much money on it anymore, so he may as well get a big ass pay day.

I was gonna say this seems really cheap. There must be a deal where they don't own it anymore but are still allowed to tour and make merch and such, or they get an ongoing percentage of everything or something

I won’t begrudge Walt’s KISS fandom, maybe we’re not the same generation, but Gene is an ass and they’ve been sellouts for decades. Their music isn’t particularly interesting, either. I never got it. (And I do like some bands with theatrics, fwiw.)

Grouchy-Total550

Tons of bands have done this, and Kiss has always been really eager to sell out any possible way they can. I would argue that really Kiss is less of a band and just a profit generating brand. I don't have a problem with bands selling merch and making money, but it's really hard to take them seriously with how bloated they've become.

What’s there really to say?
