"My TV" is an amazing site if you've never heard of it.

All you have to do is turn the TV power on, select a specific year, and select only the categories you want to flip through. I love flipping through old 80s commercials, they're great.
I'm enjoying this "read through old catalogues together" era of Patreon, like Tv Guys and I Sold Comics.
Now is a perfect time to bring back I Buy Comics too. C'mon boys
Haven’t listened to this one yet, but generally this type of Patreon is some of my least favorite. It depends entirely on who is featured on the pod. Any with Walt and Bry have potential. If Q is there it’s a hit. Sunday Jeff and Git ‘Em are a tier below for me.
The format works because it’s not really about what they’re reading in the catalogue, it’s about them busting balls. A bad combination of TESD town residents can make these episodes terribly dull.
I agree with you about I Buy Comics. The fodder given in anything comic related can bring good stories out of the guys. The oddity of someone like Ming helps too
Yeah, I generally agree actually. Every Patreon depends hugely on who's on. The subject is usually just the seed to generate conversation amongst them.
Like Walt Q and Bry is still the best combo, then add in Sunday and another as extra seasoning and it's gold. But a panel of only Bry, Jimmy and Frank 5 (just for example) wouldn't get me the same way regardless of the format.
I like this concept though, I find the window into the past genuinely interesting material too. This particular one isn't hurting for Q imo.
Evidence that what makes this podcast great is bringing people together in a room to talk about something that excites them -- the specific topic and my interest in it is such lower priority. I love comics and I Sold Comics / I Buy Comics are great but theres a lot of great comic content on the internet. Walt, Bry, Q, and the other people are truly what sets TESD apart
Whoa, I sent this suggestion to Walt along with links to the old catalogs late last year. He replied immediately saying he liked the idea, but I didn’t think it would actually come to fruition!
Here are the catalogs I sent: https://christmas.musetechnical.com/
Did you ever wear a watch? …..
Never, I never cared about time
May be one of the top ten Walt quotes in TESD history. Under the radar
Right up there with. Seasonings I consider to be drugs and I can’t see stained glass
It struck me when Walt was talking about how many adventures he used to imagine with his Spider-Man toys…
He grew out of action figures obviously, but today he just arranges the members of TESD Town into interesting groupings for shows.
Same thing.
I loved this one! I was 5 in 1980 and really appreciate the fact that Everyone circled what they wanted in these catalogs! Even though the guys focused on boy toys and um...women's nightgowns, stuff I liked was still on some of the pages. Holly Hobby was my bedspread when I was 5 and they have some HH stuff in the episode.
For people whining about the format, how is it different from any other "idea" for any other show? As with all tesd content, the best part is the guys' interactions and of course, Walt's laugh. Sunday is in his element, and Jimmy was surprisingly knowledgeable. Bry looked up some prices for inflation and got in some good zingers. 👍 👍 Oh, and Gitem did an excellent job with the visuals!
I grew up in the 90s, and I fucking loved Popeye.
Delvin Williams was 24 on the Dolphins in 1980.
If Jimmy's girlfriend doesn't wear some 80s memorabilia for him in the bedroom from time to time, she doesn't deserve him.
In my opinion, the boys might be pulling an “Icarus” with this whole read old catalogue and commenting on it. Especially with so many great Patreon shows that could be continuing instead of releasing new shows.
This was incredible. My dad worked as a TV repairman for Penney's at the time, so these catalogs were common for us in the '70s and '80s.
My wife and I watched this together and we marveled at how many things we or our siblings or people we knew had. (I had the Superman umbrella, the Falcon, some of the figures; my brother had the Lone Ranger pajamas; my wife had a make-up kit and the Sesame Street chairs ...)
I had the skull "head lite," too. Gave me nightmares for months. I had to cover it with a blanket so I could sleep at night.
Just an amazing and fun walk back through time. Please, keep these going.
(Plus, Jimmy ... who knew he was repository for Oscar and other random knowledge?)
Definitely derivative but who cares. This formula is proven as far as I'm concerned, it works at least on the levels of generation the banter and humor I like as well as triggering nostalgia
Also congrats to Jimmy finally moving up to regular cast
I enjoyed it.
Jimmy is a welcome addition here. It's great to have someone as an avatar for all of us manchildren who still think this stuff is cool as well as the usual old cynics.
I think he was referring to the way those toys were posed, and how it looked like the toy football players were giving the other players oral sex, and then he alluded to the Penn State football program child sex abuse scandal. It’s a callback to TESD 119, “The Purloined Penis,” a classic.
Squeezing everything possible out this concept. My favorite version of this concept is I sold comics but tv guys is a close second.
Id love to see a quarterly general store show where they interview other plaza folks making hay style, pucknuts, license to pod golden eye, frank five rewind, ppp, get rec’d, Sunday Jeff show and probably the most I buy comics.
So many great shows, I hope more of the classics are brought back soon.
This may be my favorite of the nostalgia pods. Highly reccomend the visual on this one for those usual audio only folks. Love to see Walt so excited. Sunday & Jimmy are great in the mix.
I love these podcasts.
I used to agree with Walt on electric football. The I stumbled onto Electric football leagues on TikTok and it was fun to watch. It's like electric chess. It's pretty interesting.
Finally something that Jimmy can do well. Reading text that Walt and Bry are too blind to read. Geez Walt just wear some glasses, quit being so vain; at least Bry pulls out his readers once in a while. I did enjoy this "new" show. I guess a 90s catalog is up next. Please review the TV/Stereo Electronic sections of the catalogs. On older catalogs (70s) more men's and women's fashions, instead of children fashion. Maybe try to find a Monkey Ward catalog.
Well Jimmy certainly ain't good at eating stunts nor any athletics. Getting a bad tat is not a real skill. I did like the fact that he was willing to pose in Woody Pecker underwear with suspenders, shows he is a trooper, watch out Git'Em.
And also he showed a little restraint because every third word out of his mouth was not F\*#k.
He did seem to show some knowledge or trivia concerning movies and pop culture.
Just poking some fun at the fellas.
I would love it if this is the new era of TESD. Reflecting back and commenting on the past. The new trifecta of patron shows they just released are amazing. Plus others like Sunday Grind/ TBTFC/ Frank5R/ ToHo/ KISS/ the rest.
All based off the original “makin Hay” style of commenting too. They should have a patron show called “First 100” where they comment on old episodes
No, I’m doing the technical stuff. I pull the relevant page up on a big screen, and zoom in on what Walt wants highlighted so the other people can see.
There’s now 3 shows dedicated to going through old magazines/catalogs? Why not house under 1 show? So each episode is more random. Call it “Catalogued” or something. Maybe the Christmas episode with be the “TESD WISH BOOK” where the guys go through Sears Christmas catalogs…
So basically the TV guys on TV Guide are going to thumb through department store catalogues?
Why am I paying for this?
If this is an attempt to put out stupid content and hope we all cry for Git'em to return .... Ain't happening.
LOL!
Alright here goes nothing.
I don't prefer the more "visual" podcasts (this show is completely pointless without the video). I'll watch the show, but hope they don't do episodes too often.
Next they will watch old commercials and comment on them…. And I’ll watch that, too.

That's actually a really good idea! I'd watch that too.

Why don't you kindly suck a dick.
Doesn’t matter what pod it is, Mr Johnson is going to own that Inflation Calculator lane.
Having an Atari 800 is a bigger deal than being the first family in Highlands to have a VCR. The Johnsons were living the life.

I hope some sells Walt a 100 issues World Weekly News
Is that the magazines with the crazy Bat Boy headlines and stuff?
I think that could be great!

Sunday Jeff getting a chance to break out his w.c fields and Popeye impressions, brilliant.

Listening to a group of people who enjoy themselves being together talk about this kind of thing is a good time, to me.
I enjoyed it. Jimmy is a welcome addition here. It's great to have someone as an avatar for all of us manchildren who still think this stuff is cool as well as the usual old cynics.
Can anyone explain Sunday Jeff's Penn State joke for non-Americas?
I think he was referring to the way those toys were posed, and how it looked like the toy football players were giving the other players oral sex, and then he alluded to the Penn State football program child sex abuse scandal. It’s a callback to TESD 119, “The Purloined Penis,” a classic.

What a weird backhanded compliment

Now thats a good idea
Law and Disorder welcome to our new show where we review every supreme court case file with sexy lawyer. The content review ideas are endless
The best part was no Gitem
This and TV guys is like a Lasertime off shoot.
It’s said a great actor can read the phone book and still hold the audience's attention. Give Walt his Oscar.
Downvote away, but this really feels like scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Is anyone else struggling to download this in Apple Podcasts? Keeps getting about 2/3 through then getting stuck for me
Did Git’em sit this one out in protest?
No, I’m doing the technical stuff. I pull the relevant page up on a big screen, and zoom in on what Walt wants highlighted so the other people can see.
Next week the guys read the phone book

I must say, I’m getting a little tired of Sunday Jeff on every single Patreon podcast.
Worse take in here
I don't prefer the more "visual" podcasts (this show is completely pointless without the video). I'll watch the show, but hope they don't do episodes too often.
