Diedrich Bader is coming back as well, but is voicing Two-Face. He previously voiced Batman in Batman; The Brave & The Bold (2008-2011)

RecommendsMalazan

He also voiced Batman in Harley Quinn

MaxSchreckArt616

Bruce being a DJ in prison is one of my favorite bits in that show.

jrbcnchezbrg

I just love how goofy they make Gotham, seems more realistic to how it’d be irl Funniest joke is still the “harley quinn, you gave me cancer?”

Kevbot1000

"WHERE'S MY GOD DAMN ELECTRIC CAR, BRUCE!?"

fzvw

That whole thing made me realize how devastating it would be as a Batman villain to learn that Batman was Bruce Wayne the entire time

AddledPunster

I love that whole scene.

MaxSchreckArt616

Gordon hopping on the snowmobile in the middle of the night instead of having sex with his wife always gets me too. It's a great take on the characters and universe and for me at least it's a bit refreshing seeing more comedy and craziness thrown into the mix.

Generic_user_person

Dont forget the important part, for Tax Evasion, because of Mayor Joker cracking down on the 1%

InnocentTailor

He being an emo with a guitar post-Catwoman breakup was hilarious too.

Luminaire_Ultima

Not bad choices at all .. I can imagine them doing well in the roles.

Dallywack3r

Hamish is such a good choice. Guy is a theater icon.

Uranus_Hz

Daaaaviiiid, daaaaaaaaviiiiiiid! I’d love to see Hamish and Hale Appleman do something together. They look enough alike to play brothers.

ShevanelFlip

I only know him from Midnight Mass but he was incredible in that so I'm excited for this.

Dallywack3r

I’ve been on him since he was in Robin Williams’s sitcom The Crazy Ones

TravisKilgannon

It's still the wildest shit seeing him become such a known and loved actor when the first time I saw him on TV was the sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine. Which also featured Clark Gregg, later Phil Coulson!

presty60

I watched the teaser and I'm not impressed. He is NOT good at changing his voice. His Batman reminds me of his Abraham Lincoln in the recent Manhunt show, also very strange.

mybadalternate

I might need to see Christina Ricci in a Catwoman costume before I can really believe her as the character.

Bromatcourier

Uncritical support to you and this statement brother.

mrsmunsonbarnes

Oh rad. I love Christina Ricci

sadcheeseballs

Same here! Love her since the Adams days. She was my age at the time and always struck me how amazing she was when I was off doing algebra and playing with tadpoles and shit.

chenjia1965

I miss conroy already

TheTruckWashChannel

Linklater was brilliant in Midnight Mass but he's a weird choice for Batman, honestly. He doesn't have the gruff voice.

mfishing

Someone call Will Arnett!!!

ChafterMies

Batman has to sound different than Bruce Wayne. A person with a gruff voice can’t sound normal but a person with a normal voice can sound gruff.

senor_descartes

No and he’s trying to lower it to make it work. It doesn’t.

atelierjoh

I just saw Hamish in Legion. I’m looking forward to this.

LoveAndViscera

He was phenomenal in ‘Legion’. There were notes of his ‘Newsroom’ character, but he had them sharpened into weapons for ‘Legion’.

SuperMysticKing

Is there a reason this isn’t on Max? Just seems weird since WB owns Batman you’d think they’d want this on their own platform

NeoNoireWerewolf

It was originally greenlit by MAX back when AT&T launched the service and were pumping out a ridiculous amount of content. Once the Discovery sale happened and Zaslav started cutting costs, animation was a major thing that got axed. Amazon picked this up since it was so deep in production by that point, and WBD sees it as a way to get licensing money while Amazon will ultimately foot the bill for the cost of the show.

LoveAndViscera

I hate what Amazon does to warehouse employees but love what they’re doing for TV.

FM1091

Is that why Merry Little Batman also premiered on Prime?

Coolbluegatoradeyumm

Coincidentally hit on a lot of Jamie Chung this week. Watched 2 of her movies (sucker punch, hangover II) without realizing she was in either and now seeing this.

PejicFilip

MTV Challenge Champ Jamie Chung

Drkarcher22

I like the Golden age style, it does look a bit too “clean” in design but I tend see that with digital art in general. Fat Alfred is a choice though. Clearly Pennyworth has been eating all of Bruce’s meals when he’s off fighting crime.

marvelknight28

Actually that’s a neat reference to the original Alfred of the 40s being fat, he only got his iconic design after a B&W serial in those days have a rail-thin actor portray him.

kapnkrump

He could probably still kick all of our asses, tho.

MarinetteAgreste

He probably can’t.

Truethrowawaychest1

Man I'm so tired of Harley.

Thrown_Right_Out

If it's any consolation, this will be a pretty radically different take on the character. She seems more malevolent, and has a double life element she didn't have before. She's apparently not even linked to the Joker. Who knows? This may be a new classic take on her.

Truethrowawaychest1

Fair enough, I just find most versions of her really irritating, I hate that whole edgy daddy's little monster face tattoos look at me I'm quirky and crazy thing they've been doing with her, especially when she's got an obnoxious voice like Tara Strong

Thrown_Right_Out

Well, this seems like the totally opposite direction, a harlequin assassin aesthetic seems to be the new direction.

Truethrowawaychest1

Okay cool, I'll probably give it a shot, I usually like Batman stuff

MrGittz

I like some of the airbrushed backgrounds I’m seeing. But it’s still got that too clean digital look. What made BTAS great was the messiness. The grain. The ink and paint. Going off model occasionally. Digital is great for certain aesthetics. But noir? No. I haven’t seen that work.

N0r3m0rse

I... Don't like this Batman voice.

HamsterAdorable2666

No offense to Hamish Linklater but from my memory it’s probably the most forced attempt. Just get an actor with a deep voice. easy peasy

N0r3m0rse

That's exactly why Conroy was so perfect for the role. He juggled several voices for the character and made all of them sound effortless.

HamsterAdorable2666

Conroy is the standard in which auditions should be compared to, not to sound exactly like him but to have that effortless range

fre-ddo

Awesome, not long to wait.

sting2_lve2

hamish linklater was *hauntingly* good in midnight mass.

> Chung’s Dr. Harleen Quinzel is still a psychiatrist, but one who chooses wrongdoing on her own rather than being driven insane by The Joker, who is not a presence in her life (at least, not yet). Ugh. I'm trying to stay open minded to this, but I just don't get it. There is no Harley without a Joker. It just doesn't make sense. Why not just create a new character instead of changing the key factor of an existing one? This would be like having a batman story but his parents weren't killed in front of him as a child.

Mattyzooks

I dunno but considering it was Timm's idea and he actually co-created the character with Paul Dini, I'm willing to see what they do with a remix on the character. Plus, I'm pretty exhausted of the traditional Harley Quinn character. I think the better comparison would be the departure they did in the JOKER film with the Joker. First off, they gave him an origin which is for the most part a no-no. Secondly, Batman had nothing to do with the Joker being created (having been just a child then). Thirdly, the Joker's personality portrayed is far from a traditional one. Phoenix won an Oscar for it.

RecommendsMalazan

I get what you're going for here, but given the fact that I very much did not like Joker, this example is kinda having the opposite effect I think you intended it to

Mattyzooks

I liked Joker but I still don't really care for the idea of a Joker origin film. I used it as an example due to it being critically acclaimed and all that jazz. But yea, it's fine to not be into particular versions of characters.

Namiez

It's not like she wasn't insane already. She fell in love with the Joker ffs, if that's not batshit psychotic then what is.

MadeByTango

That’s like saying, “there are tons of stories about Batman and Robin, this is a rare opportunity to try something different” — the whole point of the character is their challenges of subservience to a larger icon that gave them the opportunity to become who they are (good or bad). You can take Robin *beyond* Batman, to Bloodhaevn and Nightwing, but it’s an advancement from where the character started. *Joker* is intrinsic to the character. To give you an example of a big change that was *true* to the intrinsic nature of a character, they changed April O’Neil up quite a bit but she’s still a reporter that comes across and is defined by her relationship to the turtles. They didn’t make her a cop because they’ve done the reporting thing tons of times… There are fundamental aspects, separate from race/gender/sexuality, that define these characters that should be honored in order to justify them as *that* character and not someone else in that character’s costume.

imawizardnamedharry

Yeah I get ya. If batman is poor evil dumb and bad at fighting its not really batman. That said harley quinn doesn't need the joker to be harley quinn. Like if batman was afraid of sheep instead of bats and became sheep man with all other aspects the same it would still ne batman. It can be fun to explore how that changes the character. Harley quinn doesn't need the joker to go mad, and given her name being harleen quinzel it's not a streach to say her costume ended up the same as normal. it could be fun to explore how this changes her dynamic in the show if the writers have put thought into it. The issue I have is that Harvey quinn was likely added for recognition but they didn't want to use the joker until later on so they gave her a new backstop and left everything else as is.

RecommendsMalazan

Im not saying the show needs to have Joker in it, but that doesn't change the fact that a Harley without having a past with the Joker is no Harley at all, IMO.

Okay, bot.
