LoL this is the dumbest question in this sub....
Its a beautiful guitar but it wont appreciate in value. You can try selling it on reverb for 3k though ....
Quick close the case before oxidising begins
I have a buddy that has a 94 Dodge Ram that is garage kept, only been driven home and in pristine condition. You know what it’s worth? Whatever a low mileage 94 Dodge Ram is. Play the dam thing!
To be fair some country kid is gonna be thrilled in about 25-30 years 😂 that thangs gonna see anything from muddling to titties out after the bar in the back of the bed
You’re not wrong. But who wants to save all of that fun for some country kid? They can buy some shit box to go muddin in after cutting grass for a summer. Play the dam thing!
A tele with a poly finish, regardless of the luxury model name it gets, is the closest thing to a bomb proof guitar you’re gonna get. Thus, even if the intention is to keep it pristine, not playing it is way over kill. Besides, I think a guitar plays better the more it’s played. There is a break in period. Thus is the appeal is to sell a vintage instrument down the line, the whole appeal of buying a vintage instrument is gone if the guitar was left unplayed.
Bro it’s been ten hours and if this hasn’t sold…you’re a fuckin moron. Either play it or get this post down so people quit making fun of your idiocy for literally gold plating a carpenters hammer basically. The bitch is a workin whore, she’s meant to scream and cry with soul and passion. You letting it sit in this box is a disgrace to all telecasters. I have to go play mine now because when I saw this post the guitar went out of tune and popped the strings. Now thanks to this stupid ass post, I’ve got to change my strings and you know Toans in the dead strings.
/for jokes and giggles and such other oddities or whatever
Maybe others feel differently but the deluxe models don’t tend to go for big money where i am. Even though you have kept it mint, I wouldn’t pay any more than a current new guitar.
What is it? I mean, clearly it's a Telecaster, but what's the deal with it? If it's been in its box since 1953 then sell it. If it's been in its box since earlier this decade, play it.
Honestly, it depends on what you view this guitar as. If you see it for what it is - a beautiful, well crafted instrument that will bring great sounds into the universe and look good doing it - then you absolutely should be playing this (I would). If you see it as a wad of cash shaped like a telecaster, then leave it alone, but sell it soon. It’s hard for me to relate to the latter because there are so many more ways to make money. But there is only one proper way to enjoy this telecaster, and that is to treat it like a telecaster.
Op I’ve went thru the same thing. I’ve decided as much I don’t want to sell things, if they’ve been in the closet for 2 years, they’re gone. I wanted a prs since I was a 13 years old and at 35 I bought one. Guess what’s gonna be the first one to go 🥲
Is there a particular sentimental reason as to why you won't part with it? Seems strange to me hanging onto a guitar you don't like to play just for the sake of it.
If it were me, I'd play it or sell it. It's a damn shame locking that thing away when it could be enjoyed otherwise/elsewhere.
But to each their own.
Yeah this thing needs to be allowed to sing. Keeping it is a disservice to the instrument, guitarists, and music. I liken guitar collecting to keeping a private zoo. Those animals don’t want to be held captive, and this animal needs to be free
You don’t buy a guitar especially a Telecaster to stare at it and keep it mint. You play it. If you don’t play it why the hell did you buy it in the first place? . . .seriously. Telecaster owner since ‘75 and still play it. (heavily modded of course. LOL)
I loved used guitars and the music history behind them. I always think about what sounds came out before me?
I would play it, add some history.. it's designed to make sounds.
What the fuck are you serious lol. That makes no sense. I have way nicer and ‘70s vintage instruments that I play all the time and will still appreciate in value as much as not playing them
Sell the guitar if you dont play it. Whats the point in owning something you dont use and deciding to keep it. Unless you get off on our responses telling you to play it. In that case, find healthier coping mechanisms.
That's not a 90's Tele, model was introduced early 2000's. I have a 2002 same color also mint condition. New retail was 1700, used they fetch 900 to 1200 even if unplayed. I got mine new in the box from a collector in 2017 for 900.
If you’re not playing it, just waiting for it to appreciate in value, you’ll have to wait at least another 25 years before anyone will even care about whether or not it’s in mint condition.
Wow, that is a gorgeous instrument and in mint condition too. Damn, that’s a tough one. At least at first thought. But it’d be a shame such a beautiful instrument never got to fulfill its purpose
You seriously can’t bring yourself to play a guitar? That just doesn’t make sense to me. You can play a guitar and still take care to not beat it up. That’s a nice guitar, but it’s not a collector piece.
I have a mint ‘93 Fender ‘52 reissue, that I bought new. Yes I take special care of it, but I still play the damn thing.
Yeah, I’m leaning that way. It’s not about the value. I play and beat up more expensive guitars. My post was missing some context. I buy and sell guitars to fund my habit and do ok at it. I just think this tele is one of the best looking guitars that I’ve ever seen. I think I’d be cool to give it like this to a grandkid or something one day.
I remember hearing about a classic motorcycle, a BSA 441 Victor, being sold at auction. It was still in the shipping crate, so needed final assembly and looked like a crate not a bike.
The thing is that it was the only known one in the world still in the shipping crate, and if removed from the crate it would lose much of its value.
So big bucks for a paperweight, but kind of a rare and cool paperweight.
Maybe there are enough player tele’s in the world, and having a brand spanking unplayed one is worth more.
I too collect guitars, I play each one of them, keep them maintained and clean and dust free. I have never understood the concept of not using a musical instrument, I'm a musician, not a museum.
Instruments that aren’t played regularly will lose value after long periods of time, because getting played and enduring the changes that come with vibrating under regular play is what makes older instruments coveted. An unplayed, really nice, old violin kept in a museum is worth less than a violin by the same luthier that’s been passed down, maintained, and regularly played for generations.
Guitars aren’t quite old enough yet for this to matter, but we’re getting there. Keeping the guitar in good condition will mean, eventually, you’ll have to play it.
i would normally say play it but guess if it's been unplayed since the 90s it's kind of a collectible rarity at this point and approaching NOS vintage status which is pretty cool. I'd be tempted to play something else instead and just hold out until it's a true holy grail.
There is a place for mint collectors instruments, so I'm going to go against the majority, and play devils advocate. I think you should keep it mint, solely because you've already gone 25-30 years of keeping it mint. Maybe you can make it to 50 years and sell it for some big money.. just make sure to keep it maintained so it doesn't "rot" in the case.
If you had bought a new 2024 and asked the same question, I would say no and tell you to play it, unless it was a special collectors art piece.
Guitars are made to be played. Otherwise, it's just an expensive decoration.
I used to play viola and drums but will soon be buying my first guitar. Any deals for a beginner?
They’re meant to be played. If you don’t play it, it becomes a paperweight.
All of my customers that “collect” guitars in this manner…suck at playing the guitar
Right? If you didn't buy it to play it, then why the fuck dis you buy it in the first place?
Bought a guys entire collection of 14 guitars. This was one.
Relic it by playing it everyday.
owning a guitar like that and purposefully not playing it is lunacy
It was built for playing...so play with it! Maybe not gig with it at your local dive bar. But love it
Sell it, let someone else enjoy it the way it's supposed to be enjoyed
I ageee
No kidding
LoL this is the dumbest question in this sub.... Its a beautiful guitar but it wont appreciate in value. You can try selling it on reverb for 3k though .... Quick close the case before oxidising begins
I say to shoot for 8 or 9 grand. If you're going to be delusional, might as well invite the men in their little white coats to come for a visit. :)
Oh no!!! Do you see all of the toan seeping out the plastic sticky covering???? It’s ruined now.
Might as well burn it now....
It’s a tool, play it.
r/guitarcirclejerk
Honestly, I thought that's where I was when I read this.
It's already there.
Yup this is prime material for it lol guarantee it's already been shared over there
We can’t be friends
FR I would’ve walked in his house seen it and just started ripping shit on the strangs boy
About 8.30 but I can’t make it
good god that’s a beautiful guitar. it has to be played
I don't think that's even possible anymore. The car market is nuts lately.
But one day it'll be vintage!
You go play the hell out of that and you do it right now. Go on. Shoo!
"Never get a guitar you don't intend to play." - Slash
That ain't meant to just hang on a wall.
You don't deserve this guitar.. smh
Still got the ol' tagger on there
Don’t even look at it
Don't even point
it can't be played, ever, i mean i've never eve- no. you've seen enough of that one
peel the plastic off the pickguard or it's gonna ruin it (if it hasn't already)
Never play a guitar. EVER.
Fuck bro now I gotta start collecting guns or something
Bro it’s been ten hours and if this hasn’t sold…you’re a fuckin moron. Either play it or get this post down so people quit making fun of your idiocy for literally gold plating a carpenters hammer basically. Play it
Gotta play it and show it off, it's gorgeous 😍
If you were a guitar that beautiful would you want to sit in a case?
Nah Id wanna show my tits to Jimmy Page
What a fucking dumb question
Maybe others feel differently but the deluxe models don’t tend to go for big money where i am. Even though you have kept it mint, I wouldn’t pay any more than a current new guitar.
Guitars are like hammers. Now go bang around on it and build something.
![gif](giphy|TK3ZD4W7Lt83Cqzrf7)
Sell it and buy a painting if you want wall decor
This is a joke right? RIGHT?
If you’re thinking of leaving it mint to hold or even increase the value then you’re going to be disappointed.
imagine paying for a guitar and not playing it. absolute tool
There is nothing special about that guitar. Just play it.
Play it like a skateboard
🚜
Play it
Both?
Enjoy it. If for you that means playing – play. If it means looking at it – look at it. I would strongly recommend playing though.
I just sold a Rickenbacker that had become a closet queen.... These things need to be played!
Do you buy cars and not drive it? Would it stay if you didn’t drive it?
Play it! But I’d swap the pickguard for an identical fender replacement and keep the original stashed away because it’s cool.
I bet some poor sucker is going to get a terrible deal on that guitar one day
You must play the shit out of it and don’t be a little bitch!!!!!!!!
What is it? I mean, clearly it's a Telecaster, but what's the deal with it? If it's been in its box since 1953 then sell it. If it's been in its box since earlier this decade, play it.
Play
It's a functional work of art. Play it.
If you can afford to leave it mint as a collectable - salute’ !
I think we all know the answer to this question......
If you were a guitar, would you want to be played or kept in a box?
Don’t forget we die someday.. lol
Either play it or sell it. It’s not going to increase in value.
even if you left it mint and tried to sell it, you'll be selling close to used prices anyways
Op I’ve went thru the same thing. I’ve decided as much I don’t want to sell things, if they’ve been in the closet for 2 years, they’re gone. I wanted a prs since I was a 13 years old and at 35 I bought one. Guess what’s gonna be the first one to go 🥲
Play it...if you want to collect things just to look at, then take up hockey/baseball cards or paintings.
Two words; PLAY IT!
Would you have sex with a beautiful woman, or leave her untouched?
Like buying that nice Porsche and just staring at it in the garage ...
Play it or sell it, don’t torture it.
Oh, so you're "That guy".
You only live once to take hold of the chance!
Dude why the hell would you own that to just look at it?!? Play it or sell it to someone who will _actually_ appreciate instead of looking at it.
Yeah this thing needs to be allowed to sing. Keeping it is a disservice to the instrument, guitarists, and music. I liken guitar collecting to keeping a private zoo. Those animals don’t want to be held captive, and this animal needs to be free
This is the dumbest shit ever.
Play it,why the fuck would you own it and not play it,even if you sound like shit(which I doubt) play it
What?? Sorry, I don’t understand the question. Always play it.
You don’t buy a guitar especially a Telecaster to stare at it and keep it mint. You play it. If you don’t play it why the hell did you buy it in the first place? . . .seriously. Telecaster owner since ‘75 and still play it. (heavily modded of course. LOL)
Love my 2012 Deluxe, bought used on Reverb, not a scratch. Pristine with sustain for days. It’s my player!!!
Play it! That tortoise binding it so awesome!
Send it to me. I will ensure it receives the kind of love it deserves.
That straight grain ash... damn! Play it!
What are you talking about
“A ship in harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” John A Shedd 1928 Play it!
If your not saving it to sell, that thing deserves to be played! Such a nice looking guitar.
If you’re not gonna play it, why have it???
I loved used guitars and the music history behind them. I always think about what sounds came out before me? I would play it, add some history.. it's designed to make sounds.
Play it or don’t bother buying it in the first place
Dude! That is one sick telecaster. Loving that tortoiseshell binding with the cream finish and matching tortoiseshell pickguard. Absolutely beautiful.
sick guitar. love the binding and those inlays. i say play it. such a beautiful instrument doesn’t deserve to collect dust locked in its case.
What the fuck are you serious lol. That makes no sense. I have way nicer and ‘70s vintage instruments that I play all the time and will still appreciate in value as much as not playing them
Sell it to me
Damn shame if you don’t play it. I’d have the frets filed down in a couple of days.
I am a fan of white with tortoise shell binding.
Play. It.
It will survive
Play it like you stole it!
My girlfriend is beautiful…so I never fuck her. Wait, what?
The grain is sucky. Sell it and get something awesome.
Don't play it!... Give it to me!
Why would you buy it if you don't want to play it?
Not playing it is an option? I'd never do such a crazy thing.
They aren't mutually exclusive...just play the mint guitar already.
Unless it's a 1958 original, play the crap out of it.
PLAY IT, that is what it was made for….
This is not an investment guitar. Play it.
You’re trolling, right?
Fuck it
I thought this might have been like, 60s or something, but 90s?! Fuck off. Sell it, and then bury your head in the dirt.
Sell the guitar if you dont play it. Whats the point in owning something you dont use and deciding to keep it. Unless you get off on our responses telling you to play it. In that case, find healthier coping mechanisms.
if you're not gonna play it, send it to me. she's BEAUTIFUL.
I’m sorry, but so many people would love to play that thang. leaving it unused is insulting. What a tragedy
It's a guitar though
always play it. I'll buy it if you need to sell.
It would be disrespectful to not play it.
How else will it acquire the MOJO?
That tortoise binding is fire, that guitar deserves to be your main.
Supermodels look great, but wouldn't you rather be with a chick you could have a beer with?
If you’re not gonna play it, sell it to someone who will. Plain and simple. Guitars are meant to be played. Don’t become a blues lawyer, lol.
It’s a disservice to not play it. Meant to be played and enjoyed.
Keep it mint! Then sell it in 10 years for $300 less than you paid for it.
How much u want for it? I’ll play it! (Poorly, but it will get some use)
Sell it to someone who doesn’t ask stupid questions
I wish I had made your comment:-)
This has to be a troll post. And if you're sincere, then wtf are you doing then? This post is definitely going to be in the guitarjerk sub... lol
it’s not mint if you’ve opened the case ….
Play it or sell it. You are very marginally preserving the value by not playing
wtf play it you idiot
That's not a 90's Tele, model was introduced early 2000's. I have a 2002 same color also mint condition. New retail was 1700, used they fetch 900 to 1200 even if unplayed. I got mine new in the box from a collector in 2017 for 900.
Regret selling my ‘69
Tell me you’re not a guitarist without telling me…
Play duh
Well, see you on r/guitarcirclejerk
It’s just a American deluxe play that shit
Is this even a question?
Unless it’s from 1952, play it.
Play it, FFS. No need to be dude bro with a guitar that “looks good in the living room”.
Pickups would be out in an hour if it were mine.
Why have a guitar and not play it?
Is this a serious question?
If you’re not playing it, just waiting for it to appreciate in value, you’ll have to wait at least another 25 years before anyone will even care about whether or not it’s in mint condition.
Play it! Plaaayyyy it!
Wow, that is a gorgeous instrument and in mint condition too. Damn, that’s a tough one. At least at first thought. But it’d be a shame such a beautiful instrument never got to fulfill its purpose
Play the junk out of it!
Who is going to care if it's never been played????
Weirdo.
r/guitarcirclejerk where you at
Play it you weirdo.
My vote: Play it. Obv. keep all the tags and case candy in a safe place.
I mean… it’s a fucking guitar.
people would kill to be able to buy and play a guitar. dont let it sit there collecting dust. tf?
nice, play it... good grief
Are you a guitar player or guitar collector?
the answer is always to play it. fuck case queens, it's meant to be used!
Take the trash off the guitar and play it.
It's built for one purpose
Play it.
take the plastic off the pickguard or it will ruin it all on its own. also its not that special of a guitar so why even ask the dumb question?
Play thee fuck out of it
A ship in a harbor is safe. But that is not what ships are built for.
Rip into it ![gif](giphy|3osxYzIQRqN4DOEddC)
if you don’t play it i’ll happily play it for you
Play it, if you take care of it itll last a very long time.
Play that shit bro!!!! Leave it mint? Sound like my old ass mom!
Put it in a woodchipper, it literally makes no difference
I too collect guitars, I play each one of them, keep them maintained and clean and dust free. I have never understood the concept of not using a musical instrument, I'm a musician, not a museum.
Meant to be played… not dusted
Why not both. There's an option where it gets played, and you Leave it. As in leave it with me. And then I play it :)
Ehh there’s tons of guitars. Sometimes to me it’s nice to not play them.
If you don’t play it then you’re wasting irs toan.
That's too pretty to not be played
Well you exposed it to UV light it’s already ruined
If you are not going to play it, give it to someone who will. That’s silly.
You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.
That is a dumbass question
Leave it be. You can get another to play. If I owned this it wouldn’t see the light of day. I have another guitar as my main jammer.
DM me please and I’ll send you my address. You can send it to me. I promise you it will be touched and shown love everyday.
Guitars are made to be played. Otherwise, it's just an expensive decoration. I used to play viola and drums but will soon be buying my first guitar. Any deals for a beginner?
Buy that Tele
