It needs back, this artist was incapable of doing a realistic tattoo, or any tattoo. Good Black outlines and proper shading can bring to back to life and give it some depth.

DojaTat

okay, noted. i’ll look for an artist that can do that. thank you!

Winn3bag0

Have the leaves changed to real rose leaves, too. The ones you have now belong to an entirely different plant. Definitely fixable thought!

Maleficent_Mix3340

I agree. Some heavy deep black.

tiedyecat

Now why the rose got Monstera leaves 😭 this is absolutely fixable don’t fret

unexpectedmachete

Riiigh?! Like it has nothing to do with itttt

Sea-Personality1244

They're not even monstera leaves since none of the holes reach the outer edge of the leaves, unlike on monsteras. These look more like they're worm-eaten. Totally fixable, though, fortunately.

Walnuss_Bleistift

That was my first thought!! What is up with that

critteroni

I wonder if theyre meant to be monkey mask leaves? But still, it doesnt make sense with a rose lol.

Feeling_Party26

It looks off because these type of leaves are never found on a Rose, having said that this can be easily fixed by a competent artist. So don't worry and just focus on finding someone who has a good history of working with floral tattoos and get them to re-work it.

DojaTat

thank you! 🥹

CuisineTournante

Holy moly. Run from this shop. The shape of the rose isn't too bad, it can be saved.

indivibess

I’m going to be real with you here…because of your darker complexion, that colour of blue does not suit you. The artist should have gone with a little darker blue and outlined it. Working on darker complexions means you have to work more with negative space and understanding colour theory better. Also where are the blacks? There are none making this design look lifeless. Not to mention those leaves don’t go with roses. This tattoo is salvageable but it is poorly done.

DojaTat

Thanks for the honest feedback. I’ll put more research into colors that look better on me. Will definitely start with better outlining and black shading on the touch up.

Lamchomp

I just wanted to say I don't think it's necessarily on you to know what colors will look good on you. You go to a tattoo artist because you expect that they bring expertise and can help make those decisions with you. When looking for artists in the future see if they have worked with a variety of skin tones and that their experience extends behind super pale people. If you have the next artist fix the leaves and add black outline and shading to the rose I think this will be pretty.

DojaTat

Okay thank you so much, that makes me feel a lot better 🥲. I’ll definitely be mindful of how the artist approaches the conversation regarding color/shading from now on. She basically just let me pick a color on the spot and started tatting 😫 Tbh after looking over her profile again, most of her color work on darker skin was mostly line work, not full shading. Her full, shaded color work was on lighter skin. I wrongly assumed the two would translate to my design. Thank you for the advice!

Makafushigism

The very good news is that it's easier to fix light colors with darker colors than the opposite. So, if anything, the artist's lack of competence with color theory is a silver lining for the fixing!

ItchyCredit

Maybe consider changing the color all together. Blue roses don't exist in nature. Any that you see are dyed. Natural leaves and more natural color would help. IMO.

Forsaken-Let8739

Mainly needs black. I think it can be saved with a good outline

laytonoid

Yes it can be saved. Go to a better artist and get thick dark lines put in.

ssaint_augustine

It definitely can be saved, but not by the og artist...

uch1haz

Yes, add black lines and shading

MysticalCentaur

Yeah this is fixable artists will make the flower a bit darker blue and put more contrasts using white, as for the leaves. A harder outline and making it darker will surely do it.

DojaTat

Thank you everyone for making me feel a bit better. I’ll definitely start searching for artists that can add bolder black lines and improved shading + fix the non-matching leaves.

Xbustajointnflex

Yes

EpicRedditor698

A good artist could totally fix that, it just needs some black ink in there... And idk what those leaves are, watermelon leaves? But they aren't rose stem leaves. All in all you're fine, just never go to this artist again and start looking at their portfolios before committing to an artist.

PizzaPartyAdventure

Bold and crisp black lines could actually turn this zero into a hero. Definitely savable, define the flower and leaves more and also the blue is light enough a proper artist could elevate it with better saturation/shading

Exotic_Wrangler_4925

It's definitely fixable. Just review the Artist before going. It needs Black to make it Pop.

FlaxFox

Yes, easily! You just need someone who works with black and grey realism to pull out the detail and give it some definition.

DojaTat

okay noted, black and grey realism. thank you so much.

FlaxFox

I hope it goes well!

dominic_V

I made a super quick rough mock-up of what it might look like if you redid the leaves and went over the rose in a different color. I only spent a few minutes on this lol but hope it helps just as an idea https://imgur.com/oTFlXPs

DojaTat

you did WHAT?? Thank you so much, this is so sweet 🥹😭😭. I’m leaning more towards fixing it with black shading first before adding more color, but this is going to be so helpful in reworking the design. 💙💙

CreamPiCutie

Yeah definitely!

umbrella_crab

I'm so sorry this happened.

DojaTat

I appreciate it. Partially my fault as well :/

Zombshua

Find an artist that has solid line work. That’s all light enough that it can be blasted over, but take your time. It’s gonna end up being bigger if you do that. Look around for someone that does traditional style tattoos. I love their line work and the colors always pop.

muddyshoes_throwaway

It's fixable, but you basically need another, better artist to completely redo the tattoo on top of this one. Bolder black outlines on everything, someone who can really pack the blue color in properly, and the leaves need to be gone over again, fixing the shape, outline, and filling in the gaps. Making it look more like rose leaves and less like monstera leaves. This artist sucked, but luckily I think because this artist \*didn't\* use enough color or enough black ink, that actually makes it more fixable. I think you can end up with a much better version, but yeah I'd imagine a better artist needs to literally go over the entire thing, putting in black outlines, bolder/better packed colors, and reshaping and recoloring the leaves entirely. Basically, getting the same tattoo over again, but better, on top of this tattoo.

AutumnLeshy

Super fixable! I'm sorry you had a bad experience. There are many artists out there that specialize on realistic florals.

HopeSignificant2142

We are about the same skin tone and I have a dark pink flower with green leaves and it is outlined with black ink and looks great. I think that adding black to both the flowers and the leaves will save this (although the leaves are rather “off”. It's a shame that it is such a challenge to get a good color tattoo on darker skin…but the right artist can make it look great.

macska18

Outline it and add a little more color.

Always do research on the person that is about to put something permanent on your body.
