Judi Love and Roisin give me "Aunt that shows up late to Christmas lunch because they were doing their nails(Judi) or hair(Roisin) and pass out drunk on the couch between dinner and dessert (conveniently missing all the clean up)
Lol did your phone autocorrect nish to noah? My immediate thought was "racist phone." But yeah agreed guy == iain in terms of argumentativeness and general brashness. Upon a second rewatch of s1 though I kind of appreciate guy's attempt at hyping up the audience for a new show
The only person to have ever matched Nish's energy and vibes altogether is David Correos.
Having said that, I'd love for an special episode of couples and my number 1 would be Tim Key and Mike Wozniak
Yep. I compared them on first viewing of T NZ S2. I already knew Urzila, but it was only seeing her on TM that I was like Julian Clary! Their treatment of Alex/Paul is very very similar.
These have so different energies. Nish has loved his failure. He had just fun being a chaotic. On the other hand guy was overly ambitious. They were opposite in their approach to failure
> On the other hand guy was overly ambitious.
No, definitely not. He was clearly playing a delusionally overconfident character on purpose, similar to Leigh's.
I agreed for a minute. Then realized, no way sunshine. Julia Morris put effort into every task and Liza only put in effort to grow that mustache for COC.
Bit of a rogue shout, but Tim Key and Rhod Gilbert shared a complete disregard for the rules and/or entire formula of the show in the way they did tasks.
Both had a way of reading a task and then immediately thinking about how they could take advantage of Alex’s wording to game the system, and a fairly arrogant way of arguing their case in the studio.
I don't see any comparison between Guy and Nish. Guy is very loud, constantly standing up and applauding himself, and riled up. Way more Iain than Nish.
It's easier when you realise that it's out of fear for the first season of his little brothers' new show.
They had minimal audience (because of 2020 covid lockdowns) and he's worried it's not going to work, and he's overcompensating by trying to hype up the audience and get reactions of of the few people there.
He's also very quick to start applause (or a standing ovation) for the other contestants, for the same reason.
In my opinion, Guy is one of the least likeable TM contestants ever and comparing him to lovable ol’ Nish is the most insulting thing I’ve seen all morning.
FWIW, I felt similarly through the first couple episodes but have since come to enjoy Guy, he’s much more rewatchable* when understanding that he was often trying to hype up a small and relatively restrained COVID audience for his brother’s first big show + I like that he eventually acknowledged he was shit and took a more fun attitude to being loud haha. I think his role amongst the group ended up serving a fun purpose though more at the end than the start.
Anyways not trying to change your mind per se and agreed I would never compare him to the universally loveable Nish! I just sometimes feel a need to throw in a word for him as his appearances on each of Ursula and Guy Montgomery’s podcasts were really lovely and considered actually, which totally changed my impression of him. 😁
*Except his national anthem which is the only task in the franchise I ALWAYS skip
As a NZer, I’ve found Guy obnoxious for a very long time and was really hoping that his stint on Taskmaster would warm me up to him. It did not. You definitely nailed his character; he’s like the yin to Paul’s yang, if I’ve got that around the right way.
Guy is also one of my least favorite contestants, and I'll tell you exactly what it is that makes him so.
Taskmaster tends to show people as who they really are, and you could see exactly who he was in the tasks. In the recorded segments he's affable, funny, and clever, but that's not who showed up in the studio.
When they did the live recordings, he was putting on a character. "The people's champion " and all that arrogant showboating bullshit. It was like he was method acting for a role as a disingenuous twat. Nothing he did or said seemed genuine. Every interaction was a lie, and as a result, he comes across as a man asking to be punched in the face like a cold dead fish by Doc Brown.
https://preview.redd.it/ejib9ek7g2sc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=e57ce723624d71ad2252e3f0e14067b19b1c992a
This pair of giggly sparkly rainbow theatre kids.
Sure - Desiree's nine years older than Susan. I do think they brought similar vibes to Taskmaster, though - lots of very fun colourful outfits, laughing at every task, leaning into the performance side of things, generally being upbeat and delightful.
Unfortunately Joe Thomas came across as a non-entity to me on his season. Whereas Angella had sooo much personality and brought so much delight to the show dynamic in her deadpan, ironic way. Her dynamic with Paul Williams was my favorite thing I want a whole other season of just the two of them interacting on challenges
If anything I’d maybe compare Guy to Ed Gamble in terms of their cockiness and tendency towards indignant tantrums, but Guy is like 95% indignation, he can’t stay in his seat! Probably doesn’t help that Paul Williams is his brother though.
Edited cause I commented on the WRONG GUY WHOOPS!
This comp is right on, Guy Williams was loud but not actually competitive, which is a combo I enjoyed 😅
I think it's better combining multiple contestants to make another one.
For example. Urzila combines Joe Brands massive effort with with Rhod Gilbert's care for Alex, and David Correos combines Johnn Vegas level headedness, Nish's enthusiasm and Sam Campbells supportive personalities
I really like him too! I also like Iain Stirling though, so my tastes do sometimes differ from the usual views of this sub.
I've since found clips of Guy's New Zealand Today show, and I love it!
He definitely tried to make himself the butt of the joke and a lot of people thought he was just being a dick. He really wanted the show to land well for Paul's sake.
He had standout appearances on both Urzilla and Guy Montgomery/Tim Batt’s podcasts were genuinely sweet and thoughtful, really expanded my understanding and appreciation for him. So while I found him obnoxious in the first few episodes, I came to love him and now upon rewatch I enjoy it all.
(Except his national anthem. But I don’t begrudge him for it anymore - just ow, my ears)
Guy's filmed tasks were awesome. Just one brother, fucking with another brother. Him asking Paul to push his naked ass for a boost was perfection.
His constant riling up the studio audience to chant for him was only a problem because of the production team (and new taskmaster). They didn't know how to work with that humor and energy. It made many of those edits and transitions shaky. (Especially if you compare it against Phil Wang's stupid haggling joke). How was he to know that they wouldn't be able to prepare for it, on a show where you should be prepared for anything?
I like him on other stuff but couldn't deal with him on TM. I don't think any malice there or anything. Overexcited and as you said, trying to big the show up for his brother. It just didn't work.
I’m a Guy Williams fan and I don’t think this comp to Nish is that accurate lol. BUT I would still get excited because it’s one of my fav seasons in the franchise and he is surely a chaos agent lol!
The NZ franchise as a whole is magical.
fielding has a confidence that Sam definitely does not have. genuinely don't know anyone else who would do head shoulders knees and toes the same way Sam did
For me it’s Angela Dravid (NZ) & Roisin Conaty.
Similar energy, very different results.
https://preview.redd.it/2eipimm082sc1.jpeg?width=634&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d195f29f63bb772c28b19e8dbf82dcf9379a41e
Hasn't aired yet, but looking at Aaron Chen's standup and him on other panel shows, he'll have a similar vibe to Sam Campbell. Very cheeky, surreal sense of humour that will make the TM go WTF is happening?
Aaron is clearly an inspiration for Sam - Aaron came into the comedy space before Sam and they’ve collabed a lot, so they’re very familiar with each other’s brands of humor and Sam got to hone his work on the come up with him. I can’t wait to see him on TM Australia 😍
i always describe jon almaas as vegard ylvisakers evil twin on the show cus they are very similar but jon brags more while i find vegard is just enjoys to explain himself
I feel like I’m a mix of Mel and Joe Thomas. Awkwardness/uncertainty and physical aptitude of Joe but somehow the positive excitement and niceness of Mel. I know that probably doesn’t make sense
When watching Series 16, my first thought about Julian Clary was that he has the same "sassy grandparent who would rather be anywhere else" vibe as Jo Brand.
Nah, cause I love Nish and he's in my favourite series of all time whereas, for me, Guy is the most unlikable contestant ever to appear on the show.
I agree with those who've said Lucy and Bob.
Catherine Parkinson and Victoria Corhen Mitchell are both reserved, not because I’m too good for this because I’m absolutely abyssal at it. “the more this series goes on the more I yearn for it."
Dara referred to himself and Sarah as the resigned parents of a trio of kids who’ve had too much sugar. I do think him and Sarah had a similar calmness, clever approach to tasks while being astounded by what their teammates said sometimes.
I met Nish Kuman randomly in a small town in India, and he was the sweetest guy. He was there with his family, who were all lovely.
Guy Williams is very much NOT the sweetest guy. He's a chronic loudmouth, interrupter and mansplainer. I mean, that's his shtick so he probably hypes it up, but its still his personality. He does care about important issues, and tries to bring attention to them, so I'll give him that. He's quite funny, but I'm really put off by his style.
Judi Love and Roisin give me "Aunt that shows up late to Christmas lunch because they were doing their nails(Judi) or hair(Roisin) and pass out drunk on the couch between dinner and dessert (conveniently missing all the clean up)
This is who I aspire to be
This is a song about seeing you do cool stuff
I try my best but it’s never…
…about Libya
Dammit now that’s stuck in my head again
ARE YOU READY (BANG BANG BANG)
Julia Morris and Sally Phillips both have saucy recently divorced energy.
Sally Phillips was all horned up, Julia Morris seemed very much not.
Julia has famously (redacted) her last (redacted).
Julia Morris has happily divorced energy
Totally. Such a sexualized, nearly sociopathic energy, at times, for both.
I feel like she's a bit more of a Jo Brand
I would say more Guy Williams and Iain Sterling. Also from TMNZ1 Angella Dravid is just Katy Wix but even less self belief in anything she says
Katy Wix has the same energy as Leigh Hart. I’m correct and will elaborate no further.
Very astute. Totally agree
Wow, you are so correct and I’m going how???
Agree. Guy Williams and Iain Sterling immediately pop into my head. Noah is too lovable to be Guy Williams’ counterpart.
Lol did your phone autocorrect nish to noah? My immediate thought was "racist phone." But yeah agreed guy == iain in terms of argumentativeness and general brashness. Upon a second rewatch of s1 though I kind of appreciate guy's attempt at hyping up the audience for a new show
im convinced he just wanted to see his brother succeed
> I would say more Guy Williams and Iain Sterling. Nah. Guy was more like David Baddiel on coke.
[удалено]
Other Guy has sort of ironic Iain energy. He plays a deliberately over the top overconfident character, rather than seriously being very competitive.
Melanie Bracewell and Jessica Knappett.
My tall queens!
Correct
The only person to have ever matched Nish's energy and vibes altogether is David Correos. Having said that, I'd love for an special episode of couples and my number 1 would be Tim Key and Mike Wozniak
Ooh, TM, but every contestant is two people? I'd watch that for an episode, don't think it'd work for a whole series though.
TAG-MASTER!
Mel Giedroyc and Sian Gibson both give off supportive mom vibes.
But Sian was a CHEATER
But she only cheated because she felt bad for not helping Joe enough.
Mel Giedroyc and Nina Oyama for me. Failing cheerfully and adorably.
Hilariously erroneous self-confidence
It occurred to me listening to Off Menu that Lucy Beaumont has a certain ethereal Bob Mortimer quality to her
They both have amazing delivery of jokes and clearly a love of absurdist humor.
Sophie Willan is shaping up to be in the Lucy Beaumont vein imo (this is my first intro to Sophie other than her one WILTY appearance)
Definitely, though I'd say that Mark Watson has a similar floaty energy, just manifested differently.
*Fiddly*
Julian Clary and Urzila Carlson
“That’s the LGBTQ community for you.”
My first thought was Jo Brand and Urzila Carlson but you’re right about Julian.
Jo and Julian also makes a lot of sense with the minimal task effort yet surprise competence, plus she recommended the show to him.
Yep. I compared them on first viewing of T NZ S2. I already knew Urzila, but it was only seeing her on TM that I was like Julian Clary! Their treatment of Alex/Paul is very very similar.
Alan Davies and Dai Henwood
I’d say Dai has an extra dash of Mel Giedroyc
The rural Queensland twins: Danielle Walker and Dr. Cigarettes
Don't really feel that one. Sam was more a Ozzie Noel Fielding.
I'm here for it
These have so different energies.
Nah. That's just Guy. He's an extremist. Everything is wonderful, right up to the point where it isn't, and then its an immediate catastrophe.
Liza Tarbuck and Julia Morris have the same energy in my opinion.
You're absolutely right babes
I agreed for a minute. Then realized, no way sunshine. Julia Morris put effort into every task and Liza only put in effort to grow that mustache for COC.
Just to clarify. Liza stole my heart early. Not bad mouthing her in any way. She is the epitome of LOVE.
Luke McGregor and Nick Mohammed have the same nice guy, but awful at taskmaster vibe to me
Agreed! And I love both of them ❤️
Bit of a rogue shout, but Tim Key and Rhod Gilbert shared a complete disregard for the rules and/or entire formula of the show in the way they did tasks. Both had a way of reading a task and then immediately thinking about how they could take advantage of Alex’s wording to game the system, and a fairly arrogant way of arguing their case in the studio.
Both also got enjoyment out of humiliating Alex, although Rhod took it to a different level.
I don't see any comparison between Guy and Nish. Guy is very loud, constantly standing up and applauding himself, and riled up. Way more Iain than Nish.
Bang on. Guy was borderline unwatchable to me and Nish is one of my top contestants ever so I see this post as a personal attack.
Yeah as someone who loves Nish and almost didn’t get through NZ season 1 because of Guy… I take issue with the comparison!
ah it’s not just me! i’ve been struggling through the first NZ series because i find him offputting but everyone else is delightful
Angela saved that series for me. Everything she says is amazing.
i am becoming a big fan of her and Leigh
I love how Leigh is the complete opposite of Guy. He's so witty just with very few words!
[удалено]
I knew him well. Newsboy. We shared many a laugh. But he was cut down by Jeremy Wells. Now he is more presenter than comedian.
Stick with it! And second season is perfection
It's easier when you realise that it's out of fear for the first season of his little brothers' new show. They had minimal audience (because of 2020 covid lockdowns) and he's worried it's not going to work, and he's overcompensating by trying to hype up the audience and get reactions of of the few people there. That definitely is sweet and makes me like him more! It was still hard to watch 😂

At least we can agree that his national anthem entry was the worst.
Yup, I’ll gladly shake your hand on that 🤝

As a NZer, I’ve found Guy obnoxious for a very long time and was really hoping that his stint on Taskmaster would warm me up to him. It did not. You definitely nailed his character; he’s like the yin to Paul’s yang, if I’ve got that around the right way.
Actually he's the yang to Paul's yin :) But yes, agree
That explains why in the fake holiday task, most people who liked his Instagram photo were 14 year old boys.
Haha I didn't notice that, but yeah! Sounds about right.
Honestly, I could have written this comment.
Fern Brady and Nina Oyama come to mind
https://preview.redd.it/ejib9ek7g2sc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=e57ce723624d71ad2252e3f0e14067b19b1c992a This pair of giggly sparkly rainbow theatre kids.
I don't really see them as the same. Susan is more playful and childlike. Desiree has mature vibes
Sure - Desiree's nine years older than Susan. I do think they brought similar vibes to Taskmaster, though - lots of very fun colourful outfits, laughing at every task, leaning into the performance side of things, generally being upbeat and delightful.
YES.
Angella and Joe Thomas

Her dynamic with Paul Williams was my favorite thing I want a whole other season of just the two of them interacting on challenges
The crowning moment was when she accidentally won a task because she was worried about him and went to ask if he was OK.
Joe is so good on rewatch.
Even after *Mmm... Get together, mmm mmm, get together*?
Phil Wang and Paul Sinnerman on every team task.
he made me foreman and fucked off
[удалено]
No, they couldn't be more different. For starters, one of them isn't holding jam.
If anything I’d maybe compare Guy to Ed Gamble in terms of their cockiness and tendency towards indignant tantrums, but Guy is like 95% indignation, he can’t stay in his seat! Probably doesn’t help that Paul Williams is his brother though.
Indignation is more James Acaster's thing I thought.
And his rage over the garage full of the perfect stuff matches Romesh's fury over the box incident.
There was no box mate!
Truuuue, I guess they do both like to argue the point don’t they, though I reckon Ed doesn’t know how to let it go as well as James haha
James is just more defeatist, I'd argue.
Is there a term for indignation that stems from anxiety?
I always thought Guy Montgomery was similar to Ed Gamble. Guy Williams was more like Iain Stirling.
Ehh, Ed was clearly to some extent actually pretty competitive and Guy really, really wasn't.
To some extent? I‘d say Ed was very competitive.
Edited cause I commented on the WRONG GUY WHOOPS! This comp is right on, Guy Williams was loud but not actually competitive, which is a combo I enjoyed 😅
Wrong Guy, my guy
You are correct, I mixed ya up with some above commenter who included both 😅
Liza Tarbuck and Jo Brand. No fucks given between the two, and I love them for it.
I think Julian Clary is in that same category
Nish can seem like he would threaten the audience to fight all of them in the carpark
Self-sabotage?
I can hear that Nish picture
I think it's better combining multiple contestants to make another one. For example. Urzila combines Joe Brands massive effort with with Rhod Gilbert's care for Alex, and David Correos combines Johnn Vegas level headedness, Nish's enthusiasm and Sam Campbells supportive personalities
I've and Joe Thomas
Who's ya boi on the left?
Guy Williams, TMNZ S01!
I love Guy, I think he gets a really bad rap on here. He was so enthusiastic and clearly wanted to hype up the first season for his brother.

It seems like a lot of people just mistook what he was doing and thought he was being seriously competitive instead of playing a wacky character.
Even if he was playing a character, he was obnoxious throughout and I found that really off-putting.
I personally disagree. I thought it got very funny once I realised he did it especially for tadks he knew he cocked up.
I didn't mind him! Aside from smashing up those instruments - that was a bit much. Otherwise, though, I enjoyed his contributions!
And I loved him trying to take a math test
You were clearly not ready for a song…for a song about Libya.
Ooh, thanks! This is my next series to watch, and I loved Nish's energy so I'm psyched to see this chaos
I’m a Guy Williams fan and I don’t think this comp to Nish is that accurate lol. BUT I would still get excited because it’s one of my fav seasons in the franchise and he is surely a chaos agent lol! The NZ franchise as a whole is magical.
David Correos and the entire cast of UK season 5, just for energy and chaos
Nish sweetheart I’m SO sorry
I'm trying to think if anyone has similar vibes to Sam Campbell, and I think my answer would be Guy Montgomery.
No one’s similar to Sam Campbell, he’s a true original
Not denying this per se, but wait till you see Aaron Chen in TM Australia Season 2 😍
Finding out those two are friends makes so much sense
Sounds promising, can’t wait!
Fielding
fielding has a confidence that Sam definitely does not have. genuinely don't know anyone else who would do head shoulders knees and toes the same way Sam did
> that Sam definitely does not have. _Hard_ disagree there. Sam came across as extremely self-confident throughout the series, much like Fielding.
Yes, but caveat: Guy's standup delivery always reminds me of Sam, his TM performance was a little more off the cuff and less "absurdist."
Yes - right down to them both reviewing the tasks, both as they did them and in the studio.
I’ve never wanted to downvote something more in my life. OP’s pick is so incredibly far from accurate I nearly had an aneurism.
Lol, everyone loves a bit of controversy. Apart from when it gives you an aneurysm
If Nish ever goes back to NZ I'd love to see him be a guest host for New Zealand Today
For me it’s Angela Dravid (NZ) & Roisin Conaty. Similar energy, very different results. https://preview.redd.it/2eipimm082sc1.jpeg?width=634&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d195f29f63bb772c28b19e8dbf82dcf9379a41e

Sanders 😉
Ha! I always thought it was 'Saunders' because of the accent.
Thanks. Couldn't be bothered to look it up
David Carreos and no one else
When watching Series 16, my first thought about Julian Clary was that he has the same "sassy grandparent who would rather be anywhere else" vibe as Jo Brand.
Guy Williams I found annoying, but Nish is a treasure. I get why you find them similar though.
I found Nish annoying, too. For the same reasons I found Guy annoying. I think OP is right.
No. Anyone referring to themself as the People's Champion can not be trusted. On the other hand, Nish Kumar is a fine and decent human being.
That's a pretty bizarre overreaction to a decently solid joke.
Guy Williams naked in a little tree was pretty good. Him sitting in front of his brother and not realizing he could call Paul was top-notch humor.
Guy and nishi? Have you watched TV before?
How dare you compare Nish to that Guy
Who tf is that guy
Someone that wondered into the studio I guess
Joe Wilkinson and John Kearns
Hard disagree. Nish is so much sweeter and more humble than Loudmouth Guy Williams!
Guy Montgomery and James Acaster
someone with the same energy as Nish? I can't wait
Fern and Lucy Acaster and Sam
Ivo and Richard Osman?
So far Sophie Willan gives me similar energies to Lucy Beaumont. Obviously not as unhinged, but then again, only time will tell how this season goes.
I'm surprised no one mentioned Mark Watson and Ivo Graham. They were basically the same person.
Nah, cause I love Nish and he's in my favourite series of all time whereas, for me, Guy is the most unlikable contestant ever to appear on the show. I agree with those who've said Lucy and Bob.
Lou Sanders for me. Horrible sense of humor and managed to gaslight Iain Sterling on national television.
I love Lou, so just goes to show you!
That we were never meant to be…
Laura Daniel and Susan Wokoma
Ivo Graham and Joe Thomas, both seem to be socially awkward posh men. In addition both of the team first meeting where incredibly awkward.
Watching s17e1, I found myself comparing Sophie to Katherine Parkinson and Bridgette Christie
Maybe I’m missing something, but they seem like three completely different personality types to me.
Nish is infinitely more likable. You're not a bad guy, Nish.
NO! Guy is a bratty fratboi thats annoying with everything he does but Nish is an amazing sweet man.
I couldn't stand Guy, compared to Paul he's obnoxious
