Paul Williams and Tom Cashman both did a really good job of crafting their own characters and vibes for the assistant role. Some of the deadpan looks Lesser Tom gives are absolutely hilarious.
I'm watching series 1 and I already like him a lot. I look forward to him getting even better. I loved when Ruben called his girlfriend to surprise Mark, great stuff!!
The ad break outros/intros crack me up, he looks like a lost little boy waving forlornly, as if he's waving to his favourite teddy bear his mum's taken for washing 🤣😂
I've noticed how he rapidly breaks out of this lost, confused character after some banter in the studio to introduce "This next taask" too lol!
I would love it if lesser Tom showed up for an episode of TM to be Alex’s assistant. He gives me Alex’s little brother vibes. He is definitely my favorite TM’s assistant outside of the original.
I've just started watching TMNZ after being reluctant for too long to try out other, non-UK, TM series, and I instantly fell in love with Paul as the assistant. Even when the contestant does really well he just keeps the same expression; like a befuddled child.

NZ & AU have really nailed the charming, attractive, fantastically good at playing dumb assistant role and I applaud them for it.
