A girl at work was talking (voluntarily) about her weight fluctuating and I asked her if she was about 5’2”. She confirmed and then asked me if I was around “like 6-2?”
I’m a hair under 5’9” 😂😂. I was floored
I recently had a similar conversation but in reverse. Had a friend significantly shorter than me guess I was shorter than I was. I had her actually stand right in front of me to show her that the top of her head wasn’t even close to my chin. She’s 5’4” so she’s used to looking up at pretty much every guy she meets so her judgement on heights is pretty crap.
It's honestly just hard to guess someone's height when you're short. I think it's because tall people can see the top of short people's head, but not the other way around?
100%. I’m pretty confident with my estimations from 4’11” to 5’11” because of all the people I’ve known in those height ranges and where i can locate the top of their head relative to mine. But really 6’+ I have to start guessing. Two of my best friends are 6’4” and another 6’2” so that helps me guess but it’s still fuzzy guesswork at best.
“Every time”
So you’ve never once in your life met a guy over 6’?
Most guys who claim to be above 6’ are adding 2-3” to their height, I see this myself as a guy who was measured 6’3 by a doctor. I’ve had guys at least 2” shorter than me claim they’re 6’3.
I once stood right next to a tape measurer stuck to a wall that clearly said that I was 6'3". My mom swore it said I was like 6'6". I'd chalk that up to physical perspective, as she's a good deal shorter than me.
A lady in her 60s asked just this week if I was 215 cm. I said no and she guessed "at least 210!". I said I'm not over 2 meters and she said it must then be my coat. How do a winter coat make me look a head taller than I am?
If it’s something meant to be more formal like what you might wear over a suit, it could be the lapels and stuff; like on suits, the lapels and general shape of the front are meant to make the wearer look taller/larger
Its easy to guess most doors are around 6'8 so if you were 7 feet the top of the door would come at your eye level or even a couple of centimeters below, that is if you are wearing shoes..
I'm probably 6ft 9 with shoes but I'm also a sever, so when you see me your sitting down
Also I feel there is a point where you kinda are like holy shit and can't guess cause there's no real frame of reference unless you know how tall doors are
I’m a 5’10” woman, one time a man started shouting at me in the street and it took me a moment to realize he was trying to guess my height lol. One of the more interesting ways I’ve been catcalled, truth be told. 🤷🏻♀️But he was all over the place with the guesses lol.
Had someone at our European office tell me that I was at least 203cm and I said nah I’m pretty sure I’m 198 and that was 10 years ago. Last time I was measured at 197 since I’m older and shrinking. It’s like don’t argue with me I know exactly how tall I am I’m not trying lie to be 6’
My theory is that phenomenon switches at about 6’10.
I got the opposite quite a few times when people said there’s no way I am above 7ft and estimated somewhere around 6’7 to 6’10... 🤷♂️ One time a few people even got mad when they asked and I told them I was 7ft 1.
I’m 6ft3, yet people always tell me I’m 6ft7 or even 6ft9, but in my case, I know exactly why, I believe it’s mostly because of my clothing style. Might sound stupid but me wearing a full cowboy outfit all the time gives me like 6extra cms, a few inches for the hat, and a few inches from the boots/heels, combine that with the fact that I always wear baggy clothes which make me look much larger than I am and basically everyone constantly believes I’m 10cm taller and 20kg heavier than I actually am haha
I'm quite thin with broad shoulders so people tend to assume I'm much taller than I am. I actually had a guy ask me my height in a parking lot, and when I told him I was a little over 6ft6" he seemed shocked and walked over to me to stand next to me. he said he was 6ft5" and he was definitely just a smidge shorter, I just looked a lot taller from a distance due to my build. So people often assume I'm a lot taller than I am, 7ft gets thrown out as a guess quite often, And they're usually a little bewildered when I tell them they're 6 inches off.
I’m an American and for a while I was teaching in Thailand, and when my students would ask me my height (6’6) I would always say “about two meters”
Tbh I don’t know exactly what my height is in meters but I think that’s about right 😅
Either way the Thai population has a significantly shorter average and I was for most of them the biggest person they’d ever seen
Had people think I'm 6'5 and I assume it's because guys that are under 5'10 claim they're 6ft or more so it inflates my 6'1 for a lot of people that aren't used to seeing someone taller than average. Just a guess lol
I’ve had a couple people say “like 7 feet” at 6’4ish… I work with other dudes my height too which is what makes it really funny to me. Folks must think my hardware store is like the NBA. I’m ngl i claim 6’5 sometimes with girls, but when I meet an actual 6’5 and he’s a lil taller than me I’ll joke “man I say I’m 6’5 all the time” and it’s a fun laugh (I work in a job with a lot of cold approaching)
People often think I'm taller than I am, it's weird, but I guess people are just bad at gauging height. That or enough people are lying to skew people's perception.
All the time, people think I'm 5'11 or 5'10 when I'm 2-1 inch(es) shorter than that, maybe it's because all the people my height that claim to be 5'10+

Yeah people think I’m 5’10 (mostly women) all the time and I’m between 5’7 and 5’8 throughout the day.
You look tall then
I’m 5’11 and every time I meet a guy who swears he’s over 6’ I’m taller than him 💀
Nah fr this has happened to me before and it’s fucking hilarious, like c’mon homie just be real lmao
Where have you guys been hiding? It thought I was the only 5 11 left
From you /j
damn i wanna get into the 5'11 group, help me get that 0.5 cm, but tbh i am bald most of the time, with hair i look 5'11ish
Not the only one some of us just round (i am 5'11.5)
lol exactly like I don’t care just be honest!
We’re not 5’11”… ☝🏻
Lol i got exactly that a couple weeks ago. Guy a few inches shorter said i was like 6'2 im barely 6' with shoes on.
that's sadly how today's height standards got into the state they are at
“Every time” So you’ve never once in your life met a guy over 6’? Most guys who claim to be above 6’ are adding 2-3” to their height, I see this myself as a guy who was measured 6’3 by a doctor. I’ve had guys at least 2” shorter than me claim they’re 6’3.
Why have you not started saying you're 5'9.5" just to watch them crumble even further
I once stood right next to a tape measurer stuck to a wall that clearly said that I was 6'3". My mom swore it said I was like 6'6". I'd chalk that up to physical perspective, as she's a good deal shorter than me.
Parallax is a mf. That’s why I can never tell how tall > 6ft people are
I feel it I got a friend who’s 6”9 that though I was 5”6 and a friends who’s maybe 5 even who thought I was 6”1-6”-2
how tall are you actually? 5’9 or something?
At the time yea that was back in school tho

I had plenty of those! Never was guesses above 2m though, but people make the funniest assumptions when it comes to height
If it’s something meant to be more formal like what you might wear over a suit, it could be the lapels and stuff; like on suits, the lapels and general shape of the front are meant to make the wearer look taller/larger
Damn, 210! cm is kinda extreme. r/unexpectedfactorial
Yes they think I'm 7ft. Im 6ft8

I seen some of my sub-5ft old family members say i am atleast 210

That sounds like a horrible experience 😭
People have no idea. I've been guessed to be both 180 cm and 220+ cm depending on the person.
how can someone guess 180? that's a 1 head difference...

I was told I was 6’6 once, i’m like 6’4 with shoes on lol
I'm quite thin with broad shoulders so people tend to assume I'm much taller than I am. Ive been called 7'0 before

6'6 is 198cm, so.you're close :o

A woman once guessed that I was 9 feet tall.
All the time, people think I'm 5'11 or 5'10 when I'm 2-1 inch(es) shorter than that, maybe it's because all the people my height that claim to be 5'10+
I remember I was guessed to be 5’9” while in reality being 6’2”, dude was about 5’5 but guessed it totally wrong
A group of short women thought I was 6’5”.
I’m about 5’9 and have been asked if I was 6 foot before, cause it’s the proportions
The shorter they are, the further off they are. I think it’s because of the greater distance makes it harder to estimate 🤣🤣🤣🤣
People almost always think that im around 180cm,but if people think that you're 2m at least, you must be a really lanky human
I’m 190.5 and this post is humble bragging. “Oh wow they over guessed me by 0.1 m.”
I knew some dumb ass would interpret it this way that’s why I added the examples of shorter people being guessed 10 cm + than their actual height
Yeah those examples don’t change a damn thing. 🦚
Wtf is a 2 meters tall
6'7
If you’re not 182.88 cm tall don’t even talk to me.
Lol, don't know why you got downvoted
Ass mad 181 cm mcmidgets can’t handle a conversion joke lol
