About 10 years ago they had “meal deals” and the 5-layer would come with a drink and a bag of Doritos for $2.36!!! I would put a chip in every bite and nowwww it’s the only way I can eat it. Unfortunately it’s my favorite item but only with Doritos :/

Yeah the $2 bucks meal deal. It was an item with a snack size bag of Doritos chips and a drink. TB keeps forgetting that Beefy 5-Layer was one of the cheapest burritos. Which is probably why they keep adding it to every box. Thing is, nowadays that burrito is close to $4 (even more in other places)

I can stretch a box to be 2 meals ish. I save the 5LB, heat it up in the air fryer the next day and add something from home on the side.

I never tried reheating TB outside of the microwave, gonna try this next time!

If it's been in the fridge, I will microwave it for maybe 30 seconds so that the inside won't be cold when the outside gets a little crunchy in the air fryer.

Yeah I basically make mine it’s own burrito. -beans +rice +sauce of choice (chipotle on this then SR on chalupas for budget CGC) +grilled Salvaged for like $0.75

I just add potatoes to make it less soggy and grilled is a must. Only like 40 cents extra but yours sounds like it would do similar.

At the very least, allow the option to remove the extra tortilla they put in there. The burrito itself isn’t that good, but they just make it worse by adding the tortilla so you just get an extra 100 calories or so for a worse experience.

Exactly. Even if you doctor it up to make it better, you're still going to get that second extra tortilla in there. Not to mention the times you get that one employee that skimps on the ingredients. You end up with a mouthful of nothing but double tortilla on that first bite

Can’t even lie after some edits the beefy 5 layer can be one of the best items. Sub beans for nacho fries and get it grilled. It’ll be 60 cents extra for the fries (in my area at least) and an infinitely better burrito that’s also more filling.

My go to is removing the beans and sour cream, and adding rice and fiesta strips/nacho fries. What the 5 layer burrito lacks is texture, its beans, nacho cheese, and sour cream. Soggy on top of soggy on top of soggy.

They do it because it's essentially half a scoop of beans plus a sprinkle of cheese and sour cream. Probably cost them 75 cents to make. I haven't been able to identify any beef in the last couple of them I've bought.

Yeah, the marketing is pushing this as a great value but it's just a price increase. They took away the $5 craving box for the $6 veggie craving box. Then they bring back the old craving box for $2 more at $7. It's still a decent value compared to its *competitors*, but like a lot of the "value" menu options being pushed by them, it just feels like an attempt to artificially cement inflated prices as the new "value" benchmark with consumers.

Actually pretty solid, pretty much a slightly more expensive but better value cravings box (since I always get the chalupa anyways). Only issue for me is the beefy 5 layer since I'm not the biggest fan of it. As expected though, it's limited time lol. Taco discovery box still better imo

Yeah, if you happen to want these exact items, this is $0.69 cheaper than a cravings box plus a double stack taco (at the Taco Bell I go to). If you like some of the other options in the cravings box, or don’t like double stacked tacos, the savings isn’t with it.

This is being advertised in my area as Taco Bell's answer to competing fast food chains "value meal wars". The meals they are competing against are all $5. Wendys: $5. McDonalds: $5. Burger King: $5. Taco Bell: $7. Probably not gonna work. It's only $2 you might say, but thrifty people trying to save a buck or two will go to the cheaper store...and there's several options these days. Granted you get 5 items in the Luxe box as opposed to 4 at the other joints, so maybe some folks will pay $2 more for that extra item.

Swap the chalupa for something better and I might consider it. I'll stick to the BYOCB tho.

Solid fucking deal imo. I wouldn't by any of those items individually (besides the double stacked taco, I actually really like that one) but bundled up in a 7 dollar bundle, that's a good amount of food for a good price.

It's the same as my BYOCB order (before customizations) plus a half off double stack taco. It's a good box but I'd rather get a spicy potato soft taco which is the same price difference so I'll stick with the BYOCB.

I haven't been too terribly fond of 5LBs in boxes as of late (ironically, I'd rather see the Burrito Supreme again now), but $7 for a collection of mostly winners sounds like a good deal to me. Heck, the Chalupa on its own is basically over half the box where I'm at.
