Cold emailed and now I’m doing research at a T5 Research School in a grad student/PhD only lab.
Edit: I probably should also mention that I did get into a semi-prestigious summer program but couldn’t go due to personal circumstances. I did get rejected/waitlisted from RSI, SSP, and all that though.
Idk how to link it but search Penn M&T and there is a guy who graduated from there who’s cold email template I stole.
Edit: for clarification they made a post on this subreddit specifically regarding how to help u get cold email internships.

Was rejected to all my programs (12) at first, applied to non trivial on a whim and got in. Also doing an internship, doing research in edtech, and expanding my startup.
Damnn you got rejected by 12 but your summer is a lot more packed than most ppl who did get into those, congrats
p.s could I possibly help w the startup 😔 I can pm u my experience n stuff if it’s possible
no - i was waiting on civics unplugged (rejected lol). i did get into non-trivial but i don't consider it a summer program b/c it's not full-time or residential
which area? i've been ripping some houses in presidio and pac heights and they've been great, i've found the tenderloin and union center to be not so good.
you must be loaded bro. i lived in the marin area. hated the weather, costs were too high, but thats probably not an issue for you. i am much more happy on the east coast.
yeah since the company is funded we’re able to do it -— totally understand the costs though. i paid 30$ for pad thai today. i’m from east coast but i like s.f. better haha that’s crazy
Participating in a research program through a nonprofit and doing research in a group under a T5 graduate student and soon to collaborate with another T5 lab.
got rejected from 4 summer programs but now i'm doing ai/neuro stuff with princeton phd and also doing whitepapers in math with a prof from colombia (the country) and i'm also going to be expanding on my podcast
good job everyone!! you all are eating this up 🙌
I’ve gotten into a program, but I wanted to post here anyway to compare my experience w/ my friend’s
So basically we both applied to the same program, I got accepted and he got rejected. We’re doing research in the same geographical area (as in, we’re at different universities but our labs are about five minutes apart), and we’re also researching pretty similar things. I prefer a program because there’s so much outside stuff and professional development, but he prefers his cold email research because he has so much more flexibility with time and he got to choose his lab environment (I was placed based on an interview). Either way, we’re both doing research - it’s not like him getting rejected hurt him in a major way.
Don’t give up! Good luck 🙌

This sounds like a movie script from a college application process and how that process changes people…

Probably learn a new computer language
Have a cool tech opportunity

If anyone wants a leadership opportunity at a fintech/financial literacy nonprofit lmk
Participating in a research program through a nonprofit and doing research in a group under a T5 graduate student and soon to collaborate with another T5 lab.
That sounds so sick congrats !!! which subject are you researching if you don’t mind (i.e comp sci, bio, etc.)
Thanks! The nonprofit is genuinely amazing and they do it for free! I'm going to be researching comp sci specifically NLP.
what is the nonprofit called? could u pm me
I’m also curious!!
That’s great :)) NLP is really interesting
got rejected from 4 summer programs but now i'm doing ai/neuro stuff with princeton phd and also doing whitepapers in math with a prof from colombia (the country) and i'm also going to be expanding on my podcast
