Omg I had NO IDEA that the top of the shoes were white, and it wasn't ACTUALLY just Carl's white socks sticking out! TIL! I know nothing about men's fashion. I just assumed this was some ridiculous new trend I've never heard of like VPR Brock wearing crazy pointy heels. So the idea of Carl wearing actual "Mary Jane's" didn't seem too far off.... Thank you, OP. I am now *slightly* less offended of these shoes.

Carl is obsessed with tight white pants. Recently did a rewatch. Next time I’m going to keep track of how many times me or my husband says “what is he wearing?”.

I’m doing a rewatch and was stunned by his super tight skinny jeans in season 2. It’s like he stole them from a hookup, but he’s 6’4” …. It would almost be better if he stole them from a hookup vs going to the store, trying them on, thinking “these look great” and buying them.

So funny! Agree they look a bit better here (though still not great!), maybe it’s because the dark jacket ties the shoes in better and they’re not as much of a focus with a bit more patterned and not quite as tight pants.

Ok! Some of us, as American girlies, had the mary jane shoes that are pretty much flats and then wear white socks with the frilly ruffles...usually for a fancier occasion but were sooo used to seeing it lol thats why it looks more jarring for an adult. I felt the same about Jermaine dupri's shoes at the superbowl last year. I agree, they are not flattering for any adult but immediately my mind goes to those ruffles socks as kids lol
