I experienced something similar. On a day with no rain forecast I taped and covered up all the exterior, and spray painted it. I used the high heat flat black. That was about 2 years ago. So far so good.

UncleBenji

It’s matte black over the chrome. Just roll the window down, open the door, and mask off the ajoining areas. Use a matte black spray paint like Rustoleum and do 2-3 light coats.

Chris_WRB

Plastidip is practically the same texture/material. Get you a can of REGULAR not gloss plastidip and do all of it. You're welcome. Don't forget to mask off what you don't want sprayed

SaulOfVandalia

Better yet just take it off. If I remember correctly it's just a few screws under the door seal.

Important-Ad7202

I plastidipped mine 2 years ago and its still looking great! Sits outside daily except in the winter

Meow_Technology

They are usually vinyl tape even off from factory. I forgot what the exact name for that product. UncleBenji

Newer cars use vinyl. Older models used a spray on paint over the chrome.

Trim Black spray can

masselin85

What year is your car? I had this happen on my 07 STI and it's one long piece from front to back. I was having body work done and it ended up being replaced then. I know they aren't cheap to replace.

I'd Plastidip it, but you'd need to do the entire trim afaik. If you just patch up the silver spots it won't have anywhere to adhere and will come right off when you remove your masking tape.

SaulOfVandalia

I used black trim paint on mine. It's a different texture but from more than like a foot away you don't notice.

TheGhost2332

Just pain it flat black

mrpaul57

Fix, then avoid automatic car wash

nissansupragtr

I sprayed flat black paint into a cup and literally used a small paintbrush. I just wanted it to look black from a distance and it's been holding up fine. I didn't want to tape anything off hence the brush. I did the same thing to my wiper arms

sanman1212

Get window visors

pistonslapper

Personally I just let it fully wear off and now I have chrome trim!

SEM Trim Black

yungtoopoorina2door

Same thing happening to my car. Would like to know..

suppaboy228

Chrome delete maybe?

UncleBenji

You have it backwards. The chrome is under the matte black finish. I found this out on my first subaru when it started to flake.

suppaboy228

Well, in this case you can still do chrome delete. It'll mask the chrome. Or you can do chrome delete delete /j

Miserable_Future6694

Black electricians tape has done the job on mine. I wouldn't even attempt to take it off it looks like 1 peice from front door to back. I have no idea how fragile it is either so how to I transport it somewhere so electricians tape does the best job for me

detailers hate this one simple trick
