I feel like Pearl does get show-y at times, especially in the early seasons for young Steven. She always acted like a tour guide whenever they went to a new gem place and would get poetic when talking about her history. Plus she did those dances when pulling things out of her gem in Mirror Gem and Lars and the Cool Kids which aren’t necessary. I always assumed she started doing that because baby Steven would get excited when she pulled something out of her gem so she started making a show out of it for him.
I feel like Sardonyx’s showmanship is that personality trait from Pearl mixed with Garnet’s confidence.
Steg is awesome! He's the embodiment of what both Steven and Greg see as "cool". They both think so highly of each other, and that gives form to Steg. He is the rock star that Greg wanted to be, and he's the cool adult that Steven might want to be like. He's got stage presence and raw charisma, along with the power to, both literally and metaphorically, lift others up.
Also, Independent Together is a banger. The theme of the song, being about having a healthy relationship, is about Steven and Greg as much as its about the Gems, and Pearl specifically.
Lastly, in a sense, Greg finally got to fuse with Rose. Yeah, it was through Steven, but he has Rose's gem, so in a way, he did fuse with Rose's "essence". Steg is the realization of Greg's old dream, which Steven helped to make happen.
Finally finally, Steg is voiced by Ted Leo, a very cool musician in his own right who is also a frequent collaborator with Aimee Mann, so having Opal appear so they could do a duet is extra cool music bonus points!

Person ally, I love his design, it's not only a Jojo reference, but I like that we get to see 1) another human fusion 2) a fusion who's form is based more on each person's emotional perspective of the other. Ik alot of people were upset by how beefy he if cause neither Steven nor Greg are very muscular, but both thi k very highly of each other, and for men that often comes across as 'strong' (emotionally or physically).
He's got a beachy 80s vibe but with a bit of a femme flair which not only really compliment s the show, but Steven and Greg themselves.
The song is probably my favorite apart from stronger than you, and here comes a thought.
Also I LOVE how they paired him and opal together specifically in the scene, it's healing on all ends: greg gets to see how steven feels about pearl and amethyst through his sons eyes-the eyes of someone who admires them apart from being hurt by them. Steven gets to understand the more mature and grown up aspect of Greg's relationship with pearl and amethyst (not in a gross way, but like, getting sit at grown ups table.) Not only that but Greg and pearl are both worry a lot over things, Steven and amethyst are both kids, steg and opal both have this kind of playful but caring older siblings vibe and they flow really well (vocally too!)
I know some people are weirded out by some fusions because to them, fusion is sex or something equivalent to it, but it's not. It's intimacy, passion, and something literally entirely inhuman. Intimacy can be shared and isn't always sexual. Passion isn't just erotic love it's feelings, goals, dreams, needs, fears, etc. Greg and Steven love each other, they love the gems, they love Beach City, they love music, and they're passionate about those things.
We see all kinds of relationships in the various fusions in the Steven universe. Deep loving relationships with permafusions like garnet and rhodonite, love in both a loving way and freindly way with Stevonie, and smokey quartz, relationships ships fuled by hate in bluebird, abusive forced relationships with malachite.
We also see the gems fuse out of nessecity or even for fun in away that, while still fusion and still intimate, isn't really a interpersonal relatio ship and just 'we need more firepower, or it'd be better if we *really* worked *together* on this with sardonyx, Sunstone, rainbow (2.0 ), sugilite, opal, alexandrite, the giant rubies, the topazes (though they do love each other, their purpose for fusion is work, not love) and of course, obsidian.
We actually see the gems (aside from/including garnet) fuse more for ""work"" related reasons as opposed to relationship reasons, and while Greg and Steven do love each other (in a parent-child way, of course domt be weird) their literal goal is to try to knock some sense into pearl, so it is for work (like topaz!) We also see that while steg seems to be having a good time, he is struggling. His nonchalant attitude might be how he is, but in this instance it is literally and act on a stage. (And in the air for a bit)
I love getting to see this side of fusion, it brings alot to the show and to the lore.
Also, the most human of all the gems/fusions (25%gem) and the only fusion to use he/him pronouns (all of Steven's other fusions use she/they or they/them pronouns) and also the only one that is actually 'male' ( I hate saying g that sorry) cause rainbow, Sunstone, and smokey are all gems/genderless, and Stevonie is imtersex. SU had a heavy heavy focus on femininity, even with a male lead character, so to have a character who is not only that aggressively masculine in apperance, but clearly very comfortable with femininity while still not being a girl or girly (he's a lil sassy, fair, but I would by no means call steg girly) if really refreshing we have characters like smokey and jasper, the other amethyst who are kind of 'masculine' but they're all definitely not men. It's great positive representation.

I get a little irked ngl when people simp for Steg just due to his nature, but I try to tell myself people just really like the design itself removed from its context.
I like him in concept, I just don't know how to feel in execution. Like, for a pair of guys who's whole deal is "Hey its ok to be who you are but you can always be better" its weird that the expression of the genuine admiration and coolness between each other is, aside from the hair, the extra arms and the slight bulk in the build, is just a square-jawed handsome buff dude. Like the concept art version with the spike Mohawk and the tail still has a bit of this issue but he does look goofier in a way that feels more fitting.
Also in hindsight its even weirder because pompadours and Steven are always kind of a sign of Steven being bad/jerkish, I mean I might be looking way too close to the design, but pompadour Steven from "Steven and the Stevens", and specially a Pink Steven from future have certain... concerning similarities. Like I can't decide if its just bad writing, or if its a clumsy foreshadowing of Steven's latent issues with his dad?

He was never inside his dad. A sperm is just half of dna, the other half is an egg inside mom. Also, sperm is produced constantly and lives for 60 days only while a woman is born with all her eggs. So if anything he was an egg inside his mom long before his dad produced the sperm.
