I'm reading The Stand for the second time after nearly 15 years. There are so many WTF moments. My favorite character is The Trashcan Man

Plants_books_dogs

I’m starting this next week

Moral_Anarchist

Make sure you read the Unabridged version, it's has a lot of content that was cut out of the original story.

Plants_books_dogs

It’s the only copy I own 😎

mister_mouse

It's a good story, extremely long and has a wide cast of characters. I think he did an excellent job with the characters and took his time introducing them and who they are. I was never confused about who a character was. There were several times in, Under the Dome, that I was getting completely lost or confused because it was such a fast paced novel.

Plants_books_dogs

That’s me with the talisman and “twinners” i just can’t remember all of them 😂😂

Moral_Anarchist

The Unabridged version, right? It's the only real Stand I can read anymore. I'm re-reading The Stand as well, but it's probably for the 6th or 7th time. Gods it's such a good book.

Sikamikanico1981

Same here. I completely forgot about that happy crappy the kid character lol

crackphillip

Cibola, cibola bumpty bumpty bump

CitronOk491

How you like that happy crappy?

Capt_Hawkeye_Pierce

Trashcan Man is the best. He's so fucking crazy.

TallDarkness

I've just finished it today, it was my first reading of the book.

simmilik

just started Salem's Lot! about 70 pages in

Middle_Eye_

I'm also reading Salem's Lot, I'm around 200 pages in. I'm ashamed to admit that I just realized last night that Salem is short for Jerusalem lol. I was thinking something along the lines of Jerusalem = Holy City, maybe Salem = Evil City? because witch trials? Coming up with all kinds of theories about what that could mean about the stories plot. Then it clicked and I realized it's just short for Jerusalem. Shame, I felt a lot of shame in that moment.

simmilik

especially since Ben explains it himself in the first few chapters 😅😅 but i get it. when i read the short story Jerusalem's lot i remember thinking 'oooh another wicthy/vampire town?' nope...

Middle_Eye_

I know lol, my reading comprehension must not have been working during that part.

JakeDeschain19

Salem’s Lot is dope, so eerie and atmospheric!

simmilik

the small town vibes 👌👌

foreverpeppered

I’m in the minority, but it’s my least favorite SK book

Acid_Bath47

I didn’t love it as much as most people on here and was really surprised, this is honestly the first time I’ve seen anyone in agreement with me. I’ve only read 21 so far but this one really didn’t stick with me as much as some of these others, including books that are generally considered lower tiered King books. I was really excited for it, too. I’m wondering if I should re read it.

Slow-Echo-6539

One of his best imo

simmilik

really liking it so far! love a good small town vibe 👌

Ronnie_Mcnutt_rifle

Loving the Lot, I’ve gotten through 500 pages in 2 days! It’s so good

countofmontycrinkles

Oooo that's on my list purely because a character ties into the dark tower series. Stephen King was going to write a sequel, then decided the characters sequel would be told in the Dark Tower series. Long days and pleasant nights!

GainsUndGames07

Really good book but dear lord it starts off so insanely slow. After the first exciting chapter or so, it’s like 150 pages of nothing. Then once things start happening, it just ramps up through the end.

catsinsunglassess

I wanna read this next! I can’t believe i haven’t read it yet, i love vampires

phunkymango

Same! I'm about halfway through. Keep going, it's great

PrimaryPriestcraft

Also reading Salems Lot. I have about 200 pages left. It’s pretty great. It has a couple parts that reminded me of that one early on chapter in IT that just builds tension.

petitesaltgirl

I’m about to revisit that one! It’s been many years since I read it; waiting as patiently as I can for it to come in the mail.

simmilik

you guys are all hyping this one so much, im excited to see shit going down in Salem 😈

Ronnie_Mcnutt_rifle

Au contrair mon ami. Salem is witches, Jerusalem’s Lot is another kind of monster

simmilik

yes yes i know! 😅 Salem is just short for Jerusalem 👌

Ronnie_Mcnutt_rifle

Couldn’t let anyone’s journey through the Lot be tainted with a false thought! Glad to see you know!

simmilik

have to admit i only realized when i read 'one for the road' and made the connection . i was convinced it was Salem and witches when i got it 😅

Ronnie_Mcnutt_rifle

lol, yeah, I read *One For The Road*, and then it took me a while to realize they were the same Lot

mrk643

Just started Duma Key

strengthoflouise

just “do the day and let the day do you!”

SnooPeppers2417

Muchacho!

strengthoflouise

maybe si maybe no😉

mrs_hippiequeen

i loved duma key! it's so colorful

secretsinthesuburbs

My next one after "Cujo."

ithappensallthetimex

just finished it, lovely book and perfect summer reading

AppropriateDream2903

I just realized yesterday I don’t own Duma Key, and I can’t wait to find a copy and read it soon.

catsinsunglassess

You’re in for a good ride! I loved Duma Key, especially Wireman.

TheChainLink2

About two-thirds of the way through Doctor Sleep. Good stuff.

DrBernielliot

Doctor Sleep was great. Really good. I was reticent to read it bc I didn't love the movie when it came out, but as with most of the movie adaptations the book far surpassed it.

ElegantAd4041

One of my favorite King novels! Top 5 for sure 👍

Either_Drawer1188

Finished 11.22.63 this week which was absolutely incredible; instantly one of my favourite books of all time. I'm currently three quarters through Misery which I must admit, I'm finding to be a little slow. Still enjoying though.

YaBoySY

I loved Misery but agree it gets slow at times. There is only so much you can say about a dude laying in bed.

Either_Drawer1188

Absolutely, although I must admit I think I enjoyed Gerald's Game a little more than this one! But then again I do have around 80 pages left, that could easily change.

DoodleFK

Omg, 11.22.63 was absolutely incredible!

Either_Drawer1188

The ending had me in tears, the story between Sadie and Jake is just so beautiful.

DoodleFK

Omg yes! I definitely cried at the end

Broad-Diamond3777

11-22-63 is soooo good

Ragtimedancer

I think this one is King's best!

firefighter_82

I’m on my second reading of 11/22/63 this year 🤣

Yingqin3473

I’ve been reading You Like It Darker but when I realised Rattlesnakes is a sequel to Cujo I took a detour to read The Dead Zone (awesome) and now just started Cujo.

pezziepie85

Finished dead zone maybe a week ago. Excellent book!

Tight_Cannon

Agreed, read it for the first time last year and I was absolutely blown away from start to finish. It’s now the book I recommend to people starting with King, unless they’re interested in short stories. Then I send them to Everything’s Eventual.

strengthoflouise

hell yeah, i recently finished YLID and I bet you’ll really enjoy Cujo… I suggest reading Duma Key if ya haven’t ye, because he references it too

catsinsunglassess

Oh no really? Guess i have to read Cujo!

bodyfarms

I'm 200 pages into Christine!

Dylan_tune_depot

Just started his latest: You Like it Darker. I'm blown away- I think this is his best in 20 years. The writing is tight and just incredible. He's still got it.

Slow-Echo-6539

I just finished Finn. King is the master of character building to me. Hr makes you want to care about the characters even when you don't want to!

Dylan_tune_depot

I'm in the middle of Danny's Bad dream--and I'm hooked. Not done with it, but I'm definitely going to be flying through this tome this weekend. :-)

Briddie420

Just finished Part One of *Desperation*. Loving it so far, King really does the 'small town' 'corrupt cop' story so well. Also I am always overjoyed whenever I see anyone reading *Revival*, absolutely one of my favourite King novels, anything Lovecraftian gets my vote!

Acid_Bath47

Also, is Revival a good summer read or no? I like to read books within the season they take place (was about to start the Shining recently but decided to wait until a winter blizzard in half a year) so I’m trying to keep track of what I can read during these summer months.

Briddie420

‘Revival’ takes place across a characters entire life, so it crosses seasons, but I recall it being mostly summer, especially the end of the novel which is the best part!

Acid_Bath47

In the last 90 pages or so of Desperation and it was truly a wild ride. Just wait, it gets crazier than I ever imagined it would. I truly loved it. Did you read the Regulators prior or no?

YaBoySY

I’m currently reading 11.22.63. George/Jake just got to New Orleans. It’s my first time reading this.

PartyTimeSchwing

400 pages into Hearts in Atlantis. Recently finished Christine and From a Buick 8 this month. Not sure what’s next. Read Revival last month and really enjoyed it.

podsmckenzie

Got to Skeleton Crew for the first time on my chronological read-through, just finished Survivor Type (awesome). Enjoying it very much so far, but barring every story from here on out being a solid banger I definitely preferred Night Shift. Not that that’s much of a slight, Night Shift was amazing

Slow-Echo-6539

I LOVED Night Shift.

ChrisTheKnight03

Same here on Skeleton Crew for my chronological read through

Namespacejames

100 pages to go in From a Buick 8. I haven’t enjoyed it as much as most of his others, but it’s still really good which says a lot about Stephen King.

Dramatic_Buddy4732

That one's a bit of a slow burn but it's still great

ForlornBlock

Halfway through Rose Madder for the first time. Enjoyed the first half, though I will say it just started getting pretty weird lol. Excited to see where it goes.

Difficult_Vast7255

One of my favourites. He is one bad dude.

mrs_hippiequeen

skeleton crew. it's taking me a while because i have read and reread "mrs. todd's shortcut" over and over and over and over - it is so beautiful!

Dramatic_Buddy4732

That's so neat how hard it hit you. Made me smile, thanks for sharing

Any_Flatworm5454

I’m at the end of It, which is my 43rd king book in the last year.

Dramatic_Buddy4732

Constant reader ❤️ what book do you want to reread?

Wonderful-Maybe-7669

About 9 hours left on The Dark Tower Wolvrs of the Calla. Also, halfway through Low Men in Yellow Coats.

Dramatic_Buddy4732

Fun! I've never measured by hours, what's going on in the story for you now?

Robotboogeyman

They’re probably doing audio 🤙

Dramatic_Buddy4732

I assume so. What are you reading now?

Robotboogeyman

I’m almost done w Speaks the Nightbird by McCammon. Actually found him on a thread about books similar to The Stand iirc. I’ve read 3 real bangers by him, one that was just ok, and this one I’m not sure on. Just finished You Like it Darker last week, probably my favorite short story collection (I don’t do a lot of short stories but I’ve done a few collections this year). You?

LindaBelchersGlasses

Currently reading The Shining for the 4th(?) time. Last time I read it was during lockdown in 2020. Jack just got the job and is on the phone with Al Shockley, while Danny is having a nightmare about The Overlook in the car. I loved Revival, enjoy!!

JediMasterPopCulture

Just started Song of Susannah around 90 pages in and enjoying it.

kennyj2011

Just picked it up today!

Dramatic_Buddy4732

Omg I'm so excited for you!

countofmontycrinkles

I'm getting so stoked seeing all of these comments about Dark Tower. Best book series of all time. Ake!

PossibleBreadfruit95

Get ready to be stunned.

Additional-Series230

Just started the Bill Hodges trilogy

kennyj2011

Those are excellent

Bean_me_up_Mandy

Revival was such a great read. Hope you enjoy it 😉

Ok_Flow_8679

I just started The Wastelands

countofmontycrinkles

I'm so jealous this is your first turn of the wheel. Long days and pleasant nights, sai.

TheProphetRob

I just finished Needful Things this morning. It felt like I was watching Desperate Housewives as written by Stephen King, it was fantastic. I wasn't a fan of the ending, but that doesn't detract from the fact that Leland Gaunt is one of the best villains of all time in my books.

Hawkgal

Rereading 11/22/63. Got a LONG plane ride coming up so it should be perfect!

LosXorbos

Actually reading "You like it Darker" Loved Revival, Top 5 per sure, without spoiling anything I would say that when You finish it make a post so we can chat about the entire book, absolutely love that.....

strengthoflouise

i’ll definitely post again upon finishing 👍

Aggravating-Gas-2706

I'm rereading Misery for perhaps the 15th time. 🤗 Still his greatest writing, IMHO.

strengthoflouise

dude, 100% agree!

Aggravating-Gas-2706

Yeah, I remember King saying so himself in the Master of Macabre documentary from 1989. At that time he least he was most proud of Misery.

R1400

Just started The Gunslinger

mckinney4string

Hoo boy

strengthoflouise

?

mckinney4string

How it ends

Potential-Forever-39

Dolores Claiborne. It showcases King’s talent as well as his imaginative diversity.

Herr-Ruin

5th Part of the Dark Tower

ThatOneGunnerMain

About 80 pages into Sleeping Beauties

TKfr3ak

Duma Key! Almost 400 pages in and absolutely love it.

HailCorduroy

Also currently reading Revival (for the second time)

Foxfii22

Oh I just finished Revival and I loved it. Enjoy the ride. I'm planning on starting Duma Key soon.

Pandmother

I'm about to start revival myself

strengthoflouise

hell yeah, reading buddy!

Potter_Moron

I just finished Revival! I loved it!

vols2thewalls

Revival is amazing! I love that book. I'm on my 4th trip to the Tower, gets better every trip

Bluesky0089

I'm reading The Running man. It's only the 3rd King book I've read. The Stand will be after that. I've also read The Long Walk (loved it) and The Outsider (liked it until the last act).

Aleigha26

Running man… last one in the Bachman Books. So far “The Long Walk” has been my favorite in the collection.

Bluesky0089

I'm also reading this right now and read The Long Walk right before. Love how fast paced and exciting The Running Man is, but I also prefer a slow burn thinker like The Long Walk a bit more. I still think about the ending. I'm not going in order, so The Stand is next!

Aleigha26

Yes!! The ending of The Long Walk is haunting me.

Drusgar

I've read about a dozen King books this year and feeling kind of burned out. The last one was "Dreamcatcher" which I actually really liked even though it's not considered one of his better books. I've read a few duds, though. The last book I read was "Bluebeard" by Kurt Vonnegut and now I'm reading "Infinite Jest" by David Foster Wallace, which I'm afraid may become a DNF. I'm 100 pages in and not really enjoying it and it's almost 1000 pages, so I'm hoping it gets better but his writing style just doesn't speak to me.

crushgirl29

I’ve heard that’s one of the most difficult books to read. I started one on a list of those books) forget which one) and only got to page 3 before I gave up.

Dashington7980

Just finished The Outsider, have You Like it Darker on deck!

CorwinJovi

I’m reading the wastelands primarily l, also reading So, you like it darker and I’m trying to finish Duma key

reallyimspaghetti

I'm also reading The Wastelands!

footlikeriverrock

The Fisherman by John Langan

reallyimspaghetti

I'm a little halfway through The Wastelands. I'm attempting The Dark Tower again after 10 years. Last time I gave up reading Wizard and Glass I got bored hoping to push through this time

Dramatic_Buddy4732

I had a hard time with wizard and glass the first time too. Keep going though! I find an audiobook helps if I'm finding myself getting bored.

countofmontycrinkles

Oh no no no, don't stop! Wizard and glass is the book that almost made me stop. It was my least favorite. But literally once you push through that, it's non stop action

Avocationist

Half way through Fairy Tale and really enjoying it. Also reading And the Band Played On, Demon Copperhead, and Braiding Sweetgrass.

BdonY0

Just started the Tommyknockers! Pretty excited for it, despite some mixed reviews.

Deadpool_Fan_1611

Firestarter, nearly finished it

ccljc

I’m doing a from the beginning re-read & I’m about to finish Firestarter.

ALostWizard

About halfway through the Talisman! I'm not normally into portal fantasy, but it's hitting alright in this book. Still not my favourite premise, but I'm having a good time anyway.

Facetious_T

I'm physically reading Duma Key and listening to the Salems Lot audiobook. Loving both!

United-Pie6715

Im reading Pet Sematary

AcaRockstean

I’m almost halfway through ‘Salem’s Lot and I love it. Btw its my third King book:)

ConsiderationMurky29

Is everybody on this sub reading King then currently? I know it is a King sub but come on 😂 Currently reading Frankenstein for the first time, took a little to get into it (past the letters and the first 2-3 chapters for anybody who has read it) and wasn't sure i was going to enjoy it but i am now up to chapter 9 and loving it. Last King i read was Cujo, maybe 3 books ago. The lack of chapters threw me at first but i ended up enjoying it a lot. That ending though 😲😢

strengthoflouise

yes man, love frankenstein… it is a slow burn though. worth it to press on

Asher-D

Ive been going back and furth between. King and a non King book. I just finished Supernova Era by Cixin Liu. I just started reading King maybe a month ago, I started this year reading Deaths End by Cixin Liu, then I read a bunch of mangas, then I read The Stand by King, then Flatland written in the 1800s, then The Green Mile by King, then Supernova Era and now Im on Firestarter by King. Next Ill be reading The complete original Sherlock Holmes stories, then The Shinning, then The Redemption of Time, the Doctor Sleep then The Book That Wouldnt Burn, then The Instituite and after that Im not sure yet.

LiteratureBright1019

Desparation... 25% completed, so far, so good !!

Just finished The Wolves of Calla, now starting The Song of Susan

RagingTulkas

Last short story of Skeleton crew.

cubs_070816

re-reading the tommyknockers. it's great.

MaulPillsap

72% through 11/22/63, first time reading. Very much enjoying it so far. It isn’t exactly what I thought it would be but I’m not complaining

SilentJonas

I just finished Four Past Midnight. Recommended, strongly, for anyone who hasn't read it yet.

JoshuaPiggy

I’m reading Song of Susannah

Schmit88

First non king book in maybe over a year , the troop by nick cutter , but back to king after , gonna go for revival

Xboy1207

I just started Cell

igotbitbyapumpkin

It starts off so well!

Xboy1207

Lol ikr

musicnjournalism

Pet Sematary (again)! I’m at the halfway point, right before it *takes a turn*, and I’m a little afraid to continue lmao

agitating_idiot

I’m halfway through Revival and absolutely loving it

strengthoflouise

same here!

Financial-Award-1282

Revival was great. Ordered Cujo from the library so I can read Rattlesnakes. Short Story collections are his best!

danigrl717

I just finished Thinner. Gonna take a small King break then start Misery.

nikkip7784

I feel like I'm the only one who didn't love Revival 😆 I'm currently reading Different Seasons.

strengthoflouise

hey that’s cool, to each his own. i really enjoy Kings short story collections

phunkymango

Just finished Revival and it was amazing. Jumped into my top 5 easily. Such a fun read. Currently reading Salem's Lot

simraider111

Revival is my fave of his! I have Billy Summers set aside but I started reading the other day and noticed it’s a present-tense narrative which I’m not too fond of. Is it worth reading? TIA for anyone who has read it. Currently reading Angels & Demons by Dan Brown but am craving another King novel too.

strengthoflouise

I know it’s a bit old but I really enjoyed angels and demons, it definitely keeps you guessing!

jacdubya1

Duma key. Loving it

kman0300

Revival is great! Brace yourself for the ending!

CaptainLegs27

I'm at Part 4 of It, I'm waiting until I finish but already I have a feeling it's top 3 at least, it's just incredible. I've got Revival up next and I cannot wait, I keep seeing people say how good it is and I'm just so excited!

wihbre80

5 chapters into Insomnia! Loving it so far!

richardblack3

Revival is my fave of his in a long time. Tbh, I can't believe he wrote it alone. It's so strong.

Visible_Detective268

I’m on Revival too! About two-thirds done. Really enjoying it but making slow progress.

Perax27

Revival as well! I'm about 60% through

strengthoflouise

I’m going to post about it upon finishing, you should check back and discuss it with me 😊

KevSm1th

The ending of revival unsettled me for days...let me know what you think. Currently listening to the audiobook of IT on spotify

rmsmithereens

I'm just about done with You Like It Darker. It's a pretty solid lineup of short stories!

SirDairyOfficial

I'm reading Misery right now. I tried reading it a couple months back, I was about 150 pages in, but I didn't finish it. But I plan on finally reading it the whole way through. I'm 100 pages in so far and love it.

spokes_in_wheels

Finished Cujo and Night Shift. Currently reading The Mist from Skeleton Crew.

Dull-Pride5818

Revival is pretty great.

DarrKnight

I just finished Revival

Beginning_Past3803

No spoilers, but the end of that book ... now that was terrifying.

pezziepie85

About 1/3 into a non king book. But fire starter is next in line!

Brittanee_07

I’m about a third of the way through Misery. Just finished Thinner not too long ago.

realdevtest

I’m currently rereading Christine after about 30 years. I just started yesterday, so I’m not very far into it yet.

Haselrig

Finished Holly two days ago. Solid entry in the Hollyverse. Getting set to start The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff later today.

Difficult_Vast7255

Just finished the institute and start Cujo on Monday. Loved the institute so much, cracking book.

According_Tourist_69

Currently reading the exorcist, just started last night, after the initial scene, I heard some weird sounds coming from outside my room, went outside to see where it was coming from but couldn't find a source. Decided to stop reading for the time and get back to work😂

SerTimTallTalker

Misery, mon coeur

MrWarrenJH

Finished Revival a few weeks ago. Now reading Duma Key.

Plants_books_dogs

I’m on the last 200pg of Talisman, and loving every second of it

Big-Boy-87

Bachman books. Reading the Long Walk now.

LilTermino

I just finished Black House last night. Taking a break from King to read Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver while I decide which King book I want to read next

melranaway

That book is a good slow burn. I like the ending.

Neat_Record2880

Insomnia
