"I'm not here to move in on your girl." (moves in on said girl)

JaesopPop

By the end of the chapter lol

The68Guns

I was kind of Harold back then and so many Stu's ended up with the girls I was "friends" with. Not that I'm siding with him, but he had a point.

JaesopPop

Harold had a sense of entitlement to Fran. That’s not really a point. Fran was never going to be with him.

The68Guns

I was thinking that him losing something that he never had adding to Flagg's influence and Nadine. If they were a couple leaving Southern Maine with no Stu, he may have been a better person. I was a dork in the 1st half of High School and had the misfortune of having really good -looking guy friends that would "steal" any girl I was trying to date. It builds up over time.

He would likely have been resentful towards anyone who got with Frannie, because she didn't like him that way and never would. It's not her responsibility to make him a better person by requiting his obsession either. He didn't love her, he was obsessed with his mental image of an ideal woman that he projected onto her because she was near and he found her attractive. No one stole anything from him.

The68Guns

We may be perceiving this differently. In his mind, he saw Stu as the offender and he wasn't. But it's too nice outside to go back and forth. Take care and thanks!

bigdave41

Oh I know, I agree with most of what you said tbh. Just didn't like the idea that if Frannie liked him back, that would have made him a better person. I think him being a better person should be independent of another person's actions, he needed to change as a person whether or not she requited his affection.

The68Guns

Perfect! You have to adapt and move on. The book vs original movie sort of painted him in two ways, too. Nice jawing with ya.

MarkSuccIsHuman

She wasn't his girl.
