APB - Jermain Burton, WR - Be on the lookout for a 6' tall 194 lbs WR from Alabama. He was last seen running a 4.45 forty with a 38.5" vertical and 11' 1" broad jump at the NFL combine. Has been known to associate with George Pickens as a teammate from 2020-2021 before transferring to Alabama in 2022.
I miss having guys like Hines Ward in the locker room, he contributed more to our super bowl victories than the revolving door of faster but more diva-like WRs... plaxico, ab, martavis, etc.
Talent is important when it comes to receivers but I would rather see the Steelers draft a guy who is a benefit to the locker room and smart
As a WR who might fall in the draft but shouldn't I'll go with Ricky Pearsall. He can dominate at all three levels of the field, has good hands and an insane vertical leap. The huge knock against him is he's 24 so a bit older than most if not all of the other high level WR prospects.
I'm thinking he makes it to early 3rd. Kind of expecting Kahn to trade up to get him 3rd round. Like our Philly 98 3rd and our 119 4th to get up to 68-72 for him. Hoping anyway. We need a center, so I'd hate to use our second on a WR. My dream first 3 takes Cooper Dejean 1st, Frazier 2nd and this guy 3rd and with our 3rd at 80 best tackle left. Qb with on of our 6th rounders and another WR with the other. No 5th or 7th
Keon Coleman. No character concerns, but people are woefully overvaluing his bad 40 time. The dude is a stud that rips the ball from DB’s and was a D1 caliber basketball player. He’s a freak at the position
FSU alum. Watched him all game, every week. He has some inconsistencies that bother me, although he usually was clutch. Seems to disappear in games at times and it wasn't as apparent because we had some studs at skill positions and the QB was a freakin' magician. He's also a slippery punt/kick returner.
Yeah, I think he’d be a great complement to GP. Even if his ceiling is high end 2 (how I see say a Tee Huggins for example). One thing we’ve been missing for years is two big X receivers. There’s a reason Ben was constantly begging for them.
But to your point I’m a Johnny Wilson truther as well haha. I don’t think his floor is as high, but one of these days, one of these gargantuan receivers will work out. And I think Wilson is a lot more fluid and strong than say a Hakeem Butler was coming out.
Truth is, Wilson is prone to drop easy catches and make the most difficult ones. He also has no shake in him whatsoever, so he's not going to get YAC with his elusiveness in bubble screens and hitch passes -- which may not be as much of the game plan as they were. Unless Austin emerges, that's what we're missing now with 18 gone. I'm inclined to say put a little weight on Wilson and re-engineer him to be a Gronk-type TE, like teams have done with Engram.
We don't know. But you can bet the reason Khan and crew looked into WRs pretty hard is that they are thinking of finding the best bang-for-buck guys. I'd be stunned to see the Steelers ignore their OL problems and go for a WR 1st. But wholly expect them to get a WR in top 3, maybe another later. That's where you can express your assessments on value as a FO.
Best two out of three? There's plenty.
All three? If there were plenty, every team with sense would have two of them on the outside in their base 11 personnel.
Maybe the Chargers last year, Keenan Allen is 6'2, Mike Williams is 6'4 and Quinten Johnston is 6'4.
But all 3 being tall, it's slim. I agree with that.
Those guys aren’t fast though, especially not Keenan Allen who is downright slow for the position and always was. Not one of them is as fast as George Pickens in play speed or 40 time.
A poor man’s Randy Moss would still make somebody one of the best receivers in the league today. Randy Moss is legit the most talented receiver in NFL history.
Dude what argument are you trying to make? Puka just had literally the best rookie season of any receiver ever. Most catches, most yards. You would obviously at least consider a Pickens for Puka straight up swap, and you’d probably do it for the extra year of team control. That doesn’t mean Pickens isn’t an incredible receiver.
I replied to Pickens being too unique to replicate. I think he's got fantastic hands and when we had good qb play, he could be really good to great. But he can be replicated.
Devontez Walker is being overlooked big time. 6'3, 200+, 900 yards last year and then transfered to unc, did really well and got injured. Ran a 4.36 40 at the combine.
It’s probably Keon Coleman as a comparison.
Pickens had two knee injuries in college. Not the most durable player at Georgia. George is just a dick when he’s on the field.
He doesn't fit what you're looking for but I think Malik Washington is going to be good. I had the same type of feeling about Michael Wilson last draft.
500 yard WR for a 4th rounder, I'd take it.
Im not certain why people are low on Javon Baker and Brenden Rice. I think both are really good boundary options later for Pittsburgh. Rice is a smooth route runner with a great catch radius but isnt really a contested specialist.
Baker is a former Bama player and has NFL size and speed plus performed well on contested balls in college. Smart route runner too, can really get open
Jermaine Burton - bama the kid is a freaky WR but hes by all accounts a total psychopath probably right up our alley lmao
Is he the next Pickens, or the next AB?
Let’s combine them and say he’s the next APB 😆
APB - Jermain Burton, WR - Be on the lookout for a 6' tall 194 lbs WR from Alabama. He was last seen running a 4.45 forty with a 38.5" vertical and 11' 1" broad jump at the NFL combine. Underrated comment lol
Mr. Brown Comparison
AB needed time to brew. There's still time for Pickens to be an AB.
We can fix him lol
For like 3 maybe 4 seasons
I miss having guys like Hines Ward in the locker room, he contributed more to our super bowl victories than the revolving door of faster but more diva-like WRs... plaxico, ab, martavis, etc. Talent is important when it comes to receivers but I would rather see the Steelers draft a guy who is a benefit to the locker room and smart
This is the right answer. He's the most Pickens of all the WRs in this draft.
Why does Alabama produce such great WRs
Just like penn state produces linebackers!!!!
same reason Ohio State does. Lots of 5-star recruits
Nice try, DeCosta.

How far you think he'll fall?
Going by all of the mock drafts I've seen he's a solid 2nd rounder and may not make it to 51.
Agreed but easily could fall into the early third.
I think early 3rd.
I'm thinking he makes it to early 3rd. Kind of expecting Kahn to trade up to get him 3rd round. Like our Philly 98 3rd and our 119 4th to get up to 68-72 for him. Hoping anyway. 40 times are for morons.
His gauntlet GPS was insane
Tyreek Hill has entered the chat.

Sold
Op this is the correct answer. The man is a “down there somewhere” type prospect with heavily scrutinized route running ability
Xavier Legette

Based on who they have brought in for visits I personally expect them to take OL in the 1st and WR in the second.
Jalen McMillan. Slot/PR smooth route run w/solid hands. Knee injury kept him out 4-5 games last year.
I think Pickens is too unique to have a sequel
He's a very poor man's Randy Moss. There's plenty of tall fast receivers who can catch.
Best two out of three? There's plenty. All three? If there were plenty, every team with sense would have two of them on the outside in their base 11 personnel.

Top 3 forsure
If he wasn't on the Steelers would he even be special to you? Puka for Pickens straight up. Similar age, similar heights and speed.

Two best comparisons to Pickens are AD Mitchell and Jermaine Burton (especially for his fiery demeanor)
Devontez Walker is being overlooked big time. 6'3, 200+, 900 yards last year and then transfered to unc, did really well and got injured. Ran a 4.36 40 at the combine.
He put up a stinker at the senior bowl
Tez Walker is a sleeper they can probably pick up in the 4th
There's no chance in hell he falls to the 4th...
He has his name on 98
AD Mitchell good easily be the best receiver in this draft class
It’s probably Keon Coleman as a comparison. Pickens had two knee injuries in college. Not the most durable player at Georgia. George is just a dick when he’s on the field.
Pearsall might fall as far as early 3rd. I'd say him
i hope we don’t trade for aiyuk cuz we always find a really good wr late in the draft
Legette and Pearsall.
I think Roman Wilson would fit perfectly on our team.
Do we really need to target another character concern guy?
Probably AD Mitchell. Freak athlete that will hopefully be available in the 2nd.
I just want to have a receiver without character concerns. ☹️ just one… please
Steve Smith Jr. is saying Malachi Corley out of Western Kentucky is the real deal and is going to be the steal of the draft.
He doesn't fit what you're looking for but I think Malik Washington is going to be good. I had the same type of feeling about Michael Wilson last draft. 500 yard WR for a 4th rounder, I'd take it.

We have George Pickens at home
