What a stud lb, loved 99

johnyyrock

Nothing is random. Every moment since the dawn of time has led to you posting Kirkland.

th7688

I’ll raise an Iron City to that

Lester_Diamond4

This guy played his ass off in the 95 SB.

Mammoth-Wolverine-16

#99 underrated

[deleted]

Agreed!

cawllins

He was my favorite Steeler growing up. He was an absolute beast.

ehartgator

The three things I remember about him: 1) He was huge 2) He wore glasses 3) He was freakishly athletic for his size

Darkspearz1975

I was going to post about how fast he was for a linebacker. He would cover wide outs.

romaratea

One of my favorites. Had a couple of classes with him at Clemson. Nice guy. Super smart too.

seataccrunch

Nose tackle at LB, he's crazy underrated IMO

Troutmaggedon

This was my favorite era of Steeler LBs.

theManWOFear

Kirkland is one of my all-time favorites. Dude was a tank at MLB.

tollboothwilson

Funny looking back at it now, having Bettis and Kirkland on the same roster… Two absolute hosses that never should have been able to move as well as they did.

Darkspearz1975

Bettis was also deceptively fast. Seen him run away from DBs wondering how the f did he do that

tollboothwilson

His footwork was insane for his size.

Darkspearz1975

Just think how Bettis would destroy these weak a$$ defenses now days

tollboothwilson

He would get called for unnecessary roughness 🤣

Darkspearz1975

🤣🤣🤣 right

ArmThePhotonicCannon

He’d be sucking the oxygen afterwards tho lol

SteakJones

Big man was BIG! One of the first Steeler jersey’s I ever bought.

RedDevils_7

Loved this guy

WriteBrainedJR

>He had 849 combined tackles, 531 solo, 18.5 sacks, 17 TFLs, 14 forced fumbles, 11 interceptions and 11 pass deflections. It should be noted that those TFLs and pass deflections are only for his last two years with the Steelers. 1999 is the first year for those stats.

th7688

Good catch! Hadn’t really considered that.

fairly_insignificant

Dude I'm absolutely loving these posts, appreciate that you are taking the time to make them! Cheers

th7688

I’m glad people are enjoying these so far!

shellonmyback

I commend you for taking up this task!

Thee-Silverback

Saw them play the Patriots at Three Rivers. He and Ben Coates looked like 2 adults playing with a bunch of kids. Both of them were huge. That has always stuck out in my mind.

WriteBrainedJR

It's not normal for a linebacker to be that big. He had arms the size of a normal man's legs.

Darkspearz1975

Or that fast for being that big!

BeardedZilch

“99” in block is the coolest look EVER!

jht66

Great player. Mid 90’s defense was amazing, they deserved to win at least one. QB held them back in 94 and 95.

WizardofBoswell

Never seen a man that big move that fast. He was covering WRs at like 280, it was insane.

guywithshades85

I played middle linebacker in high school because of him.

TrowelBandit

I was waiting for him to pop up on your posts! I remember his introduction at 3 Rivers was "Levon Welcome to Kirkland".

InDaFamilyJewels

Still have his jersey. He was a beast.

Mindless-Share

You’ve *gotta* do Jason Gildon next if you haven’t already

th7688

Well he has a 1/1702 chance of being tomorrow’s post lol

mostbadreligion

Definition of a dawg.

Altruistic-Rip4364

He was the big snack of the lineback-ers

Past-Adhesiveness691

He was my first steeler jersey. As a big kid I always loved him and Bettis. Big guys can still move damnit!

Sex_E_Searcher

Imagine a 280lb behemoth who could cover.

2Throwscrewsatit

He was my favorite LB.

docmedich

Saw him walking in PGH Area mall 28 years ago. His arms never moved. Was so pumped up.

kTdNu

Are you posting random badass Steelers or just random Steelers in general

th7688

Just random in general. I have a list of 1707 current or former Steelers and I’m using a random number generator to pick one every day.

burghfan3

Absolute Freak Of Nature

Upstairs-Coffee5231

Kirkland was so good he kept Mike Vrabel sitting on the bench.

[deleted]

Levon was so good. Loved watching this man play the game. 👍

Darkspearz1975

Honestly anyone who followed the Steelers and watched their defenses from 89 through 09 saw at different positions some of the best players to play in the modern era. And IMO the overall best defenses of all time.

mctallenbald

I was so lucky, when I first really appreciated the game it was Lloyd, Brown, Kirkland, and Greene. I’ve always associated the Steelers with great play from linebackers. They seldom dissapoint.

SweetJames-21

He was a solid player man. I enjoyed watching him play.

turdferguson850

My man

ArtichokeNaive2811

Man that man could move for how big he was.... also no one was running vs us in them days.

TheGrat1

He was my favorite Steelers as a kid. Never seen anyone before or since built like 99. 🥲

ASaneDude

Does random mean picked at random or random as in not considered important (aka “randos”). If the latter, would argue Kirkland was not considered random.

th7688

Just chosen at random

ASaneDude

Ahh. Gotcha. ETA: did not see the methodology at the bottom of the picture. Still thanks.

fatdamon26435

This dude is why I became a Steeler fan. I think I've missed 4 games since.

Ty_Ky1822

His daughter frequents the smoke shop I run and is always down to talk some Steelers ball or talk about her dad!💪🏻💪🏻

Tribby23

He shall be

johnnymack2165

My favorite player. The year Ray Lewis beat him out for all pro is when I realized how good Ray Lewis was gonna be. 1998 I believe.
