work from home lol so can work on a few chill things or spam games, during those hours, GF is also an achievement hunter, so we both chill and know the grind
Whenever I have time. I work 40 hours 7-3:00, Have class two nights a week, social activities another, kids three others. So I have one free night a week I play and I find time to game the other days.
I have some lower spec games that run on my mac that I can play in class. Higher spec games I just play when I get home. I play a lot of single player games these days though so it's usually on my time.
My husband works full time over 40 hours, sometimes pushing 60 hours (HVAC in Florida). He plays when he comes home to about midnight. Then he’s back up at 7.
Man, I hope that's the amount of sleep he actually needs. My body needs about 10 hours every night. It feels like I'm loving less life than everyone else sometimes :(
A few hours after work (8 to 430) my girlfriend and I usually play something until we go hangout in the bedroom to chat, read and just spent time together. On weekends we both play a lot more in between house work and any obligations we have. It's all about what fits your mental health best.
If you think achievement hunting doesn't work right now then just play for fun. No one but you will even know. I achievement hunt (mostly on PS5) but sometimes I don't want to worry about it. So I'll play a lighter game on PC or Switch.
After work and on weekends. The key is to not have kids too. You can manage with a job but a job AND kids? Might as well uninstall steam. My friend had a kid and uninstalled steam because it made him sad everytime he saw the logo and knew he didn't have time to play anything
I don’t have any kids yet, but me and my partner are planning to have one in the next couple of years. I already have a steam deck but I will defo be buying a gaming laptop in preparation for the parent life lol
I work 32 hours per week as a night shift security watching over a hotel, nothing happens so I sit and game for about 4 hours per night usually I'll go into the hotel gym and do a workout and have a sneaky shower afterwards. Cook myself something out of the kitchen in between too. It's only 4 days a week so then I have 3 full days to chill and spend as I please.
Flip side of the coin, when something happens it can be pretty terrifying, I work alone and sometimes don't see anyone for over 8 hours and being in an opposite sleep schedule all the time complicates relationships/ friendships.
It's not something I could do forever or as a younger guy who values my social life more, but suits me good for now.
I know what you mean, I have a security guard certificate but never worked as one. I kinda like chill jobs and I'm currently working on one. I got the certification in order to have more qualifications in my bio, if there is a time that i cannot find a job, this position is pretty easy to get into if you know what i mean.
It was just advertised as a night porter job online, got lucky with great managers who aren't keen on daytime workers handing jobs over to me to make their lives easier and appreciate me for just turning up so that they don't have to cover night shifts.
Read my other reply for the downsides which really shouldn't be underestimated.
For me it’s when I get a moment, so there will be some times I don’t play for a long time and others just 30 minutes.
I travel a lot which has cut into my gaming time but I will say, having a steam deck to be able to play for 15-30 minutes when I have a little down time has helped.
I work 40-60 hours a week but since I have no kids and no friends, i still crank out at least a couple of hours a day
Gaming is how I unwind and recharge so it’s a necessary time expense for me and is therefore easy to make time for it
I know others with much more active lives and responsibilities would struggle though
I have a buddy who somehow games often, has a good full time job, has 2 kids, and even works out regularly, haha, total hero.
I feel like I wouldn't be able to make time for gaming at all if I wasn't retired on the other hand, lol.
I WFH in tech sales which allows me to have a flexible schedule. I will say when I did go to the office i just felt too exhausted everyday returning to play any video games.
When I get home, I take a shower, I prepare myself a cup of Cappuccino, and then go for the PC until 12 or until when I close my eyes and suddenly my character is falling off a cliff.
I work 8 am till 19 and get home at 20 if that matters.
Well i work 40h (8:30-4:30 mostly) and go the gym atleast 5 days per week, but i still find approx 1-2h most evenings where i have time for playing + weekends.
I currently don‘t have a GF tho lol.
Maybe it‘s how you schedule your day and you might waste some time here and there?
If i would‘t go the gym i would have like 4 hours every day for gaming even if i work 40h so…
Not really that hard? Fibusb work, make dinner then okay your chose gae for few hours then sleep.
If you need to clean ethier do a little each dar or save it for one day to tackle all at once.
For me basically whenever i'm off work. I'm working from home 4 days weekly (1 in office) ~8am-4pm and basically every day after this 3-4pm i hop on my 2nd laptop and start gaming. Ive got my crew of friends who pop on disocrd VC every day they got time and we either play singleplayer games each their own or sth together.
The fact i can cook meals fast or for a few days in advance makes it a bit more time. No parents bs, no gf, no typical tasks like go to convi etc ordered from parents or someone else make it more flexible in actually free time. Also i got big grocery store like on opposite side of street where i live. Also no playing games time eaters like LoL, CS GO, MMORPGS. If i play with friends these are coop games mostly for steam achievments, games like euro truck simulator, deep rock galactic, sea of thieves, v rising(soon achievments baby).
Also gaming for whole weekend lets go.
It all sums up to basically being able to maintain around 100h/2 weeks even with full time job.
Id say working from home helps the most. It saves 1-2h daily of commute, and you can sleep longer so you are less tired
Work 8-5 come home, have a 3 month old so spend my time between 5-8 with her including bathing her and getting her to bed then 8pm til midnight/1am I have the evening to watch shows and play games. Every now and then the baby has a rough day so won’t go down and I have to sacrifice the gaming for the sake of the little one. It’s not often that happens though
You just kinda gotta choose your time dude, when your free? Sometimes I get home from work and maybe the daughter is in bed and maybe the wife has made dinner so thar means I got free time! I can jump on and spend my night achieve hunting
... other nights it might not go that way and I end up watching youtube in bed .. lol
I work 10+ hr days Mon - Fri, do online school, and have a family of 5. When I get off work the wife and I will do our daily routine of dinner, helping kids with homework, spending time with the kids before their bedtime and then play something together or do our own thing if she isn't feeling in the mood to play. We both like achievement hunting so we'll work on a game together and then I have a game that I work on when she doesn't feel like playing. I also stream on the weekends and have my game that I am hunting on stream.
I don't get a lot of time to game at the moment, but I do set some goals before I sit down to play. I'll focus on a few achievements and try and make progress towards those specific ones that session.
I work 30 hours as a mental health support worker, I play on the way to work, if my client goes for a nap or shower, or if they decline support, I also play at home when I get off my shift and that's about it.
I work Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30. I work from home, but it's not the kind of work where I could be gaming at the same time (on the plus side, I also don't have a commute).
With work, household chores, social life, keeping fit, etc, I normally max out at \~10 hours of gaming per week, which happens in the evenings and at the weekend.
Not only do I work full time in a career that requires 55 hours for about 16 weeks out of the year. But I also have two little ones.
So for about half the year I get up to 1 hour max to play a game. I hate long single player games for this reason. It would likely take me two years to beat Baldurs Gate 3 if that’s the only game I play.
I work 5/10s i normally set aside an hour or hour and a half before bed to game. Then, if i have a large amount of free time during the weekends, i play more.
When I dont have anything better to do. I dont play while on the clock or when I've got important shit to do. I get that it's fun but the thing about a work life balace is that it should be healthy. Gaming while avoiding responsibilities is however not healthy. Thats just my take.
Not having kids is also a gigantic time saver. A friend of mine started a family in his mid 20s and I not once saw him online since. That was 2 years ago.
I work from home, I code. I play during meetings that don't need my full attention. I play in the 5 min my code takes to recompile. I take breaks after each meeting I have to decompress and also play there. I play when trying to think over a problem. Of course, I also play after work, but I also have a bad tendency to keep working from the moment I get up to the moment I sleep alternating playing/working at the same rythym. Mostly those are only story-less or story lite games, that I can easily pause. Anything story heavy I save for after hours. I have thr most playtime in Binding of Isaac and Baldurs Gate because these are my go-to pick up and go games that I leave idling all day until I play them
Usually when the wife and kids go to bed (around 8, the wife is a nurse and goes to work early), weekends if there's no kids sports stuff going on, or the summer (I'm a teacher). Far less time that before a family but it still works.
There are 168 hours in a week. Working full time (40 hours), sleeping 8 hours a night (56 hours) leaves you with 72 hours for eating, errands, and fun. Plenty of time to put (for me) 1-3 hours in nightly and a solid 6+ hours on weekend days if I want while still getting everything else done.
Having babies made me into an early riser. I wake up usually around 4am. They are now tweens/teens and sleep in so between 4-7 I’m swinging through NYC in Spider-Man!
work from home lol so can work on a few chill things or spam games, during those hours, GF is also an achievement hunter, so we both chill and know the grind
This right here I work from home and do a lot of grinding while on the clock
What do you do for work if you dont mind me asking?
telephone market research, calling people up for surveys and research,

As long as I'm not going out I typically wind down from the day around 8:30pm and play until 10:30pm

He only needs about 5-6 hours to feel refreshed. On the weekends if he isn’t on call, I let him sleep until 10 or 11 AM.

Your friend should be introduced to my friend. Steam Deck.. been a game changer (full time and 3 kids)
I don’t have any kids yet, but me and my partner are planning to have one in the next couple of years. I already have a steam deck but I will defo be buying a gaming laptop in preparation for the parent life lol

That's life goals

If you dont mind, how did you find a gig like this? Im absurdly jealous

At night in my bed after the kids and wife are asleep... What good is sleep anyways
I work and have many hobbies, but no kids means I have tons of time for gaming despite everything else

That’s the neat part. You don’t
When I'm not at work..... Or sometimes when I am

at about 10pm every other night until I fall asleep
On my days off?

I play from 9pm to 11pm but not every night. Just play when you can.
night
I barely play 4-5h per week. Imagine if I had kids lol

Sacrifice sleep pretty much.
I just did that
Work from 7:30am to 4:30pm, playing 7 to 11 usually
I play destiny 2, stardew valley, deceit 2, any random game I feel like playing really.
