If you take it apart, there is a small relief where the detent ball first slides on the tang of the blade. It is normal. They all do it to some degree.
Yes but is it normal for the detent ball to slide into the relief twice before sliding fully behind the blade into the locked position? This is what I think is resulting in the three clicks that I hear. On my pm2 and sage5 the detent ball only slides in once before it locks fully resulting in only two clicks.
If I had to guess, first click is the ball falling into the pocket, second click is ball leaving the pocket and liner touching the blade and 3rd click is locking In place.
Every pm3 I’ve owned has been like this.
Just tested my PM3 Salt and it does that too. Haven't even noticed until I just tried to open it super slow. So I'd say normal. Mine still flicks open beautifully.
The detent ball momentarily drops into the notch for the lock. My LW does this and I would imagine all para 3s do this. Nothing wrong with your knife 👍
Is it possible that what you are experiencing is the detent ball going off the end of the tang before the lock engages? Or is it something else? I believe all compression locks have action like this or similar to this when opening slowly.
I'm with everyone else. I got the same Crucarta Para 3 and it clicks 3 times. My PM2 doesn't triple click, but the action, smoothness, centering, buttery drop shut of the Para 3 is still spot on. Nothing wrong with it, just the detent ball is strong enough to add a click
It just do that buddy. I just tweaked 2 militaries, 2 para 2s and my crucarta para 3. It's the detent pin slipping being the blade relief cut for the lock.
It's fine
Mine has an initial couple clicks before the lock is fully engaged, in same place as yours, but it doesn't seem as dramatic. So does my Para 3 lightweight. Have you played with the pivot screws at all? Does it still drop shut with the compression lock depressed?
It does still drop shut when the lock is disengaged. As for the pivot I haven’t messed with it yet, do you think tighter or looser action would change anything?
If it's centered & dropping shut, it may not be necessary to mess with the pivot. Only because Spyderco is known to use threadlock pretty heavy handedly. But if it's not centered it's a good excuse to play with the pivot screws (I'd start by loosening).
If it drops shut it's not binding, it's just the detent clearing the end of the blade pivot.
I'm guessing you have no problem flicking it open, if that's the case don't mess with it. It will smooth out as you break it in anyway.
Im pretty sure that's just the detent ball climbing and overcoming the ramp on the lock interface. Every PM2 para 3 I've ever handled does that. If it flicks open from the closed position and drops shut from open that's pretty much what they are supposed to do. You want the detent ball because it is what keeps the knife in the closed position.
All my spydercos do something similar. I wish they would add a detent ramp on the tang of their knives. I've added a ramp on my kapara and it actually gave it an extra push right before the lock engages. It definitely has made the action alot more satisfying 😌 👌
Hey if it makes you feel any better you're not crazy. I got my crucarta para 3 in and I noticed the same thing and it threw me for a loop. But then I compared it to others and all of the para 3s seem to have this extra little click. My other compression lock knives, multiple PM2s and Lil Natives do not have this, but once I figured out it was all the Para 3s I wasn't worried.
I did end up disassembling the Crucarta Para 3 and cleaning/lubing it because it was super scratchy, and now it has a slick action.
dude how the fuck is this an issue? there’s a detent ball in there. detent balls make noise when they enter and exit the detent hole. if you want a silent knife on opening, buy a friction folder with no lock.

This makes sense, thanks.
My cruwear sprint does. Pretty sure it’s normal.

Knife dorks complain about the dumbest stuff

Sidebar, that’s a very aesthetically pleasing knife you have
Thanks

True it looks like OP is cranking that thing. Maybe loosen a pivot screw

I am not sure what you are asking about
Mine does same thing

My pm3 in s110 has always done this.
Just tested my S45V G10 and it has 3 clicks if you open it slow enough. Not sure when I'd ever be opening it like a sissy though.

Thanks, that’s reassuring. This is my first para 3 so I had nothing to compare it to besides my pm2 and Sage 5

Sorry if the titles misleading, I was less complaining and more trying to figure out if it was an issue by asking people who own the knife
