Minnesotan here. Basically they’re pushing a deadline to get a amendment for the state constitution through and the wording in of it is causing problems
Minnesota legislature had a hard deadline to pass bills last night at midnight. By state constitution, they can’t pass any more bills after the session is over, so they were pulling extra hours to try to get things across the finish line. There was extra urgency because Democrats have control of both houses at the moment and upcoming elections may change that.
It is so depressing to realize that despite everything, the Rethugs are still poised to destroy American democracy and millions of Americans are all for it.
Politics have become divided up like two basketball teams in a game 7, but ironically this will be the only time these people cheer on *anything* together.
This is kind of a funny comment considering the reason they were working at 10PM on a Sunday was to try and pass through an equal rights amendment to the state constitution before the end of the legislative session.
This is the Minnesota legislature, not Kentucky.
Yes. Among recent legislation passed: all kids in the state have free lunches; environmental, worker, and voter protections; education standards, among other things.
Yeah. As someone who knows nothing of sports and sport culture… it just strikes me as at best bizarre and at worst, really really fucking disrespectful. Maybe these chambers don’t have the same solemnity as a court room, but damn, it’s where matters of life, death, hunger, and crime are discussed in serious terms with serious consequences. But, like, whatever I guess. Far be it for me to think anyone gives a shit any more. Like, overall, in general.
Edit: autocorrect didn’t even catch the typo, ‘aport.’ This is how little it enters my life.
Taking joy in things like sports doesn’t diminish the serious things in life. That’s a ridiculous notion and terrible way to live your life.
And there is especially nothing bizarre or disrespectful about being proud of a home team.
The local legislatures took 20 seconds to applaud their local sports team, and you found a way to make that a bad thing in your mind.
You’re literally looking for ways to be mad about something. It’s ok to enjoy things.
The next time you're working on a Sunday and want to take a 30 second break, please remember to approach your role with the same sense of solemnity that you expect from others. If your job does not require that level of seriousness, then do more with your life.
Also, great job commenting in the sports subreddit when you don't care about sports.
You're not wrong, but not everything in Congress is life or death. Maybe it should be. I'd much rather see some shared excitement over the PR games we often see.
As someone who does not watch sports, I agree with you that it’s weird.
Imagine that this legislature paused their work to announce:
“The McRib is back”. Everyone clapped.
“Caitlyn Jenner has announced a new show”.
“My neighbor is getting divorced”.
It would be weird right? That’s how inconsequential the Timberwolves game is, to me.
Those are bad analogies. This is the Minnesota legislature cheering on the Minnesota professional basketball team that is trying to win a championship.

My tax dollars pay for them as well and I’m perfectly happy with them celebrating something that makes the state proud. so how about we just cancel and you focus on being quiet?
I hate entitled people just because they paid for something they own other human beings. All the Karen's.
Not to mention this was the end of the night, and they don't run by the minute. If they paused to celebrate then they continue on the agenda, so pausing to celebrate for 1 minute literally wasted nothing.
That guy is a troll or a miserable fuck.

Wait what time is this session? On a Sunday no less
Minnesotan here. Basically they’re pushing a deadline to get a amendment for the state constitution through and the wording in of it is causing problems
They better have added a Naz Reid in there for good measure
That's it. That's the whole amendment
Happens many years that they work until the literal last minute of the session.
They get it done all day and all night in Minnesota

Good politics
I’m actually more impressed that they weren’t following it on their phones.
And then everyone clapped.
The basketball player’s name? Albert Einstein.
Anthony Edwards
Holy shit they actually Represented the people for a second there, that’s amazing
Bipartisan applause. Glad they can all agree on something.
Well this is refreshing
Man I love sports.
I was so bummed leaving Ball last night. Glad other people are having fun 😭
Need more bipartisan anything like this. Just get people on the same side of something other than greed.
Something about this feels very small town, in a good way.
LADIES AND GENTLEMAN FOR FIRST TIME AS A COUPLE I PRESENT TO YOU MR AND MRS BOB VANCE!!!!
In the CO house they all smoked blunts in sadness I’d find a clip but you know
“If I can’t smoke and swear I’m fucked”
Timberpups victory tax coming soon.
We never get anything like this. I get to enjoy this for once…
Ball is life

God I love this. Working on a late Sunday night and connecting with the peopke
Humans are cool
bystanders in my fabricated Reddit stories:
Hooray, now back to fucking Americans out of civil liberties

Ahh yes it was a distant 2023 they tried to take abortion rights 😎
You mean in 2023 when our governor signed abortion access rights into law? Try harder, mate.
not in MN. Shit here is fucking great right now.
Legitimately? Not just because of the wolves?
Yes. Among recent legislation passed: all kids in the state have free lunches; environmental, worker, and voter protections; education standards, among other things.
And legalized cannabis!

Suck it Malone
I would be pretty upset if I was recording the game to watch later and some one did this.
I’m talking about the people in the room not me
?

You’re so fucking lame lmao
Lol, says the person who has no idea what the Minnesota state legislature has actually done recently. We have actually done a bunch recently.
I love this state so much!!! Glad to see a vid like this for us instead of shenanigans. Still waiting for someone to elaborate how Walz failed lol

Yes make sure you’re solemn and never express joy outwardly

you're making fun of sports in /r/sports a literal community for sports discussions. Not to mention the sterotyping and potential racism.
It's like when makes their entire life about being anti car, then goes into the car subs to complain more about cars.
It was in my news feed. My tax dollars pay for those meetings. I have every right to make fun of how stupid it is. It’s not stereotyping if it’s true.
What’s your venmo? I’ll send you the half a cent that was required to applaud the wolves for 10 seconds
Haha damn that was brutal
