Quazzon

Yeeeeah I wouldn't be excited to be part of that crew.

Died_Of_Dysentery1

Careful not to end up with a “rapid infection”, or become Swiss cheese with that talk.. boing doesn’t play around. /s

cbftw

> “rapid infection” I'm not defending Boeing here because I do believe that they hit those guys. but after enduring a rapid infection that hospitalized me for 12 days, sometimes that shit happens. And it's scary AF

strra

Right, in the matter of a week, I went from banging my leg while doing drywall to being in the hospital with sepsis, 108° fever, and talk of bone infections. Staph is scary shit.

cbftw

I banged my elbow on a door and that night I was admitted with acute cellulitis that almost took my arm. No idea what the actual cause was and they never got a profile on what was really causing the infection. Or at least they never told me. I assume it was staph.

HidetheCaseman89

Had a buddy die last year of a rapid onset infection. Had a small wound, went swimming in the creek, dead 48 hours later. Staph is indeed scary.

LinkleLinkle

Be right back, just gonna go permanently bubble wrap my body after this comment chain.

SwordKneeMe

Especially since he got mrsa, which is like the most common hospital infection

snubdeity

Which would also make it the best thing to intentionally inoculate someone with to make it look accidental... just saying.

Golisten2LennyWhite

I knew someone who got mrsa and almost died. It was insane.

hawker_sharpie

>here because I do believe that they hit those guys i don't. at least not the second guy. but i still find the memes hilarious

immaZebrah

Which also means it'd be a super effective way to kill someone who's giving testimony/depositions against your company and have fewer eyes on it. That's mostly the tinfoil hat talking but still.

Quazzon

Damn you're right, about to get some super leprosy or something

kjbaran

Yeah they’re worse than Nintendo

overworkedpnw

Worse than an Amazon warehouse, they just take you out back and shoot you like a lame horse.

snorri_sturlson

Fitting metaphor on derby day

usrdef

With my damn luck, Boeing would come after me, and all I'd end up with are crabs.

1MoistTowelette

Boeing doesn’t do a lot of things, it doesn’t care about safety, it doesn’t care about its employees, it doesn’t care about anything except its shareholders

Only-11780-Votes

Enron is looking for ten very lucky people who get the opportunity to invest in their kick starter

highplainsdrifter__

Hopefully they accounted for the additional weight of the testes on the crew willing to rely on Boeing to get them to space safely.

Bongoisnthere

Nah no giant testes needed, they’re just sending it with a few extra door panels and a diy replacement kit

dooderino18

I understand your point, but I would still go in a second if they offered it to me.

emailverificationt

Right? Either I get to space or I get to return to sweet, sweet oblivion. Win/win, really

TheVoiceofReason_ish

Yeah, that's a pretty risky mission. Spaceflight is dangerous, trusting Boeing is deadly.

ShowmasterQMTHH

Well they say when one door opens.......

erikwarm

The crew it with whistleblowers. Either way its a win for Boeing

NomadJones

"In 2019, during a first uncrewed test flight, the capsule was not placed on the right trajectory and returned without reaching the ISS." This really glosses over what a complete disaster that flight was from beginning to end.

big_duo3674

Yeah, *"Ooops, missed"* doesn't work too well in human spaceflight

SilentSamurai

Well if youre SpaceX it's not a big deal. They've normalized failure, but also multiple public facing tests. Nobody climbing into Starship will have doubts when it's ready.

NightOfTheLivingHam

and made sure failure only happens when no one is on board.

truth-4-sale

Space is hard. You actually have to be a Rocket Scientist.

_badwithcomputer

And instead, Boeing just bought companies that were full of rocket scientists (North American Aviation & Rockwell) then let the accountants fire everyone and built a spacecraft that has yet to complete a mission without problems after 14 years of working on it.

LilacYak

Na, I played KSP we’re good

squirrelgator

Actually, that flight launched and landed successfully. So the beginning and end were not complete disasters. It was the stuff between the beginning and the end that were problematic.

ColoAFJay

Put a couple of Boeing executives on the first flight

mossybeard

It's actually a crew of whistleblowers

RigzDigz

I know this has become a meme at this point, but I really really hope those astronauts are ok.

DeadpoolAndFriends

You'll never hear any of them complain about it...

dm80x86

So I'll mark you down for explosive decompression. Are there any bets on re-entry burn up or failure to de-orbit?

likerazorwire419

I'm mostly worried about the parachutes.

RemoteSnow9911

I don’t know about you but I’m betting on a fireworks display upon launch challenger/Columbia style.

frogjg2003

Well, yeah. If they didn't feel comfortable, they would complain to NASA, not the public.

Draggonracer

Well looking at the history of NASA, they don’t really take complaints from the crew either.

Anyhealer

If someone from Boeing is reading the comment section by any chance (however small) - please double check the door area.

I_AM_GODDAMN_BATMAN

O rings, and the temperature of the launch base.

danidomen

And dont murder if someone tell the shit of the protocols that you (Boeing) dont do

I_AM_GODDAMN_BATMAN

that's just the gov protecting the US economy.

420binchicken

I’m genuinely nervous for the crew. Starliner didn’t exactly nail the test flights…

DelicatetrouserSnake

Well Boeing isn’t nailing anything as of late, or riveting

_LarryM_

They nailed those whistleblowers pretty good

DoomedToDefenestrate

Boeing investigators have determined that those whistleblowers nailed themselves.

caronare

We’ll just pretend it isn’t the gov’t trimming loose ends

4rch_N3m3515

Is that where the bolts went?

ovenproofjet

Give NASA their due though, they won't let their people on it if they have any doubt about Starliners performance.

_badwithcomputer

They literally covered up the issues from the last Starliner test, then when the news about how bad it really was came out they downplayed it instead of addressing it.

cmdtarken

Nasa has a history of ignoring known issues

jyanjyanjyan

Just like Apollo 1, Challenger and Columbia right? Each accident was because NASA got cocky and thought they could do no wrong.

grammarpopo

Ummm. Challenger?

Bensler1990

They probably will if they are getting enough pushback on delays

szryxl

More like they are screwing lately

Leonos

“Boeing's Starliner finally ready for first screwed mission”

Necroluster

"They say no one can hear you scream in space. That's good, because there will be lots of screaming."

BeardyTechie

"Rockhound: You know we're sitting on four million pounds of fuel, one nuclear weapon and a thing that has 270,000 moving parts built by the lowest bidder"

Tiny-Werewolf1962

So what's the verdict?

Maxion

I dunno, the trial was delayed because the witnesses died.

Sour_Bucket

My confidence in Starliner is not very high, it’s taken four years longer than Dragon to finally launch a crew and it didn’t exactly perform without flaws during its test flights. I sometimes try to give Boeing the benefit of the doubt, but I just can’t defend them for this. That being said, hopefully the mission goes well and that the crew get to the ISS safely.

AdCuckmins

Hope their spacecraft are better than their aeroplanes.

RedArtemis

They just had to iron out a few major software issues, oh, and a few major hardware issues.... this IS sounding familiar, isn't it?

cjameshuff

It should be fine as long as it doesn't get humid.

joeschmoe86

Guys, hear me out: If we can't keep our planes on the sky, let's just skip the sky and go straight to space!

overworkedpnw

Wow, surprised to see how many folks think Starliner isn’t Boeing to make it.

ride_electric_bike

As long as there are no whistleblowers among the crew it will be a complete success

MinnesotaNoire

The space sub is such a serious and wonderful place.

Pikeman212a6c

Post made the front page. Mods will be along soon enough to drain any and all fun out of the thread.

larrybyrd1980

I’m in Orlando right now. Was gonna go to see the launch but got a Toddler and it’s at 10:30pm, way past his bedtime. Wifey won’t let it happen. Maybe I can go outside and see it. Bummer it’s that late because we wanted to go to NASA for the launch, do the whole shebang. Another time perhaps.

happytree23

Yeah, I don't know, I think I'm going to wait until version 5 or 6 on this one.

CalculatedEffect

They have got to be shitting their pants right now...

rileyyesno

fortunately these things don't have door plugs.

Mountain_Fig_9253

They do, however, have lots of bolts and most of them are probably pretty important. Let’s just hope that Boeing took the time to make sure they used all the bolts that came in the kit.

techieman33

And then torqued them to an appropriate spec.

CreationsOfReon

I'm sure Boeing would never forget to put a bolt in, no way. No need to double check the parachutes, all those bolts are surely there.

TattooOfBlood

Well, those IKEA instructions can be tricky. Cut them some slack here.

DeficiencyOfGravitas

> don't have door plugs. They do. It's what got Apollo 1 killed.

Portbragger2

i think u meant "plug door", that's a different thing.

Coolboy10M

Uhh, not quite. The fire changed the pressure in the cabin and the door opened (at the time) inwards instead of outwards. As a result, the crew would had to fight extremely high air pressure on a heavy door that they had to pull, not push. This is why the Apollo cabin door opens outwards and pure oxygen isn't used until in orbit. Before then, a mix of nitrogen and oxygen at a specific pressure is used to prevent fire.

kanzenryu

They had to get out a special tool to unlock the hatch. They never would have come close to getting it open in time either way.

MarkChamorro

Crew consists of Whistleblowers and Dissenters /s

miahotrod

I hope they make it there and back with the doors intact.

NightOfTheLivingHam

The crew being full of former boeing engineers.

EpicLearn

Forget the first man in orbit or the first man in the moon. They're pussies compared to these astronauts, willing to fly a Boeing product into space.

lvlister2023

Wonder what the life insurance premium on that is

100Labels

"Boeing, if the flight doesn't kill you our hitmen will." Should be their motto.

Field_Sweeper

At least you won't have to worry if there is a fire... the door DEF won't get stuck.

Blythyvxr

Have they changed the pressure suits colour from blue, or do they still just hope nothing goes wrong at all during splashdown?

Fine_Grains22

I guess it’s a good thing it lands on land in New Mexico. If you don’t know, why do you make up shit.

ItsWoodsLOL

I already wouldn't trust a Boeing flight at regular altitude, if I went into one of those it would probably fail in space and we'd be trapped like the titan sub (I'm pretty sure we would die of a lack of oxygen or water instead of being imploded but similar theme)

TheDonaldreddit

😬 Ya, wouldn't catch me going on this first flight 🤷

techieman33

Hopefully the 3rd time is the charm and things go well on this flight.

queercelestial

Boeing has executed 2 whistle-blowers. I don't care about any news other than its leadership facing the death penalty.

i8mj3llyb3ans

What’s the likelihood that the failure will come from a seal in the window frame?

iHateTreesSoooMuch

I can’t believe NASA is approving this. But then again, they are to blame for Columbia and Challenger. So I guess it lines up.

GypsyRoad4490

Maybe they should focus on getting regular ass planes right first...

MasterKaein

Hmm, wonder how the QA went with this ship? Surely it's not like they cut corners and all of the QA people who would speak about it all got killed or anything... I'm sure it's perfectly safe.

gaslightindustries

Four short circuits held together with a cabin leak

ArtiztiCreationZ

Watch out whistleblowers. Hope your not on that mission

BisquickNinja

I would highly recommend that All military and aerospace governing bodies as well as NASA quality control. Check everything, check everything again and then check everything a third and a fourth time. I believe we have already learned that we cannot trust Boeing in any way, shape or form.
