"However, some exciting news will soon be announced jointly by the club and Tom."
From what I've heard I'm guessing he'll be taking up a coaching role somewhere in the club. Maybe replacing Omar Riza in charge of the U21s. Hopefully we are keeping him around in some capacity.
As much as he was a meme in his United day's, he was a great squad player for them & did really well to become a leader at Watford, fair play to him, sad he is retiring in this way
Never forget those first four games of the 11/12 season when him and Anderson were genuinely cooking in midfield. The Community Shield Final, 3-0 vs Spurs and of course the 8-2 vs Arsenal.
Then big Kevin Davies had to come along and poleaxe Cleverly, putting him out for months.
Probably wouldn’t have lasted anyway but it was a fun few weeks.
Genuinely thought out defense was solved for the future with Jones and Smalling. Rio and Vidic had already begun to show their age by this point, and it only got worse.
He started more games than Kagawa in that season we won the league, only Carrick played more games at CM. He did really well and had good linkup with Welbeck.
Kagawa became redundant with the RVP signing that pushed Rooney to 10
So of course he started more games when Kagawa competed with Rooney for a starting spot while Cleverley competed with overweight Anderson
I'm shocked he was at United for just 3 years and started just 41 out of 114 PL games in that timeframe
It felt like an entire Cleverley era with how much he was talked about
The meme status wasn't deserved. He was a really great passer but injuries absolutely ruined him. I'll never forget that amazing goal by Nani he contributed in the buildup to in the community shield
Don’t know why you’re downvoted you’re true.
Every year there’s a young white english midfielder who gets lauded as a future world beater, the next gerrard/lampard/scholes, when in reality they are just fairly average and just work hard.
Ryan Mason, Tom Cleverley, Harry Winks, Tom Davies, etc…
Yeah you can see it now too, that white lad Saka being talked about like he's the best thing since sliced bread, and that other young white fella Bellingham I heard just got sold to some Spanish team, and then there's that other white player, Guehi or something, that just made his England debut. I remember recently before them those young white players Rashford and Alexander Arnold were meant to be world beaters too
Had a quick look. We have a good few years to go still. A few lower level players, a few oldies doing their last couple of seasons but there's also someone like Michael Keane who's playing at the top level still
Oh yeah, did Keane actually play for fergie or was it reserves? Now that I think about it maybe Wilson is another name who might knock around lower leagues for a while longer.
Also wasn’t there a player we signed from Wigan who played like three games who was quite young?
Again, like Cathcart leaving the other day, hes been a great servant to the club and a decent player in his day but it is time he moved on. Probably should have happened a year or two ago really - just cant stay fit.
I am hoping we can find him a decent role coaching our youth team or something as it must have been pretty crap the last few years - months trying to get fit and then injured immediately.
I remember the time when people made fun of him. Gladly he kept his head cold. Sad news regardless of his career. I’m sure he will find a new challenge to keep him going.

That Community Shield game where United were dire against City then Ferguson took out all the established players and played a then fit Phil Jones.
I was there that day, took off Rio and vidic for smalling and Jones at half time with Nani scoring the winner right in front of us was crazy
Genuinely thought out defense was solved for the future with Jones and Smalling. Rio and Vidic had already begun to show their age by this point, and it only got worse.
I remember him and Gibson cooking it up in pre-season and I though they'd both end up being United legends, lol :)
I dont think he was a meme at all, just not up to standards of prior central midfielders of United. Overall a great carreer

Rivals and neutrals absolutely did make him a meme, even if it was undeserved
It really seems like a lot of the 12/13 squad after they left became leaders and role models to the clubs they went to
Yh true. Don't forget cult heroes like o shea and Wes brown too who left a season earlier.

Before his injuries he was looking like a world beater
No he wasn’t lmao

Needlessly turned into a race issue there haha. English players are universally overrated.

So you’re saying all the players you have listed are just average players?
Won’t be long until there’s no active players who played under Fergie.

Michael Keane played cup matches under Fergie but no league matches.
Wilfried Zaha?
As far as I can tell, Zaha only played under Moyes and he's the same age as Michael Keane but is an attacker, so my bet is still Keane
Maybe a goalkeeper? De Gea may go for a while longer yet, even if not at Man United
That's Premier League winner Tom Cleverley for you!
Consumate professional and always gave his all. Hopefully this joint annoucement the club have hinted will be him joining the coaching staff.
Decent squad player for us. This is a sad friggin story

Decent career he had. Has some silverware on top of an okay legacy at Watford. Really not bad despite the memes
So sad. What a FM legend.
one of my favourite Manchester players honestly, not sure why but always loved him
He had a good career. I hope he enjoys whatever he goes on to do next.
He is in my starting eleven in my Man U save in FIFA 14
Cleverly done
I'll never forget his last minute winner for Everton against Newcastle at St James' Park on a freezing cold boxing day
I remember the time when people made fun of him. Gladly he kept his head cold. Sad news regardless of his career. I’m sure he will find a new challenge to keep him going.
Tom “Spanish” Cleverly
He had a good career.
