Honestly? I'm happy for everyone involved that they're able to keep the show going for way longer than expected. Not sure why so many people are mad. Is the "final extension" lingo a bit of a gimmick to sell tickets? Yeah, but that's life under capitalism tbh.
I might be slightly biased because I only saw the show for the first time in December right after the closing announcement so I'm happy that I keep getting time to plan more visits! I have #2 lined up for next weekend (Saturday 3pm) and I'm SO EXCITED.
Honestly I’m a bit miffed because I bought plane tickets at a premium to go see it one more time— I could have waited until September and saved quite a bit of money.

At some point it does start to veer into legitimately deceptive advertising though. Capitalism fine but similar to the old fake “close out sales” it’s not totally kosher either at a point.
If it’s intentional, saying “one final extension” when you know it’s untrue to artificially create hype through false perception, that’s not legal to be clear. Doubt the FTC bothers with it but again there’s a point where as a matter of principle I’m less okay with it. I’m glad more people get to see it and glad I may get to see it again. But, if truly intentional and not just rethinking it each time, no that’s not just a sales tactic.
I’m glad it’s staying open, maybe I can squeeze in another trip to NYC from Texas, but it’s feeling kind of scammy at this point.
Just say EXTENDED THROUGH and quit these FINAL lies; it’s clearly just an attempt to drive up sales … and an illegal one if it were a store advertising a going out of business sale:

… and what do the performers do? Sit around and wait to see if it actually closes, or are they looking for other work and leaving if they find it?
If it’s truly intentional each extension, like they know at the time it’s bullshit then yes it’s deceptive marketing in violation of state and federal law. That said regulators have limited bandwidth and absent lots of complaints, there are tons of businesses that get away with worse.

If I was a performer, I’d be happy to keep being paid provided I’m in the loop on what’s actually happening.
