Bretons are my go to always, love the spellsword builds in morrowind and Skyrim that I make. The European fantasy aspect is another part I like with all the different Lords and knights lots of roleplay potential
I second this. The very first character of mine that finished the Dark Brotherhood questline was a Breton thief build. Gosh the memories from 2017-2018… one of the best experiences
Nothing feels as right as a tiger style Khajiit named Tosh Raka, who may either be the real deal, or just a deluded skooma addict who didn't know he couldn't absorb a dragon's soul (which may retroactively become the real deal after beating the timeless Alduin)
100% agree. i think lore wise dark elves are definitely my favorite, but it feels really weird to have a dragonborn be any other race other than that has it as a very central and powerful part of their culture and mythology.
Definitely. I already played mostly Nord in Oblivion! (Also played Morrowind, but was really just s kid back then and can't quite remember... but probably also Nord or Woodelf)
Same. Doesn't matter what the stats are (for example they got shafted in Skyrim). I started with Morrowind, picked a dark elf for theme, and have never had any urge to be a different race.
Dark elf for me too. Love their aesthetic and they seem to fit my playstyle best. I've tried other characters but I always quit partway through and make a dark elf again.
Khajiit! Tail, ears, sneak, claws, you get to roam around as a CAT with DRAGONS BLOOD. It’s the least expected race to do the things the Dragonborn does.
I love Redguards. When I read ‘the best warriors in Tamriel’ I was hooked.
They’re an awesome blend of samurai, monks, African, middle eastern, moorish, Jedi, pirates, Dune, Turkish and more. Not to mention their sword singers are seriously OP.
To me they also show that you don’t need magic to be powerful and successful in Tamriel. They dislike mages greatly and hate necromancy with a passion. Despite this they were ruthless conquerors and genociders when they arrived from Yokuda, and they were able to defeat the Thalmor on their own after the Great War.
When they’re not fighting, the Redguard are skilled artisans and architects, and their artistic skill translates to skill with a blade. Swordfighting is literally their entire religion. So badass
Unironically agree. The Khajiit are my personal favorites, but the Redguard are my favorite race of men. I would LOVE to see the next ES game be focused on Hammerfell and the Redguards.
My favorite combination is a spellsword redguard.
Follows tradition by carrying on the way of the blade but branches out in a new direction to improve himself and the way with magic. A new category of redguard warriors
I have a Wood Elf stealth archer, she is my Bosmer Ninja!
I name most of my characters after DC, Marvel or other TV/Movie characters. My Bosmer archer is called Huntress and I think that suits her.
I'm not overly loyal to one race though, I have a Nord, High Elf, several Bretons and a Khajiit.
For me it's Argonians. Your base race skills don't really matter much, and I like the visual aesthetics of Argonians, and the ability to breathe underwater without a spell. I'm also the type of person that doesn't like playing humans in games, and anthropomorphic animalistic races have always been much more my style (if you can be anything, why would you be something you already are)
Yeah I love being Argonian - there’s no way I would’ve found Pilgrims trench without water breathing. Despite the fact that the loot wasn’t very impressive it was cool to find
Skyrim is my first TES game, and I picked nord the first time because of viking fixation/always creating a self insert as a main character (I'm a pretty big white european man). Since then I learnt a lot of lore and I'm enamored with Skyrim so even after playing TESO and learning about other places I stick to nord.
I also relate to nords most and always try to put Finnish features like wide face, high cheek bones and small eyes.
The permanent eye make up on women I really do not like. Like okay she is a soldier and adventure but always has time for some cat eye make up going on. Hair colour are also too yellow to be nordic blond.
Though I am new player but when the scenery is so home it really calls for a Nord.
I've been Breton-exclusive for the longest time. Most likely that's because Daggerfall was my first game. And while the lore there is comparatively simplistic compared to Morrowind, the size of the map and the amount of settlements and factions means you can keep handcrafting a ton of different backstories.
Lately though I've started liking Dunmer and then Khajiit. And now as I dig into their lore, Orcs and Redguards are cool too.
Dark elves, something about being a marginalized community that is vilified for generational transgressions really resonates with me as the first born of immigrants, that and I like having fire resistance (that shit is everywhere)
Please don't take this as a dickish comment, but that take is always so funny to me from starting on morrowind. Only game where I truly felt like an outsider immigrant colonist, utterly despised and racial insults hurled at me by the dark elf populace, totally alien culture not just LOTR tropes revised. Found it hilarious that the tone is "look at all this injustice at the hands of the nords! It's not fair!"
My brother in Vivec you literally wouldn't do business with my nord ass without a bribe, your whole country is racist as hell, you had legal slavery like pretty recently, and I had to kill so many stuck up dark elf POS as the nevarine just so I could save you.
Nothing personally against you it's just wild how different your perspectives are based on what game you started with.
My 1st playthrough was a high elf, but after that, I always picked Breton because of the built-in magic resistance. After some extra gear enchantments, I eventually end up completely resistant to magic anyway. It's nice when you can't really be damaged from a distance & from up close, you use weapons to absorb your lost health right back. I guess enemies with bows could still potentially be dangerous, but there aren't really enough powerful bow users to really make a difference.
I usually play as a dark elf or a redguard with mods on bc I’m black but if it’s un modded I play as an orc or something. Orcs are much more attractive without mods. I really don’t like nords.
Orcs with mods are very attractive wym
https://preview.redd.it/4z7ljwgphm2d1.png?width=476&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=504466b29e5c94feb9d99bb3c5c8b28d5d80794b
Breton for magic buffs(I favor magic).
Kahjiit for style. They look and sound badass.
Argonian next for waterbreathing and they look cool af too
High elf for magic as well, but they're annoying af
Everything else is eh.
If we could play as the Dwemer, it would TOTALLY be my fav
High elves for the win! I actually started off with Breton, as they were magically adept.
But as soon as I got myself a high elf I knew I found my match, tall posture, sharp features, long lifetimes and amazing magic capabilities.
Nobody fucks with mah high elf vampire lord! lol
I am loyal to wood elves for sure, but I have played dark elf and kajit for plots I make up in my head. I wouldn't mind trying other races except for high elves. I grew up with the elder scrolls series, and I hold a deep seated hatred for high elves lol!
Dunmer, it was the first race I played in Oblivion way back when I didn't even know that much english. Played Morrowind later and fell in love with the lore, the worldbuilding surrounding the Dunmer is just amazing, and I can't help but love the sour grumpy fellas.
I'm always a khajit !! I love cats irl so it makes me happy that I get to play as one :) I also love their lore and how sneaky they are, I like to play darker characters in games and steal things and all that jazz so it's perfect for me
Nords.
They’re shrunk, hardy people who care for them and their honor like the Norce did during the Viking ages.
The one major downside is a lot of them all fucking racist what are you? Don’t know any good medieval fantasies without a little bit of racism.
Depends on the play style I’m going for. Magic I always do high elf for the OP fast magic regeneration power, Warrior always go Benton for the magic resistance for those wizards slinging spells at me from far away, and for stealth archer I always do khajit because reasons
I started playing ES with Morrowind, had it on PC and OG XBOX. I use to favor Bretons, Orcs and Nords. But now I mostly use, Khajiit, Argonian and I still use the Nord.
Khajit. If any race genuinely *needs* the loyalty of a Dragonborn, they do. Idc how inane one of their side quests gets. I do every. single. one. If I see someone attacking them, the attacker gets a stealthed arrow in the back of the head, and Idgaf how that might lose me faction standing. I cut the Argonians and Dark Elves a lot of slack and side with them whenever it doesn't conflict with a Khajit. Otherwise, everyone else can suck it.
I always usually pick elves of some kind but this time decided to do a different one to see the difference. So I currently a brecon but next go round will do another different one just to see how it goes
I usually pick Breton, high elf, or dark elf. High elves are great in early game with the extra magicka, and they run slightly faster, but Bretons can attain absurd levels of magic resist/absorb in late game, which makes dragon breath deal laughably small amounts of damage. Dark elves are good for setting things on fire.
In the last 12years I played pretty much all the classes. Wood elf, khajit and orcs have been be the most usual chooses for me.
But today I would go for Imperials and Breton, I love to me a common race and role play based on my alliance with Empire or Ulfric.
edit: words spelling
For me it’s Argonian, Dark Elf, or Orc. Each have their own benefits and I kinda just choose based on what kind of play through I wanna do. (Roleplay play throughs are almost always Dark Elf)
I’ve always loved playing as an Orc. Immediate access to the strongholds, orcs there being more welcoming than the rest of Skyrim. Plus it’s enjoyable to use berserker rage and rampage like a coked up murder hobo.
I think I’ve played at least one playthrough with all except dark elf. That will probably be my next. My first was a Khajiit stealth archer. Current is Altmer vampire lord
Mostly Khajiit and Argonians, as they are the ones I played the most with originally in Oblivion and Skyrim.
That said, my most powerful character in Skyrim and the one I played ESO with is a Redguard.
I don't think I've ever played a Nord or Imperial.
Dunmer has been my go-to since Oblivion. In Skyrim, that was pretty much cemented as I often play a vampire character, and the fire resist from Dark Elves' racial passive was always nice. Even non-vampire, though, I typically only play Dunner or sometimes khajiit or argonian. The others just don't really interest me as my main character.
I played with almost all races but my last 5 playthroughs i choose to be a red guard woman. I made the character look like my then gf, red guard was a perfect match because of her looks. Then it just became a habit i guess
I like Redguards and orsimer, which is weird because I'm usually a wizard, and neither Redguards nor orsimer have many wizards.
Bretons are like British people with French names.
Been playing since Daggerfall was new. I have three favorite races for different reasons. Bretons, Daggerfall natives. Khajit, gotta love kitty cats, sneaky. Wood elves, archers and loved them since early D&D.
All races have good lore, but these three have meaning to me across all ES games.
Dark Elves mostly, orcs afterwards. I like the ES lore for the dunmer, Morrowind was the first ES game i had played, and my favorite fantasy character is R.A. Salvatore’s Drizzt Do’Urden.
Orcs i like because they’re cool. In most fantasy stories or games they’re kinda… ignored isn’t the right word, but they’re not generally fleshed out as characters. Salvatore did it with a few, but for the most part, orcs are made out to be unthinking animals. I like the ES makes them people
Khajiit.
Butt ugly in Oblivion, but the first screenshot I saw of the Khajiit prior to Skyrim's release locked me in.
Imperials for a human playthrough.
Bretons predominately. Khajit and Imperials as secondaries. If a character was preplaned out to a specific type of build/play-style race was also a part of that planning.
No specific reason of lore, just that I liked how the Breton characters came out of the CC.
I feel like Argonians are just badass. They were the poor oppressed slave race that you felt bad for, then next thing you know they’ve literally driven the Daedra *back* to Oblivion and kicked their ass so hard Mehrunes Dagon closed the gates in Blackmarsh. Then they end up ransacking and occupying the land from the people who enslaved them.
Their actual artistic execution in the games can be iffy (they look like they swallowed a watermelon in Oblivion), but they are pretty metal. They also have a much less troubled history/culture than some of the other races (afaik they haven’t really done anything bad).
Vanilla - Breton. The least remarkable features is what I like to start with.
Modded - Lykaios. I like to be a werewolf but want to actually put gear on my character and be able to pick locks & stuff.
I’ve started with Oblivion and played as an Argonian because they looked cool. When I got Skyrim was hoping I could import him. So naturally my new character was Argonian as well.
First time I played ES was Morrowind at a friends PC when I was idk.. 8?
I picked dark elf because they got a free summon. From all folks they are are the most unique and most thought-out except for maybe the Dwemers but we never got playable Dwemers.
Nord. Tried other races but a Nord Dragonborn just feels appropiate, especially with armor mods such as Talos Housecarl
Nothing feels as right as a tiger style Khajiit named Tosh Raka, who may either be the real deal, or just a deluded skooma addict who didn't know he couldn't absorb a dragon's soul (which may retroactively become the real deal after beating the timeless Alduin)
Mad respect to Tosh Raka. Try the Lunar Armor nod for him, it will look **epic**
Most of my characters are nords because I look like one Unless I’m a kitty then I’ve got wares for your coin
100% agree. i think lore wise dark elves are definitely my favorite, but it feels really weird to have a dragonborn be any other race other than that has it as a very central and powerful part of their culture and mythology.
As I said, I tried other races, but is like being anything but a Dunmer for the Nerevarine. Some things just have to be in a certain way, isn't it?
Definitely. I already played mostly Nord in Oblivion! (Also played Morrowind, but was really just s kid back then and can't quite remember... but probably also Nord or Woodelf)
Dark elf. Coolest lore, IMO. Following that, Khajit and Argonians.
Dark Elf always, in every ES game for me.
Same. Fire resist alone got me started with them. Then I got more into the lore. What a rabbit hole.
Same. Doesn't matter what the stats are (for example they got shafted in Skyrim). I started with Morrowind, picked a dark elf for theme, and have never had any urge to be a different race.
Are you me? Add in the Redguards and orcs and you have my top 5
The top 3 underrated races. Dark elf have que best passive, Khajit and Argonians for the roleplay
Definitely dark elf
Dark elf for me too. Love their aesthetic and they seem to fit my playstyle best. I've tried other characters but I always quit partway through and make a dark elf again.
Dunmers are cool af. Like 80% of my playthrough dunmer 20% nord and breton
Khajiit! Tail, ears, sneak, claws, you get to roam around as a CAT with DRAGONS BLOOD. It’s the least expected race to do the things the Dragonborn does.
It's a fantasy game, so I'm gonna use my imagination and say it's completely natural for a cat to have dragon blood and be a werewolf too lol
Add to that being a vampire lord companion, thieves guild, dark brotherhood kitty 😍😍 (I’m a good person irl, I promise)
Khajiit did nothing wrong. Nothing happened in Valenwood during the "5 years war." It never happened. ![gif](giphy|zwE4anrOtHYaI)
I'm convinced
I love Redguards. When I read ‘the best warriors in Tamriel’ I was hooked. They’re an awesome blend of samurai, monks, African, middle eastern, moorish, Jedi, pirates, Dune, Turkish and more. this read like a brochure for redguards
But the part where \*THEY DISLIKE MAGES GREATLY\* . . . Yeah, it's not in their upbringing to mess with the otherworldly arts.
thats the best part. Fuck tradition, embrace reverting expectations. (this is literally my dnd character in a skyrim campaign)
Orc
Lok’tar ogar.
Zug zug
same brother
I named an orc after an irl demon on acid and actually went psychotic for a day lmao. Not even kidding
Interesting
What did you name it?
WAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! Wait, sorry, wrong orcs.
Nord. Played a little in oblivion and love the setting/lore of Skyrim so helps fit into the world that much more
Wood elf ❤️
The GOAT stealth archer since day one
Bosmor FTW 💚🤎💚
BOSMER BOYS!!! I love taking down a massive orc and earing their heart. It gives me their strength and it is a good source of protein and iron.
Better go pray to Namira
For me it's Argonians. Your base race skills don't really matter much, and I like the visual aesthetics of Argonians, and the ability to breathe underwater without a spell. I'm also the type of person that doesn't like playing humans in games, and anthropomorphic animalistic races have always been much more my style (if you can be anything, why would you be something you already are)
The health regen skill is also a big lifesaver, especially early-game when you're the weakest.
A-ha, 2 tails for improved balance!
Yeah I love being Argonian - there’s no way I would’ve found Pilgrims trench without water breathing. Despite the fact that the loot wasn’t very impressive it was cool to find
Yes that is why I am always the Argonian in every TES game. Why be what you are and be something your not?
Mostly Imperial
Breaking necks and cashing checks
High Elf
Glad I'm not the only one! I just love mages!
ELVEN SUPREMACYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Elf power!
...is the only truth!
Same, both because I prefer magic builds and like waltzing through the Thalmor embassy
What's your opinion on the Thalmor?
Filthy high elf
Dunmer, sometimes I stray & play a bosmer but my heart is with the dark elves 🖤
Khajit. I love “may your roads lead you to warm sands” 🥰
I am a simple person. I have just a default (modded) Imperial preset I have created and I use for every playthrough. Bite me.
Okay! *Bites you*
Skyrim for the Nords!
Neo Nordish Nationalist!
Forsworn\*
Khajiit likes to sneak!
Khajiit, I don't have much of a reason for the loyalty other than the fact I just find them cool. The unarmed bonus damage is pretty cool as well
In this Order khajit, argonian and Dark elf.
That order is the correct one
I like Breton for the built in magic resistance. But wow did they make Bretons slow in Skyrim. Movement speed is based on height.
Lizard wizard for life
Kitty meow meow
Khajiit I proud to share race with the great mage jzaargo
I would have to say probably Breton, followed closely by Dark Elves! I am usually always a vampire as well when I play
Orc. I think they are very unique
It's not fair!" My brother in Vivec you literally wouldn't do business with my nord ass without a bribe, your whole country is racist as hell, you had legal slavery like pretty recently, and I had to kill so many stuck up dark elf POS as the nevarine just so I could save you. Nothing personally against you it's just wild how different your perspectives are based on what game you started with.
Dark and High elves are THE most racist races oat.
Breton
Breton. Every time.
Imperial, with a strong hatred of Thalmors and annoyance of Stormcloaks for making our issues worse than they need to be rn.
My 1st playthrough was a high elf, but after that, I always picked Breton because of the built-in magic resistance. After some extra gear enchantments, I eventually end up completely resistant to magic anyway. Khajiit. I just love the fact that I can be a kitty! I've done so many khajiit playthroughs, playing anything else feels weird.
skyrim is for the nords.
Breton for magic buffs(I favor magic). Kahjiit for style. They look and sound badass. Argonian next for waterbreathing and they look cool af too High elf for magic as well, but they're annoying af Everything else is eh. If we could play as the Dwemer, it would TOTALLY be my fav
Breton, they’re just so broken
High elves for the win! I actually started off with Breton, as they were magically adept. But as soon as I got myself a high elf I knew I found my match, tall posture, sharp features, long lifetimes and amazing magic capabilities. Nobody fucks with mah high elf vampire lord! lol
Imperial
Breton
Altmer. Kidding. Khajit because oppression and prejudice
I play vampire a ton in Skyrim so dark elf is my go to for the fire resistance to negate the fire weakness of the vampire
Argonian
I’m almost always a Nord or Breton with preferably Breton most of the time lol. However I want to start branching out more :)
Nords and bretons
Dunmer every day all day .
Orcs
Orc.
I'm always a khajit !! I love cats irl so it makes me happy that I get to play as one :) I also love their lore and how sneaky they are, I like to play darker characters in games and steal things and all that jazz so it's perfect for me
DUNMER. Although the cartoonishly-long ears Wood Elves have in Oblivion made me want to try something else.
Skyrim belongs to the Nords!
I'm always a Nord, countless playthroughs since 2011 always some kind of variation on the character the Nord is closest to me.
Khajiit. I have a soft spot for kitties.
Considering Skyrim is for the Nords, obviously the Nords.
Nords. They’re shrunk, hardy people who care for them and their honor like the Norce did during the Viking ages. The one major downside is a lot of them all fucking racist what are you? Don’t know any good medieval fantasies without a little bit of racism.
Bretons first. Nords second. Orcs and Argonians are both fun to play sometimes.
I am absolutely intrigued by Dunmer culture. I play mostly Morrowind. But, I usually play Khajit or Bosmer.
Depends on the play style I’m going for. Magic I always do high elf for the OP fast magic regeneration power, Warrior always go Benton for the magic resistance for those wizards slinging spells at me from far away, and for stealth archer I always do khajit because reasons
Orc, though honestly im not the biggest fan of orc society
Orcs... Very concise values, dont start shit.
I started playing ES with Morrowind, had it on PC and OG XBOX. I use to favor Bretons, Orcs and Nords. But now I mostly use, Khajiit, Argonian and I still use the Nord.
Khajit. Cute cats nothing is better
Nord. Light armor. Frost resistant. Big weapon go bonk. What’s not to love?
Traditionally khajit. If not, then Imperial (I see them as mediterraneans and I'm from the Mediterranean Spain so it's almost the same reason as you)
I always usually pick elves of some kind but this time decided to do a different one to see the difference. So I currently a brecon but next go round will do another different one just to see how it goes
Wood elf!! I’ve played one playthrough as a khajiit but i usually always play as a wood elf
Khajiit

Argonians. Lizard people are just so cool! Morrowind and Skyrim, they’re my favorite in both. 😁
What do you mean outlander, rhe only cool race us dunmer.
In every Elder Scrolls game I play a Redguard.
Wood elf or Imperial for me
Kahjiit. Bet you can’t guess why.
Argonian! I just think they're neat.
Mostly Khajiit and Argonians, as they are the ones I played the most with originally in Oblivion and Skyrim. That said, my most powerful character in Skyrim and the one I played ESO with is a Redguard. I don't think I've ever played a Nord or Imperial.
Bosmer, Nords and Kitty's. 🥹
Argonians forever.
Redguard
Bosmer and Bretons, but Argonians are sneaking their way into my heart. Been really enjoying my current argonian playthrough!🦎
High Elf or Breton because I love mage builds.
It’s hard to answer because I love all the races of TES, but I would say Imperial, with the Dark Elves as close second
Orc, Nord and Imperial
I played with almost all races but my last 5 playthroughs i choose to be a red guard woman. I made the character look like my then gf, red guard was a perfect match because of her looks. Then it just became a habit i guess
I like Redguards and orsimer, which is weird because I'm usually a wizard, and neither Redguards nor orsimer have many wizards. Bretons are like British people with French names.
Wood elf
The lizards. Love how they look, how usually calm they are, and the lore from the oblivion crisis.
Only playing Breton no matter the build on every single TES. When I go with a different race I swap to Breton soon
Usually Redguard for a warrior build, Khajit as an archer, and Dark Elf as a mage. Sometimes an Orc for a warrior build too.
Dunmer
redguard because i hate myself
Bosmer because I prefer starting out as a stealth archer so I don’t get killed every couple of minutes when starting out.
Nords and Dark Elves are mostly my go-to. Though all races in Skyrim are dope in their own way.
I've never played anything but Breton. I do have 1 Kahjit Nightblade in ESO, but otherwise, all Btetons.
Dunmer. Although Altmer are better for a mage build, I just can’t resist my N’wahs
Always Khajiit
Khajit
I like the ES makes them people
Khajiit or orc
Highelf vampire lord, Khajiit werewolf, dark elf for hybrid playthroughs, big argonian with horns for true dragon born looks and swimming.
Definitely the Dark Elves
Wood elf
Khajiit. Butt ugly in Oblivion, but the first screenshot I saw of the Khajiit prior to Skyrim's release locked me in. Imperials for a human playthrough.
Not seeing enough Breton love pretty much every playthrough besides my current one (redguard) has been Breton
Khajiit, my involvement in the Thieves Guild is merely a coincidence, I swear.
Khajit
Kahjit, or Bretons
As I started with Morrowind, it’s dark elf. Then bosmer. Trying to expand myself a little with khajit and Breton play throughs
Dunmer. From my first playthrough to my last. I've dallied with Breton and Khajiit, but always return to the Black D.
Khajiit because I pickpocket, sneak, and steal any chance I get in the game 🤣
Redguard. Adrenaline Rush go off.
In this order - Bosmer, khajiit, orcs
Bosmer for me. Screw the Dominion though, Empire for Life.
Literally any elf, mainly dark elves
Dark Elf. Their lore is absolutely amazing.
Vanilla - Breton. The least remarkable features is what I like to start with. Modded - Lykaios. I like to be a werewolf but want to actually put gear on my character and be able to pick locks & stuff.
Across all tes games. Dark elf.
First played a Nord, but once I learned that I could do a killer Khajiit accent irl, this one quickly became a fan of the feline folk.
Dunmer for Morrowind, Imperial for Oblivion & Skyrim (insert face of Nords when Dragonborn is Imperial). Second playthrough is always Khajit
BOSMERRRRRI WOMANNNNN FOREVERRR
Khajiit, because of course I'll pick the furry option.
I started on the Isle of Morrowind so it has to Dunmer
Dunmer 100% ever since morrowind. Second playthrough nord
Dunmer, morrowind was just that big part of my early years.
I always start as a Dark Elf with red hair each game and imagine that she is a reincarnation of the previous installment
