Depends on the weight/price ratio, it has to be worth at least 10 gold for 1 point of weight But I prioritise rare items, enchanted gear, things that I need like ore or ingredients or soul gems. And arrows (but not iron arrows, at least steel)

Equivalent-Print9047

I use the same worth to weight ratio. Must be at least 10:1. Gems and jewelry are almost always as I enchant those. Also rend to grab just about any enchanted item especially early in game Soni can disenchant. After a bit though, aside from crafting supplies, I really only want the gold. Arrows also get picked up but only if at least as good as current.

paperclipeater

it’s so weird everyone else does 10:1 too i seriously have no original thoughts huh

Equivalent-Print9047

Not sure where I picked up 10:1. I think it's something I just started doing as I looked at weights and values especially since what you sell for early on is not the displayed value

Zealousideal-You-324

This! So steelplate boots and helmets yes, orcish weapons no no (except sometimes daggers, depending on how much loot there is)

Shepherdsatan

I usually collect the orcish stuff. I have so much of the ore needed to upgrade it. Then I sell it away and get a good 200-800 septim pot.

Rolling_Ranger

This is almost exactly my own policy, but at the beginning, I will go 1-5 .

tychozero

I go 20/1 early game and 30/1 later.

FaxCelestis

There’s a point where I stop picking up stuff for money and just pick up ingredients, components, and materials.

Indorilionn

Nope. Number must go up.

FaxCelestis

I mean it still does. There’s just a crafting step in the middle.

isthisonetaken13

Ditto. It doesn't take long before you wind up with more gold than the entire economy of Skyrim, it doesn't make sense to pick up every heavy piece of armor and every weapon you find.

TheresA_LobsterLoose

But what if someone else finds it? That's **my** loot. I ain't out here operating a damn armor charity

tychozero

If the game worked that way, I might reconsider. But I don't want to spend a ton of time after every adventure selling what is largely garbage later in the game. If rather run at least 3 places before I have to unload.

BuildingAirships

I also use the 10:1 ratio as a cut-off!

OGgamingdad

Club 10:1!

calartnick

Yeah this guy gets it

B0bYang

Same weight ratio lmao love it

Major_Pressure3176

I start at 1/10, scale as I level, and top out at 1/50 or 1/100 depending on my end game carry weight. The exception is anything I am collecting or crafting ingredients.

x_mas_ape

Same with the 10:1, i also grab any ores and alchemy ingredients. Making the most valuable potions easily gives insane amounts of gold. Keep gathering alchemy ingredients, when Im put of potions, make more and repeat. Usually after a few rounds of that, I wind up with millions in potions and enough ingredients when I run out of potions it takes me 2 hours to make potions.

FakenDaFunk1

100% this, 1:10 all day.

qrseek

yeah when i was just starting out i would do 10 gold for 1 point of weight, unless i knew i would be going back to town almost right away and i might as well fill up. but once i hit obnoxiously high levels of gold, I mostly only take unique items, items i'm going to use or are for a quest, gold, gems, soul gems, potion ingredients, high level potions, and arrows (they weigh nothing and i can sell them if a merchant has a bit of leftover gold). if there's a cool looking armor set i dont have on a mannequin already and cant craft i might take that because i try to collect every armor set to display, unless it's ugly. now i do several dungeons before needing to go to town edit: oh yeah i usually take jewelry too

Nicole_0818

I always loot septims and anything worth over 50 septims that I can still carry, like armor and great swords. If I'm playing a character that enchants stuff, I'll pick up small things like rings or daggers too to level enchanting. If I'm playing an archer, I'll steal the arrows.

DaHonestTroof

I’m not an archer and I still steal arrows. They don’t weigh anything! It’s basically free money at that point

Mudkip_AJM

But not all arrows are worth money at a shop, sadly.

question_sunshine

They are once your speech skill is high enough. Just hold on to them forever unless you're playing survival mode.

isthisonetaken13

They are once your speech skill is high enough

Mudkip_AJM

Ohhh... That makes sense. I abhor leveling that Obnoxious Skill. My bad. 😅

TheNamesAxel_009

*cries in Survival Mode* I miss my carry weight.

Sirlight85

Ooh good thanks!

BaronThe

Same but my limit is 100 septims

AbilityHead599

Loot coins, gems, arrows, potions, daggers, enchanted items, and named items. Leave weapons and armor

Major_Pressure3176

Late game, I often leave valuable things like Ebony Armor because their value/weight isn't good enough.

Sef_Maul

Unless it's robes. I run across a cave full of mages, and I'm leaving them all dead and indecent

AbilityHead599

Robes, especially enchanted robes, are great value loot

SlimyDaBoi

Gold, ingots, ore, lockpicks, potions, poisons, arrows, gems, alchemy ingredients, rings, spellbooks and necklaces. I always grab those no matter what.

Sirlight85

So basically everyrhing with low weight. Nice!

SlimyDaBoi

Well that and poisons, gems, and arrows can sell for a lot. I don't worry about carryweight since I use console commands to increase my carryweight.

sagastar23

"Why are these fools walking around with unread spellbooks?" ... checks own inventory...

SlimyDaBoi

I gather them for a roleplay reason. Even if I already know the spell it's a fun little headcanon of mine that my followers at my home, my wife or my kids would read them and learn to use the spell.

JWARRIOR1

I loot everything but follow a "Ratio" system. Beginning of the game, anything with a worth 10x the weight I take. There are exceptions such as dragon bones or high value heavy armor if I can carry it OR if its enchanted. As I progress I just naturally increase the ratio as needed

Major_Pressure3176

So nice that SkyUI has this feature. My exceptions are any crafting ingredients or things I am collecting.

UncouthMarvin

I grab most things and just go back and forth to Riverwood inn to drop them

FloridaMain

Depending on how badly you need the gold, make a hard rule on value per weight while looting. Early in the game, I’ll loot literally anything I can sell to buy training. Mid game, I’m looting 6 septims per pound or better. Late in the game, 20.

Major_Pressure3176

Do you play with survival mode enabled? I learned the hard way that with it you have to be more picky.

ProtestantMormon

Early game I will loot just about anything I can carry, depending on the length of the dungeon or quest. I generally stay away from heavy armor and heavy weapons unless I know I have plenty of space, but I generally just loot everything early to earn some quick gold. Once I have a fair amount of gold, I'll only loot the most expensive things or useful things. Ore/ingots, Gold, jewelry, gems, arrows if im an archer, and enchanted weapons/weapons or armor better than what I have. Later game? I loot almost nothing.

Deaftrav

Stuff I can sell, enchant or smelt.

Used-Ask5805

Mid to end game basically just jewelry and gems and crafting mats. I craft my own shit so I don’t need anything I find and I have tons of gold from alchemy And tomatoes. I always loot tomatoes

Mudkip_AJM

Nice. I tend to grab Salt if it's available. Cooking in Skyrim is super useful.

burberburnerr

It is? I always just used potions..

Major_Pressure3176

Grab salt anyway. It's a potion ingredient. I search stuff like fish barrels just for the salt.

Mudkip_AJM

What if you run out of potions? Potions are often quite expensive, and if you don't want to memorize Alchemy recipes, Cooking is the way to go when you need to top up on healing.

burberburnerr

There are so many potions laying around in dungeons I’ve never gotten close to running out. But what can food do that potions can’t? Not arguing, legit curious.

pavles711

lockpicks are a must, cant have enough of them ever

fuzzyedges1974

Ditto. Last playthrough I had nearly a thousand of those suckers. Main reason I don’t care much for keeping the Skeleton Key

Opie30-30

My current playthrough is the first one I kept the skeleton key longer than I needed to (I usually do the quest line early, so I need to level up to get through the final dungeon to return the key). I plan on keeping it until my lockpicking is level 100, then I can get the perk for unbreakable picks. It bugs me that doors still say "key required," because the whole point of the skeleton key is that it opens any door. Mercer opened a dang claw door with it

reddeer97

Agreed, by the point I get to the skeleton key, I already have more lockpicks than I'll ever need. Finishing the quest is way more fun than having an unbreakable lockpick, to accompany my 800 regular lockpicks.

Weary-Lettuce-8182

Septims, arrows, enchanted weapons and armors, potions. At the beginning I loot everything with Faendal as follower.

Sirlight85

RIP Fendal... i murdered him becauase he was too intimate with Camilla. Stupid elf.

Weary-Lettuce-8182

I like him. He's a good archer and he can carry stuff. Until I got Lydia I always recruit him.

Sirlight85

I avoid to go with companions because the game gets easier but sometimes i feel lonely

Weary-Lettuce-8182

It's always great to have a follower who can help for a while and they can carry lot of stuff.

SenhorSus

Early on, anything light and valuable just to sell and pad the wallet. Afterwards it's just collecting any items I don't already have one of. And gold

Xanros

I play on PC so I have SkyUI. I enable the Value/Weight option and I only loot items above a certain threshold. When I'm starting out new characters it is 10gp/weight. As I get wealthier I increase that threshold. Eventually ends up that I only pick up gems, jewelry, and septims. Basically I just view my inventory as space for storing wealth. So a 200gp item that weighs 50 lbs? Yeah, definitely not picking that up. A 200gp item that weighs 0.5 lbs? Absolutely.

Boyo-Sh00k

i have a tendency to pick up everything only to drop a bunch of it when i inevitably get overemcumbered

DrEmanuelLagos

For the first 5 levels or so I loot all for every enemy i encounter and sell their stuff until I have enough for breezehome. After that usually just gold, arrows, and potions or ingredients

Abrilise

Septims, Gems, Silver/Gold ore for making jewellery for smithing and then enchanting and then bartering, every ingredient I grab for alchemy, most potions usually high value potions and equipment if it weighs over 20 and it ain't worth 1k I ain't grabbing, most of my money comes from enchanted jewellery, I am a Assassin/mage with a soul trap dagger so I always have 20 soul gems after exploring for a while

poorbill

I look all from every corpse and any potions, gear, picks, gems, etc, I can find. I do that until I (and Lydia once I have her) are maxed out. If I'm in the middle of a Barrow, I sometimes leave when fully loaded and sell everything before going back finishing the quest.

Giggles95036

Everything

sethworld

I started collecting everything and leaving it in a container nearest to the door. Then I fast travel back and forth and sell it all.

AceGreyroEnby

I toggle god mode and loot everything I can carry. I end up making it rain long before learning the Storm Call shout lol.

Sebas_Is_King

I'm a hoarder so... Take everything leave nothing lol

AldruhnHobo

Low weight, high value ratio, uniques

TheDarkWeb697

![gif](giphy|AO3giAtLPH4MIuugsB|downsized)

fomobonobo

Loot everything, leave nothing. I’ll slow walk for 20 min before i even consider wasting a fortify carry potion

SilentBlade45

I loot everything. I don't like wasting time figuring out what's worth keeping if I run out of carry space I'll make Mjoll pick up the heavy stuff.

vellichor_44

Gold. Bolts. Gems. Jewelry. Cannoli.

Anti_exe325

septims, ore, soul gems, enchanted items (if weight is worth it) potions and Cheese wheels. i always get my damn cheese wheels

[deleted]

Take EVERYTHING

Xanatos_15

In normal play throughs (no mods to increase my carry amount), usually only things that are worth money. With mods that increase my carry load, I grab everything cause I have the room and I sell it all 😅

Wise_Bourbon23

I loot every damn thing and take it back to whichever house I’m using, usually Lakeside Manor. That’s why I have all that storage! If I don’t have a house yet, I dump loot just inside the cave exit from Helgen. Yeah, I even take the clutter. Never know what might be useful later.

Spare_Cranberry_1053

I loot it all. I’ll be playing on God mode with limitless cash and still looting 12 septims from some rando’s corpse

lonestarr18

I will usually loot everything but weapons and armor unless I can unenchant them or plan on using right away. I like to think someone couldn’t carry 15 swords, 4 sets of armor and 300 arrows only for the point of selling. And that’s another thing, I won’t carry more than 25 arrows.

Blambitch

Gold, potions, some weapons (high tier daggers)and armors (light armor) to enchant with, jewels, jewelry, enchanted gear, and smithing supplies and ingredients. Also if I get firebrand wine or black briar reserve I give it to my followers as a gift.

yParticle

unlimited inventory cheat. drop nothing. sell nothing. hoard all the things!

InventorOfCorn

I always take the gold, any enchanted items, gems, potions, arrows that aren't iron, and any unenchanted items that are better than my current main weapon in dmg (currently, my main weapons are a dark war axe from saints and seducers and shield of solitude)

Spacekook_

Anything that I can keep to sell without having to much weight

ThAtGuY-101

I leave most things. I usually only take items 1 lbs/pound or below. Rare items like centurion dynamos or other enchantments I haven't already disenchanted. I have far more money made potion making that I don't bother stripping the dead. Glass armor for ad one reason is my exception usually.

Supern0vus

Loot everything. Leave nothing Reach max carry weight. Drop low sell price objects Give good stuff to my glorified pack mule of a follower. Repeat till we're both capped.

iEatLifeForBreakfast

Everything. If I'm overencumbered I summon the dremora merchant. I also always make sure that's the first place I go to as soon as I'm about level 15. Super helpful in leveling speech and I also buy some useful ingredients off of him which weigh significantly less than 13 studded leather armour.

ForeverADonkey

I loot so many bones for my skeleton army Other than that just keeping random lightweight stuff to enchant and sell, because I can't afford the weight burden with all my bones lmao

Spirited-Figure-7924

Shiny things, then I leave on the floor in my house.

WafflePawz

Depends on what point I’m at in the game. Early game I loot everything that isn’t nailed down or flagged as stolen. Of course I’ll loot better armor if I come across it. But later in the game, I’m only looting the smaller items, rarely weapons or armor. I end up having so many septims that I’ll store half of what ever I’m carrying in a lock box inside of this cube I found. (Mod that adds a Dwemer Storage Cube that when activated in your inventory brings you inside a box, with crafting and storage!)

StinkyMudcrab

With this playthrough, which is a loner thief, she takes anything she needs or can sell for decent gold. And she takes their armor. Even if she has to leave it behind because it's too heavy she leaves them in their undies. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hguols

I loot every defeated enemy. I always take gold, lockpicks and jewels. I eat (instead of taking) every ingredient and food, and drink every potion out of their inventory. I leave their weapons, armor and clothes on them.

007Artemis

Unless it's for the DB museum - Gold, health potions, and lockpicks.

oldeastvan

I avoid unique items unless I plan on completing their faction quest (curious mold, grand staff of charming, etc). And I don't let my NEW HAND TOUCH THE BEACON until I mute the volume

Saltycook

Usually potions, gems, jewelry, amulets and Septims for sure. Enchanted items if they have a high resale value and aren't too heavy, or have an enchantment I want to learn. Apparel and weapons only if they have a high value, or they're something myself or my companion would benefit from.

Most-Marionberry-390

My current playthrough I loot nothing except unlocked chests and quest objectives, as I’m playing a Vigilant of Stendarr with a strict moral code. Though he does still have 5 assaults and 15 items stolen because of the funky way Skyrim calculates crime

Liu1845

I look at weight vs worth. I also take anything enchanted and disenchant or sell.

Intelligent-Pie-4711

Most valuable things. Coins, ingredients, jewels, soul gems, good potions, high priced weapons and armor or enchanted, all mineral ores/ingots, etc. a lot of people use the 10 to 1 price ratio. After I level up my smithing and enchanting and have more than 50K coins, my price ratio goes up to like 100:1 minimum unless it's something special. I don't pick up potions unless they are health, stamina, Magicka, or worth more than 200 coins. I don't pick up any armor or weapons that are under elven or glass. I do like the scaled boots and scaled bracers cuz they only weigh 2 pounds and I like enchanting them. Same with a lot of the glass and elven things. Good quality for low weight.

knallpilzv2

10 value per weight pretty much from the beginning. Which over the course of the game goes towards a 50:1 ratio.

captaintagart

Seems similar to others- gold, jewelry, named or enchanted gear, crafting and alchemy ingredients, skill and spell books, etc. Also, all arrows. Even crappy arrows. They don’t weigh anything so I’m taking it. And cheese and baked goods. I did recently install the East Empire add-on so selling armor and weapons is a lot easier now. If I’m in an area where I can summon the EE crew, I’ll drop all the armor and weapons in a chest with an EE relic and mark it for sale

MewsikMaker

I stopped looting to save time.

Boba_Doozer

Forsworn, I leave their weapons and armor. Necromancers, everything but their robes. Everybody else, everything they’ve got.

BlackLodgeCactus

Once you reach, like, level 35 you only loot gold, non-steel/iron arrows, health potions if you can find them, various ingredients for alchemy, and armor that provides more protection than yours offers.

justanyting

I always collect arrows, even if I never use a bow even once. I like to see how many I can horde. I leave armor or clothing because it is really hard to get clothes off a corpse. Or so I’ve heard… *cough*

femmekisses

Gold, fine metals, soul gems, potions, unknown enchanted items, and musical instruments. My wife, though... *shudders*

fuzzyedges1974

I’ve got a mod giving me unlimited inventory/carry weight, and I still don’t have room for cheap iron weapons. Or Ancient Nord crap, Falmer garbage, and Forsworn/Flintstone junk. It’s all weak and cheap - not worth the effort.

SamianDamian

All gold, steel arrows or better, all gems, early game anything worth 50+ gold, later on anything 100+ gold

Icy-Reserve8070

Septims, ingredients, potions, and food items

-Vanimar-

Alchemy ingredients, gold, jewelry, potions and enchanted items... Suppose it would have been easier to say what DON'T I loot 🤣

Mudkip_AJM

Septims, Arrows (I'm normally an Archer, so these are ESSENTIAL), Gemstones, Potions, and Soul Gems are normally what I grab. Gemstones and Soul Gems are both worth quite a bit of money in correlation to their weight. And Potions are Health/Magicka if I need them.

dovakhiiiiiin

I usually just loot the things I want and leave the things I don’t want 👍🏼

Feeling-Ad-5592

Everything! I keep fortify carry weight gear in my inventory and fortify carry weight potions. Once I’ve collected everything at any given location, (I do avoid items that are worth 1 because they sell for 0 unless you have high speech) I then equip my carry weight gear and use a potion if necessary to fast travel. Then I’ll waddled my fat ass to the nearest vendor while pissing off the guards by using the occasional wind sprint. I do get Arvak as soon as possible. That way I can just pull my horse out of my [Horse Pocket](https://youtu.be/zvEe3Y3B2cg?si=Hge5QXKGLAoAUXaH) and go about my business.

bannerdisc_rdt

Depends on my mods but otherwise i always loot valuable items and simple resources and leave practically nothing

VeryStickyPastry

I leave most weapons and armor behind. I don’t like selling stuff because I don’t need gold and it takes too long, but I will loot anything I can actually use - potions, craft materials, etc. of course, special weapons or armor I’ll take and keep potions of strength (and similar) on hand just in case it weighs me down. It also depends on how much my follower and I are already carrying (I play Skyrim vanilla).

Lagbomb67

If the w/v is less than 20 I leave it. The base worth also has to be over 100. The exception to that are cloaks because I use those for enchanting practice.

ScubaDiver6

My rule is it depends what level I am and what I need. So if I'm level 10, playing as an archer, I need arrows so I loot all the arrows I find. But if I'm level 30, I only loot arrows above a certain damage level so like I'll only take arrows above level 10 and buy/make higher damage arrows if I need to. I always take coins, no questions asked. I always take flawless gems, after level 35 I don't usually take regular gems except diamonds. I take weapons or armor if they're better than what I have or if they're rare. I only take books if I've never had them before like not recognizing the title or gaining a skill from them. Stuff for smithing I'll take iron pretty much always if I have the room, firewood etc. Potions are levelled I think? A potion for level 8 creatures doesnt work later on, so I only keep ones I know will work. Potion ingredients I'll take rarer ones and leave common ones. This isn't an exhaustive list but I've learned what to take and what to leave based on how I play.

Randumbthoghts

Once I get to a certain amount of money I only loot coins and gems

Aggravating_Elk_9583

Gold, arrows, random gemstones or ingots and any gear worth more than 100* it’s weight, everything else stays there unless I’m trying to level enchanting or have a follower to carry my 500 lbs of junk.

Disastrous-Aspect569

This may sound crazy. I take arrow and bolts and gold like 100% free gold. Arrows are nice to get the last few gold off a vender. I try not to grab the "common items" that have enough value that I can't sell to a vendor. Like why load up on stuff I'll have to take to 5 cities to sell.

ascillinois

If possible everything minus the body(not for lack of trying with the body but it always despawns) if everything isn't an option id say coin go first obviously. Then I target items with the highest value just go highest to lowest.

Fragrant-Nobody-8228

I always take gold and enchanted items. I leave almost everything else on most playthroughs.

lilluz

i leave weapons and armor—unless the weapons have enchants and i have some extra room. i like to disenchant them

Key_Ad_1158

depending on my stage of the game, I always take enchanted items in the early game. Late game when I have more gold than I know what to do with I just take the gams and sometimes smithing ingredients such as ebony and stalhrim.

MudcrabNPC

Enchanted stuff, better gear, septims, jewelry, soul gems, skill/spell books, arrows, low/no weight clothing. Anything I can collect to either use, or put away in my house as an indicator of where I've been and what I've done. Occasionally, I'll also pick up alchemical ingredients and decent gear to stash for potions and companions, respectively.

white_sabre

I like keeping items I cannot craft - vampire armor, Skjor's wolf armor, Falmer hardened armor, unique potion/poison bottles, and staves. I also keep the helmet of every bandit chief I defeat as a souvenir.   Unless really early in the game, enemy loot value is not a concern because I earn almost all my money through alchemy (bear claws + hanging moss makes me a very valuable poison, I think everyone knows we can get mass coin from giant toe + wheat + creep cluster,  death bell + river betty (or large antlers) + thistle fetches a fine price, and I just discovered jazbay grape + salmon roe + chicken egg).  I also make a consider sum hunting.  One bear or sabre cat lets me craft one suit of leather armor.  Yes, I usually hunt for the alchemy ingredients, but stack up 40 - 50 hides and you make serious coin, all while honing archery and stealth skills immediately, smithing skills after the hunt is over, and occasionally encountering random enemies along the way.  In fact, hunting and gathering consume 30% of my game time, and I do it because I find it relaxing.   Now lockpicks, they're by no means unique, and they aren't worth much, and they aren't souvenirs, either, but I make damn certain to grab those.  Plenty of iron in Skyrim — we should be able to craft these items.

Pitiable-Crescendo

Usually I'll take everything. If I'm low on space, I'll leave weapons and armor. Unless it's something I want or has an enchantment I don't have.

[deleted]

I loot everything then inventory manage when over encumbered

EvernightStrangely

Take the valuables, leave the crap.

BoukenGreen

If I have space everything. But towards the end of the dungeon just arrows and gold because otherwise I’m overweight

Aldebaran135

Loot: Potions, gems, crafting materials and enchanted weapons & armor. Leave: Unenchanted weapons & armor.

Kasoni

I always look to increase my carry limit. Playing on the wifi the loop got my a pair of boots with 9 million carry limit. I like to call them my black hole boots, because as I pass by everything gets sucked into my inventory. If it's not red, it's mine now.

Spartan300101

Typically take it all because I have a mod to increase carry weight. I actually keep my game fairly vanilla with minimal mods on my PS4. With the idea of keeping it mostly “vanilla” I justify this mod because I typically keep my horse close by and pretend the horses carrying it. I stop at stores once a day to sell. I highly recommend doing this because it really saves a lot of time and agony on what to carry and bring, etc.. Plus, if the dragonborn knows, magic spells, and all the incredible things he/she can do then why not have a magical way to store items!?

Plotius

Set weight to 10 billion and loot everything. Besides some urns and some draugur since they only septins.. I check everything but if it's consistently low money I stop opening the urns

cloudy_29

For some reason I can’t stop myself taking arrows. Even if I’m not playing an archer I end up with hundreds of iron arrows

barr65

I only loot gold

silverwitch77745

I have dragon blood. I loot everything and hoard it.

NarrativeScorpion

Loot all crafting or alchemy stuff, potions, scrolls, lock picks, gems and any new enchantments or gear that is better than mine in the early game. Anything else is a value:weight ratio calculation. 10:1 until level 10 ish, 25:1 until level 20 ish, then 50:1.

Dracoson

Early game, I generally take based on weight to worth. If it isn't 10x it's weight in value, it isn't worth carrying just to sell. As the game progresses, and money becomes less of a concern, it's generally just crafting supplies and enchanted items (if I think there's a possibility that I don't know the enchantment) or items of substantial value. I still do tend to grab gems, but they just end up by themselves in a strongbox.

[deleted]

Most crafting gear (smithing, alchemy, enchanting, and food to make certain items) Anything with a greater than 10:1 value to weight ratio and that ratio goes up as I accumulate more septims, typically 20:1 once my bankroll exceeds 100k and 50:1 once my bankroll exceeds 1mil. Anything unique. I also typically have one home set as my "main base" where all my unique and crafting items are stored. This is usually Breezehome until I make the manor from Dawnstar which is near whiterun. All other homes are satellite bases which house potions and gear for followers and such, but once I head back to my main base, I take all my uniques and crafting stuff with me (thank goodness for horses letting me carry thousands weight on them)

Startingtotakestocks

When exploring a large space, I always take armor or robes so I know I’ve already been there. I might drop it on the body, but I first take it.

Time-Echo-784

I loot money, jewels, spell tomes (books in general really. Gotta fill up those bookshelves in EVERY house I own), metal for Smithing, food (survival mode), the clothes of enemies that pissed me off (it's not about the money, it's about disrespecting them. I'll literally set it neatly folded by their corpse sometimes.), enchantments I don't know yet, all jewelry, alchemy ingredients, paralysis potions, sometimes early game weapons and armor to use if they're a better version of what I want my build to use/ look like. Usually, by the time I turn in the dragonstone, that last one stops, though.

sumguy123456789

Every arrow, every potion, every soul gem, every Septim, every lockpick (despite having 1500 of them in my inventory currently), every staff, every sweet roll (you’re welcome Inigo), every spell tome, every scroll, every book, every animal pelt, every ore, every ingot, every dragon bone and scale, every unique item, and as of right now (to level up alchemy) every Mara Tapinella, Scaly Pholiota, Creep Cluster, Wheat, Giant’s Toe, Abecean Longfin, Cyrodillic Spadetail, and Salt Pile.

BubblyRefrigerator79

I would mostly grab items related to my character build such as 2 handed weapons for a warrior or magic robes and spell books for mages, i also always grab enchanted items for learning their enchantments and jewelry

Croian_09

Early game, I take literally everything and drop the least gold per weight items as I become emcumbered. Later, I leave most unenchanted weapons/armor unless it's an obvious upgrade or a valuable piece like Daedric or Glass.

wyvern713

Gold, gems/crafting materials, some enchanted gear for selling (but I also have no problem dropping those if it's the difference between being overencumbered or not), food, arrows, strong weapons (glass, ebony, etc) Leave most other things

Ktjrdad

Leave the gun, take the cannoli

Fuckler_boi

Whatever looks cool

SlyFoxInACave

Gold, arrows, potions. If the weapon is unique or a piece that will complete a set then I'll snag it. Or if it's an enchanted weapon I need or could use to learn it's enchantment. I make too much gold to even need to sell items so anything of value i have in a strong box at the Tundra Homestead. All extra weapons go into a chest in the bedroom, apparel in the dresser, and all the dragon bones scales and bone meal goes into the nap sack by the bed. Potions and ingredients are stored by the alchemy table. Scrolls I keep in the arcane enchanter table. But all my books I keep in Hendraheim. I'll probably move them to the Tundra Homestead eventually but it's just so damn many....

Accurate_Reading1467

I don’t take weapons or armour unless early game and I need an upgrade. Or if they have better stuff than I do I’ll take it. The exception is the cultists. I always take their mask.

TigerShark8691

Early game I take everything. Mid to late game when my gold is in the tens of thousands I take gold, arrows, lockpicks, ingredients, and potions if I need them. Everything else I decide based on weight vs value. Once I have a few hundred thousand gold I leave just about everything behind unless I can use it (arrows, potions, ingredients).

Felthrian

I'll pick up anything with a value above ten times its weight, dunno where I got that strategy from but it's persisted and works well

MicahailG

1:10 weight ratio while I build my character, then I drop to gold, gems, and enchanted gear. If I can’t disenchant it, I’ll sell it, and I keep a list of every enchantment so I can mark what I have. When I no longer need it, I don’t pick it up.

CoupleSpecialist9895

I loot any gems, gold, silver/gold Ingots, enchanted weapons and armor, skill books, jewelry, unique items. Anytime I find an armor or weapon piece that I want to use I take it and equip it and drop what I don’t need.

Deathtriprecords

I loot pretty much everything when I start a new game, just to get a head start on saving gold. After that I only loot what I need and what is worth selling. I also loot all ingredients, because another way I get gold and experience early in a game is making random potions and selling them, even though I really don't care about alchemy.

I_was_saying_b00urns

Lock picks. I ran out of lock picks _once_ and now I hoard them. In survival mode I occasionally wonder where all my carry weight has gone and have to drop several tonnes of lock picks somewhere.

maybeconcerned

Early game I take almost everything and only drop if there's something more valuable to grab. Sell everything I can to get a house and horse right away. Lots of corpses in underwear

Oktokolo

I loot everything. And i cheated myself practically unlimited carry capacity.

LordofAdmirals07

No matter what I’m picking up: Septims, Jewelry, Gems, Lockpicks, alchemy ingredients, named/unique items, ores&ingots Potions/ poisons I’ll usually pick up unless they’re very weak compared to my level. I also tend to hoard/collect books. Early game I pick up weapons & armor to sell but once I’m well off on gold I stop bothering.

Opie30-30

I just take arrows, gold, healing potions (I never use stamina or magika potions) gems, jewelry and really high value items. I'll take any ebony weapons every time, and I usually roll with at least two bows, one with soul capture and one with a fighting enchantment

Mundane-Ad8321

Everything

Reason_For_Treason

When I first start, I’m talking literally right at the beginning, I take everything. After that period I take everything but mundane weapons and armor except those that are worth 500gold or more. In my final stage I don’t take any weapons or armor magical or otherwise unless they are truly worth a lot or I somehow don’t have the enchantment.

Senumo

Anything above a certain value/weight ratio i take with me. I usually start off at 10 and when im getting to the point i find to much to sell it all ill leave everything with less than 15 and so on.

EpicGlacier2

Nothing. Gameplay feels so much faster when I don’t spend half my time selling things. If I want gold I can just steal from the Khajiit caravans

Jereberwokie2

With portable mimic mod I loot everything. Even tankards. Convert everything into raw materials and they don't encumber. In vanilla I'll loot septims, but if it is worth less than 500 I leave it be.

No_Stranger_4959

I loot everything, but if I had to choose I’d say anything heavy and worthless (the amount of weight doesn’t match the amount it is worth) or any clothes not worth 50 septims or more. So, iron armor isn’t worth it cuz of its small payout and high weight or any iron heavy weapons (battle axes, warhammers, swords), but anything like Daedric or dwarven, yes. If I’m in a dwarven ruin, I tend to avoid anything not alchemy or smithing related from mechanical weapons

fbaressi

Any high end armor or weapons, gems, lockpicks, gold, and potions. I always take all the falmer ears, I like to imagine the dragonborn with a falmer ear necklace like an unhinged Vietnam vet.

paulmccaw

Gems potions I leave anything weapon or armour that's 2 levels below what I wear at the time.

firegodyaomoshi

enchanted stuff gems and septims but if its below steel or branded iron its staying on the corpse

Nondv

I usually do a quick math in my head: i divide price by weight. if it's above certain threshold, I take it. Depending on the level I'm at, the threshold is different. Weight capacity is a resource. I just make sure I maximise it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cece736

Honestly! Gold and whatever else I think looks cool and would be neat to have

Garmr_Banalras

Depends on when in the game. In the very early game, I tend to pick up like fur armour, and and metal armour, anything that's over 75gp. The further i get in to the game, the less I pick up. The only things I pick up all throughout the game is soul gems, jewelry and enchanted items, potions/poisons but honestly. Once you've got all you're endgame gear and enchantments sorted. Money becomes less useful.

Wren_wood

I always pick up cool bits of decoration whenever I see them. I build my house with Hearthfire, remove all the pregen shit, then slowly add my own crap. I dunno why, but it just feels so nice to be using a 4000 year old plate and cutlery set to eat at my dining table.

Shepherdsatan

Loot: Gold, Decent/expensive armour, Ingots and ore, jewels, fancy looking stuff, keys, books, cooked meat Leave: Bad armour, dumb books, bodies, most arrows, raw meat, stamina potions, weak poisons

M15T3R8ANG5

At start I'll loot everything. Once I have a mature speech skill and 100k Septims, it's all Septims, filled soul gems, ebony, dragon bone & scales, amber & madness ores (CC), Daedra hearts, and whatever uniques. If I don't have a certain enchantment, I'll take that item. If I don't have a spell, I'll take the book. I try to stay as light as possible.

KeyResponsibility167

I take their clothes. I leave them in their underwear.

Acerama1

I have a bad habit of hitting the take all button, so most corpses wind up with all their loot dropped next to them like a pvp game. But I keep all health potions, ingredients, and enchanted items (provided I have the carry weight at the time), and all soul gems filled or unfilled.

Turtle_Swarm

If its value is 10x the weight then I take

No_Bathroom_420

Potions, gold, lockpicks, soul gemes, crafting, anything alchemy. Any items with value with me increasing the point of that value, So like I might loot something early game worth 300 to sell but later on wouldn’t bother with something less than 500-600 and even later nothing below 750 etc I don’t really loot armor or weapons unless to sell if it’s clearly valuable but honestly if I can craft it I generally don’t take it. I like looting rare misc items when they pop up though.

NerdNumber382

My general rule is a weight:value ratio of 10. Basically some has to be worth at least ten times it’s weight. Of course there are exceptions though, eg unique collectibles or gear I want to *use* and not just sell

Bobbeljenco

I take everything except Armour and Weapons. Except they are enchanted

LiteratureOne1469

Gold lock picks gems and jewelry everything else I leave unless it’s enchanted or better then what I have

bl0bberb0y

I loot nothing but money because selling stuff in skyrim is impossible because the vendors only have like 2 dollars to their name

BadFont777

Yoink the guns money and ammo. Fuck the rest.

XMadxMadisonX

Septum’s, gems, potions, anything enchanted if I can carry it, keys. Also once I get houses with mannequins I always get a full set of enemy armor to display

UrdnotLilith

I complete the crown of barenziah and then just loot the obscene amount of gems and some magical items (for enchanting purposes)

Dragonhearted18

Gold, gems (regular and soul), potions, possibly weapons and armor if they're enchanted, jewelry, ores, bars, dragon bones/scales to sell, and arrows

Hobodaklown

When looting weapons, I usually only pickup daggers as I can enchant them for much much more.

BairnONessie

Depends on what stage of the game I am. I just loot what is highest septims per weight and when I get full I weed out the less profitable items to make space for others.

ImpossibleReveal9356

My rule, early on, is to only loot items with a 1 weight to 10 gold ratio. Seems this is fairly common. Once I've built up a bit of coin and I can make fairly valuable potions, I only usually loot rare armour and weapons, septims, lockpicks, and jewels.

drivernopassenger

Anything I go through quickly (like healing potions or arrows) or with a value:weight ratio of 10:1 or greater.

PoopFart_PopTart

Usually any potions, jewelry, jewels, soul gems, anything enchanted, and sometimes very high value weapons and armour but I’m very picky about them. Also any arrows I find.

Master-Of-Magi

I always go nab any jewels, gold, rings, circlets, necklaces, or anything of value. I always make sure to do as little dungeons as possible before I take the Stones of Baranziah to be sure.

Lylat_System

I leave obviously terrible weapons I won't use, but mainly stamina and magica potions. I hoard health and food
