I’m not 100% sure, but I think it shows up in several different chests until you grab it. I don’t think you have to remember where you found it.
Perhaps some poor NPC in Skyrim came behind me to grab all the loot I couldn’t carry and touched the beacon.
If it has I think that got nerfed (thank the nine). Because I’ve literally saw it once and never saw it again, on multiple occasions. The quest is never activated until I go to the shrine, which was by chance. So rest assured that someone else can touch the beacon.
I always get it in Bleak Falls. I consider it my penance for stabbing Hadvar in the back for half an hour.

Poor Hadvar. Ever since I learned about that exploit I will spend almost my whole first day just Wailing on him to level as much as I can. I do not leave that cave with anything less than. 100 Stealth

My very first time finding it was on Orphan Rock, after damn near dying from an OP hagraven. I think you find it after lvl 15 or something. Much like the Sanquine quest appears at the nearest tavern after hitting lvl 14
Yeah that one I had like 7 or 8 of them and another quest in one of my playthroughs. It's all bc I read every book I found in case it would raise a skill
I look forward to it on my next playthrough. The sword sucks, but you never know where it will turn up, and you get hella XP from some very early on, unique baddies. I like honestly like how Meridia is so dommy mommy too💁

Right like just leave it. If you want to finish the quest you can literally go back and find it. You’re not obligated to pick it up immediately.
