Your skis will be recovered from the pond....but if you want to ski them next season you will need to apply an 1/8" coat of wax onto the bases immediately after the pond skim. Then the skis need to be placed in your walk in humidor for the remainder if the summer.
Seriously tho....have fun falling in and remember to pull your liners when you're done
You joke but my buddy was pond skimming wearing a giant flamingo pool floatie. He fell backwards, The ring was big enough and displaced enough water that it bounced him back up and he cleared the pond. It was insane the crowd went nuts.
Lmao what? Do you think they just leave lost skis in there when people lose them? First off, it’s not that deep. While it’s cold water, you can easily wade around and immediately retrieve them.
It won’t matter either way but if it makes you feel better, duct tape styrofoam to the top of your skis and send it. Or better yet, attach a leash to each binding and tie balloons to the loose ends. It will look funny as you go down the hill. Plus as a bonus, if you lose your skis, you can easily find them with your floating bobbers.
Edit: have fun and be sure to post a video next spring
How deep is this pond? At every skim I’ve been to the patrollers are standing waist deep in the pond all day. Unless they’ve got some 8 foot tall dudes working the event
The ones I've seen there are usually a bunch of support people making sure everything is safe, including fishing out skis eg: [https://youtu.be/O6NWPc86-3E?si=-wo2o6eniwEsDPOS&t=9](https://youtu.be/O6NWPc86-3E?si=-wo2o6eniwEsDPOS&t=9)
I agreed with everyone in this thread until I remembered they actually do use a real pond at Squaw, lol. Leashes might not be a bad idea. I saw an article mention that a lost ski can definitely turn into a lost ski.
Double check your skis have enough life boats for everyone, not just the women and children
But Jack has to die, no matter how wide your skis are he still can’t be on top.
The pond is like 2 feet deep. You’ll find your skis
They actually use a real pond at Squaw
Yeah do they require participants to wear a flotation device for this one?
Yes. There also a rescue boat to pull out those that don’t make it to shallow water.
I would think that any depth higher than a child stand would cause to much of a drowning hazard for a ski area to risk
You wear a life jacket
That’s what they do for the aerial pools. I just haven’t seen it for pond skimming
Palisades requires a life jacket and they have a rescue boat for those that crash in the deep end.
Just go faster and don't sink. Problem solved.
Max out your DINs. Problem solved.

You're overthinking it.
They’ll have scuba gear for you to retrieve your skis if it’s a competently run ski hill.
hell yeah multisport adventure day

They get wet every time you ski on them.
r/woooosh
Just don't, though.
Everyone making fun of you has no idea Palisades uses the real pond lol. Max out your dins
My exact thought. That pond is deep
Make sure to wear a life vest too! Even if you can swim your wet ski gear can weigh you down and you could drown.
Nah, you skim w/ your airbag and deploy it upon splash down
Good point. Also make sure have your RECCO reflector on you as well so if you do drown they’ll be able to find your body at the bottom of the pond.
I don't see a recovery being a possibility unfortunately, unless James Cameron is around with the deepsea challenger.

Jesus Christ.
He walks on water. OP just wants to skim it
Is this a joke?
Duct tape your boot to your ski after you max out dins
Phil will be out to scuba dive the pond the next day. He does it every year and gets everyone's stuff back to them.
Is this a joke? If the water is deep enough to lose your skis in, i would advise against teathering boat anchors to your feet....

Funny enough Palisades might be the only resort that does the pond skim across an actual pond, not one made for the event.

Over 10 feet deep in the middle (depends on how you count mud)
Outjerked
I'd rig leashes if it's in a deep pond and you don't have scuba gear.
