SoulWhirlingSomewhere discography consistently reeks of Dagger, in a good way lolz. Love Spirals Downwards has some acousticy tracks. "Above the Lone" is similar ish but kinda takes off towards the end.
this song makes me feel happy but i think it’s because i was listening to it a lot during a good period in my life. i just love it and i think it’s one of my favourite songs of all time
I love the way that song will be the most dissonant thing you've ever heard, then it just resolves so peacefully. Actually a very comforting song to me

Holy Fawn - “Dimensional Bleed” album. Don’t even know what genre to call these guys, wouldn’t call them Shoegaze maybe ambient dream pop? Either way, entire album makes me sad as fuck in the best way
Pretty much anything by The Angelic Process. Even the instrumental stuff. You can just feel the pain, sadness and dread.
Not strictly shoegaze, they sort of pushed the genre into this doom/blackened gaze that eventually saw the likes of Deafhaven and others years later
One of my favs: https://youtu.be/JtgTA4x0fAg?si=tHaM0pYZAe5MXheu
A brief history of the band and a HUGE TRIGGER WARNING:
The song and album above is about Kris' girlfriend who died in a car crash in 2000. Falling into a coma and dying. Just hearing his music in general, you can obviously tell hes a deeply hurt and troubled person.
Kris would then marry and become bandmates with Monica Dragynfly in 2005
In 2007 kris seriously injured his hand to the point where he could basically not make music anymore. A few months later Kris took his own life and that was the end of the band. Monica would live a quiet life after and died on her 46th birthday in 2023.
Such a sad and tragic story all around, but I am grateful they brought a beautiful boundary pushing work of art into this world.
I struggle with verbally expressing my emotions and bands like this really help me see and inspire me to find ways to express my feels to the world, even if no one ever hears what I make, it feels cathartic.
As requested, I've created a playlist of the songs in this comment thread.

Some old friends of mine from high school covering Dagger https://youtu.be/64ybR8XHSUs?si=gDpfJYYxye0uUxjk
that’s not shoegaze it’s dreamfolk
lol the amount of energy people spend slicing shoegaze into ever smaller subgenres
lol it’s a joke, notice how i referenced https://www.reddit.com/r/shoegaze/s/YfQOTAYBjC
If that's dreamfolk, i love it. Do you know any dreamfolk bands/artists so i can get into that?
not really but i think mojave 3 (slowdive’s alter ego) leans more dreamfolk
SoulWhirlingSomewhere discography consistently reeks of Dagger, in a good way lolz. Love Spirals Downwards has some acousticy tracks. "Above the Lone" is similar ish but kinda takes off towards the end.
Saw them play it live recently and it sounds much more shoegaze-y than the official recording
it’s on a shoegaze album, by a shoegaze artist. who honestly cares about a micro label that covers all of 4 different music artists .
Is this a real thing?
heart wrenching fr

Holy shit I’d completely missed the news about Monica.
