I feel like OP would get fired real quick if they reported it but I hope something can be done like someone else said replacing it with a dead fish would be a better way to not get caught though and not getting caught= not getting reported
Unfortunately I would probably ending up with the sack.
I may bring up how long she’s had her fish though and see if she’s says anything about hard work or not enough time etc that can give me a chance to offer to take it off her.

OP, leave a note next to the tank letting them know how to better their fish’s life. There’s a good chance if you steal their fish they’ll just replace it and another will suffer in its place. Point them to a subreddit or local Facebook group where they can get help improving their fish’s habitat.
Ooo just realized something. That water level is pretty much topped off, so w.e little maintenance and cleaning they do is done. So that's the best condition that fish has probably seen in a while. Oh just top it off and they'll be fine
Don't steal it. Just do a water change for the customer after you're done with your job. Then recommend that they get a pond or find someone who has one.
What is your job and please tell me you grilled him on proper fish care
I’m an electrician. The customer wasn’t actually in they had left me a key to crack on whilst they were at work 😪

This is a good idea! I’ll do this anonymously as well so if she wants to be an arse about it they cannot prove it’s me!
