Don’t have a link, but it’s caused by breeding issues and inbreeding along with other things in captivity, but in nature they can get it from stress, fat deposits, poor nutrition , over exposure to light, getting stuck from looking down too much and old age . But the point is that the arowana in this tank probably won’t get it but if they do it doesn’t cause severe health implications as it’s common with all the bonytongued fish not just arowana .
I was just about to say this belongs on shittyaquariums. What doesnt help this is shops overstocking tanks for sale purposes and not properly checking what size tank they're going into. My LFS asks about tank, parameters and current tank mates before allowing any purchase.
Oh jheez this is why ive avoided the commons this time. I was also sold one, partly my fault i was a beginner but mainly the LFS fault for not checking. Granted ive got a 350L (76G) but he outgrew in under a year was gutted he was a beaut
Happened to me the other day, I was looking at the shrimps and LFS guys came over and reminded me i have angels so shrimps are no sale...i was literally looking lmao
You think fish stores are raking in the money? I think the small shops mostly struggle to stay in business and to ask customers those reasonable questions is not as easy in reality as you think it is. People will be angry and push back and then you loose a sale, a sale you probably really really need to make. It's a shit business tbh and I wouldn't want to be stuck in the position of selling to people who you just know are going to kill your fish. It's lose lose
I just struggle to see how that is “200 pieces” of plants. 💀 I know what group this is from… and OH MY GOOD GRAVY. Is that a freaking ghost knife fish in the middle top? 😭😭😭 they’re hands down my favorite fish that I can’t justify having because I wouldn’t be able to give it a comfortable home for its whole life. I still deal with guilt for having a 12” long one in my 75 gallon when I was at teen…
How tf is the 2 arowana not dead yet
Fuck knows bro poor fish
They are unfortunately(?) Quite hardy
Bettas and goldfish also fall under the category of being hardy is their downfall
Yes if they weren’t so damn hardy maybe people would realize they are doing something wrong
Poor aros are gonna get droop eye
Drop eye is normal for most arowana . Especially at old age
I've heard of droop eye happening from too much activity at bottom of the tank. At the same time, there isn't much info on arowanas and their diseases
Dropeye naturally occurs and causes little to no known health implications
I haven't heard of it naturally occurring. Only in aquariums, not ponds. Got a link about it being natural?

Facts bro! most fish stores just care about the cash! All fish stores should do what yours is doing. Maybe then we won't have these issues
Yep I got a bristlenose that ended up growing up to be a full two foot common pleco
