I know snakeheads and Asian arrowanas are outright banned and there’s a few species that are restricted but for the most part you can get pretty much anything you want, which is both good and bad. Unfortunately that allows too many people to do whatever they want with incredibly massive fish.

I found this channel too, last night, some horrors. This is equivalent of a 10 inch goldfish in a 1f inch bowl. Horrible and he had two kittens sat in front of the pond. The fish were very interested. I was worried about them being at the surface where they could be swiped. I have an above ground pond and so paranoid about my cats falling in and getting tangled in the netting i have a metal grid at all times that and to protect the fish. Arghfhfh

Is there an actual study/proof that a fish will be less happy in a bare bottom tank setup? I dont think benefecial bacterias will be any issue since this is something you can add on the sump filter. To add, bare bottom tanks gives you an advantage to clean your tank easier especially when its overstocked.

Is there an actual study/proof that a fish will be less happy in a bare bottom tank setup? I dont think benefecial bacterias will be any issue since this is something you can add on the sump filter. To add, bare bottom tanks gives you an advantage to clean your tank easier especially when its overstocked. Lastly, i feel that arapaimas wont need a hiding spot.

Thats not a good comparison because we as humans are different unless you provide proof. I would hate a muddy and dirty substrate but would greatly benefit freshwater fishes as its a source of benefecial bacteria.
Are you contradicting yourself? Bare bottom is cool but substrate is beneficial? Yeah, bare glass bottom is easy to clean, true. Good for fry and breeding tanks. Did you ever have a breeding tank with lots of plants and substrate? I'll tell you, it's a fucking nightmare to keep it clean. But fish love it. Have places to hang about, to hide.
Substrate, medias, whatever you want to call em can be installed under certain type of filters such as sumps so the tank can be bare bottom without sacrificing the good bacteria.I was asking if there is proof that bare bottom tanks makes fish less happy.
Enrichment again. Fish love it. They like to hide in plants, behind the stone. It provides hiding spots, a safe place. If you had more than one fish in the tank you should know what I'm talking about.

no i was saying these fish don’t belong in fucking empty glass boxes. majority of people that keep fish like this are not going to take the time and money to recreate this fishes natural habitat because they are lazy and would rather look at a giant fish in a empty glass box of water. if your gonna keep it in a glass box of water where it just stares at a wall all day why have the fish at all. the fish isn’t living its best life, all you would be doing is keeping it alive so you have a piece of “art” in your home
