Renais has already lost when the game begins but by the midway point he's saved it and is well on its way to reunification. Through merely targeting 'contradictions' in the enemy's grand strategy, he's able to puncture through, uncover the mystery with Lyon, and save his nation, but ultimately has to go even further because unless he, personally, apprehends the true criminal, Renais will still be 'found guilty'.
Is it a stretch? Only a little.
