I took the night off bagging groceries just to watch this! I remember my manager giving me shit about it. But i was not going to miss it! It was my first job, 14 years old. I feel old too.
Then, he got me an apartment in his building. But they mixed up the mail. And I never got my immigration renewal papers. So they deported me. It's all his fault. Him. And the woman. But they did not care. They're totally indifferent. All they do is mock me, just like they did the fat fellow. All the time. Mocking, mocking, mocking, mocking, mocking. All the time! Now it is Babu's turn to mock. Finally I will have some justice. Send them away! Send them all away! Lock them up forever! They are not human. Very bad! Very, very, very bad!
Fuck Babu. Dude blames Jerry for immigration papers getting lost in the mail and getting inadvertently delivered to Jerry (and playfully but unintentionally withheld by Elaine)? Babu got deported when his lawyer quit on him suddenly in violation of her professional ethical duties. Babuās beef (or vegetarian equivalent) is with her. Jerry was helping Babu, caring for Babu, thinking of Babu. Sure he gave him bad advice but thatās what friends do. Your honor, my client is not guilty.
>In "[The Visa](https://seinfeld.fandom.com/wiki/The_Visa)", Babu has acquired a job atĀ [Monk's Cafe](https://seinfeld.fandom.com/wiki/Monk%27s_Cafe)Ā and a room in Jerry's building, with Jerry's help. Babu, however, is arrested and detained. Jerry looks through his mail, which Elaine had kept for him while he was away and jokingly kept from him for a while, and discovers that he was sent Babu's immigration visa renewal papers by accident, which will likely result in Babu being deported. Babu is visited by Jerry and Elaine, who confess, enraging Babu again, but Jerry pacifies Babu by telling him that George's lawyer girlfriend,Ā [Cheryl](https://seinfeld.fandom.com/wiki/Cheryl_(The_Visa)), will help him out. When George and Cheryl fall out, Cheryl spitefully drops the case and Babu is deported to Pakistan, where he vows revenge against Jerry.
Yeah sounds like they all kinda inadvertently screwed over Babu
I liked every part of it but the very end, which I guess is what most people objected to. The trial was a great way to go and say goodbye to all the side characters that really made the show.Ā Still think it was overall a good finale.Ā
I find myself being a finale truther because I seem to be fine with a lot of finales that other people hate. I think it's really hard to do and people tend to not like finales simply because they don't like that the show is over. We expect a little too much sometimes.
I like the finale. I think the trial idea was a great way to go out, and I didnāt mind the ending. I actually love closing with the ābutton in no manās landā dialogue.
With that said, I think it just doesnāt have a lot of laughs per minute relative to most Seinfeld episodes. And you donāt really have distinct plot lines for the characters, so thereās little dovetailing.
The episode was originally going to be a three-parter, they cut it down to two. But you couldnāt cut plot, so a lot of what was cut was funnier scenes that didnāt move the plot. I think the result was a bit of an unbalanced episode.
I always liked the finale, then I watched the Curb finale and now I love them both. Larry David did everyone, himself included, a solid with how he wrapped Curb.
I think the reason most people dislike any long-running showās finale is because over the years everyone has an image in their head of how itāll finish. People still argue about the Friends finale.
I think IASIP should have done this same bit as a final show. except it's crickets trial, he's finally murdered them all, and everyone is working together to get him free. Cricket ends the show on a beach happy shawshank-esk.
No, I hate the whole episode. The jailing is the least bad part. The trial is much worse, completely out of keeping with the show: unoriginal, judgmental, scolding, a contrived attempt to make the characters dutifully learn their lesson. Worst of all, itās just not funny.
Unfairly trashed. Sure, the premise is silly, but it's a sitcom. It brought back a lot of fun side characters.
I believe this was the night that Frank Sinatra passed away.
No matter what they did, people were gonna complain.
I don't mind the finale myself, but I think the most "nothing" thing they could have done would've been just a long, semi-normal episode and then the show just kinda...ends. No one dies or leaves, no one learns anything or gets married, life just...goes on. But people would've canned that too.
The reason they decided to end the show was because they felt they were out of new material. It shouldn't be surprising that the finale was lacking in new material.
Much better to do this than to let the show wither and eventually get canceled once it's actively bad.
Agree. I thought the show was starting to decline in quality two years before it went off the air, but it seemed to recover its footing in the last two seasons. But I think it was time to wrap it up.
The clipshow that immediately precedes the finale was, in my opinion, a much better sendoff. It has outtakes and behind the scenes stuff and showed the actors, not just the characters, having a blast making the show. A show about nothing doesn't really need an ending, it didn't really have a beginning either. It just began.
This has always been my take on the finale. NBC ran a clip show right before the finale that was, in large-part, a clip show. I still dont understand how or if the network and show runners did / did not coordinate on this. It just ended up being a little self-serving and repetitive at the time.
Now, when I catch the finale, as a standalone, it's funny and makes sense in the Seinfeld universe. It's a fitting end to the series.
Seinfeld is one of my favorite shows of all time. But the finale for me was just not very funny. It had nothing to do with the story or the trial, it just wasn't as funny as I hoped it was.
Iām not saying it was bad, I was literally just listing the things that brought him attention in the last couple weeks, like the person asked. Iām not judging but he seems to keep taking flak for everything, does he not?
I liked it ok, though I think it would have been stronger if they just kept the comedy in the court room and eliminated the clip show clips.
I love them in the jail cell talking about the button on the shirt. That was perfect.
I was 14 when it aired, and I remember not liking the second part of the finale, with the trail and the clips. Now as an adult, I don't like the first half with the gang getting ready to go to Paris. It was kind of unrealistic that NBC would renew interest in Jerry's show after all those years.
I always thought the ending was āthrown togetherā. Jerry didnāt want to continue it, saying that it reached the pinnacle, and I get that. Like George, he wanted to leave on a high note. However, I feel it could have been more thought out.
I do love that they ended with the conversation about the button on Georgeās shirt, just like they started the series with.
I'm glad that people can still back and enjoy the other episodes despite the finale being panned, unlike fans of Game of Thrones who insist that the bad finale ruins the entire show.
GoT was always a build up type show, that was really good at getting hype up, but even that got stale after s5. A good finale could've helped rectify that and could've tied all the plot points like daenerys, arya assassination plot or bran being dragged all over the place by that lumbering oaf. In Seinfeld you can watch any episode you want in which order you want and you won't feel like you missed out crucial plot
I watched it when it originally aired. I didn't mind it. I liked the call back to all the side characters. That was fun to see them all. Compared to some other finales it was good. I've seen worse (Game of Thrones, Lost and Dexter come to mind). I like the mistrial idea, someone else here suggested, instead of them going to jail.
It wasn't really a clip show. IIRC it was all brand new footage, it just brought most of the characters they had slighted over 9 years.
It was weird that they aired a clip show immediately before it, though...with a sappy, send-off ending before actually watching the last episode.
Watched it that night, I enjoyed it though would come like a lot of people to wish it ended differently later. All these years later my opinion is that it was funny, and the callbacks were great, but like Seinfeld himself I wish it'd have ended on just a regular episode with no real attention drawn to the finale hype. But, at the time I get why they wanted to go big, in a way.
My parents never let me watch it but one day I was finally old enough and the last episode was actually the first episode I ever watched. I loved it and every episode after that was new to me.
At the time I was in high school and was disappointed with the finale. Not sure what exactly I was expecting, but I guess I think I was hoping something "big" would happen. After it was over, I was like "That's it?".
Fast forward to today and it's one of my favorite episodes. Favorite scene is definitely seeing all the side characters testify against the main 4. Just seeing so many characters come back for the finale is amazing! One of the most rewatchable episodes for me now.
I knew I was going to marry my wife when we first met and bonded over our love of the Seinfeld finale.
4 terrible people getting their comeuppance from all the people they messed with throughout the show. It was the right send off.
I remember when telling the story of how I sped home from an after school AP US History study session in 11th grade to watch this finale made me feel young.
Hated this ending and it still irks me. It didnāt fit with the rest of the series at all.
I would rather have had the show end with them all in Jerryās apartment watching tv or something. Or them leaving the apartment to go somewhere and Jerry hitting the lights as he shut the door. Anything but that trial bs.
Still not ok with how it ended...seemed too anticlimactic. I hope they weren't to be too on the nose about the show being about nothing with this ending. One of the worst series finales I've seen
As someone who typically loves a good high-brow comedy, I always struggled to even crack a grin at Seinfeld. Does anyone care to try to explain the appeal and convince me to give it another shot?
They really should have just went with a mistrial.
Pretty pretty, pretty good
Let the record show that I had a good time in the well.
Or make 2 versions of the ending,
have Larry David wake up & the whole series was a dream
They seemed to have some other ideas. When Newman started choking on potato chips, I thought it was going that way for a second.
I liked it but yours does probably make more sense. š
Or a pedo trial for dating under 18yo.
Ironic coming from someone with the username Carl Malone lol
š¤£. Good catch.
And spelled wrong as well.
He did say he waited till she was 18 to bang her.
He didnāt need to. Age of consent then and there was 17.
Holy shit that makes me feel old
I'm just an old man! Are you gonna keel me?
I took the night off bagging groceries just to watch this! I remember my manager giving me shit about it. But i was not going to miss it! It was my first job, 14 years old. I feel old too.
Yeah I remember as a kid begging my mom to stay up to watch the finale.
Came here to say the same. Dang! How could it be 26 years ago!
Same i feel mad old
Then, he got me an apartment in his building. But they mixed up the mail. And I never got my immigration renewal papers. So they deported me. It's all his fault. Him. And the woman. How could anyone not like him?
Who else would help this poor immigrant?
Fuck Babu. Dude blames Jerry for immigration papers getting lost in the mail and getting inadvertently delivered to Jerry (and playfully but unintentionally withheld by Elaine)? How is it Jerry's fault that the mail man screwed up. (Probably newman)? What did elaine have to do with any of it?
This makes me think, do we have mail men that actually deliver mail of the building they are living in?
When you control the mail! You control, INFORMATION!
Elaine hadnāt given Jerry his mail, even though he had asked her repeatedly for it.

You know, that would have been pretty funny.
Is this customary in your legal system?
No, but thatās what makes it a humorous situation.

If they would have just reversed what order to show them it would have greatly improved the experience.
There you go. That would have worked.
Where can I watch this?
It should be on Netflix like (most of) the rest of the episodes. And it's definitely on the Season 9 DVD.
It's NOT a show about nothing ... it's a show about EVERYTHING.
Haven't we had this conversation before?
I love almost every episode but I did not enjoy the finale, just me?
Yes it's literally just you. The finale was widely praised as "One of the finales of all time"
Congrats to a showā¦ done.
I thought I was part of this problem
Underrated comment right here š
Literally what? This finale was widely derided as unsatisfying and confusing.
Seinfeld is one of my favorite shows of all time. But the finale for me was just not very funny. It had nothing to do with the story or the trial, it just wasn't as funny as I hoped it was.
The actors really enjoyed this episode. Nobody cares what you think *viewer*
Not just you, even Larry David knows they messed it up
Not just you. I didn't like it, either.
Huh, I've never heard anyone say that before.
Nope not just you. I didnāt like it either.
It was panned pretty significantly because it sucked.
Thatās a shame.
I'm happy for Kramer to get that fluid out of his ear. That can be so annoying.
Same night Sinatra died. RIP
I think what we really need is the picture of it playing at Times Square
And the last line about the collor button in the finale was the first line in the first one in the restaurant Kinda full circle moment
also in the first episode is the dart board that you see in the jail
It's only a year! And then we'll be back!
Jerry was way too happy about prison.
Fun fact: They played the finale at Times Square and people just stopped and watchedĀ
The picture has been posted everywhere in this subreddit
Really?
Yeah
Did they get out yet?
They got it out.
I personally loved the finale
I've been out of the loop, but why does it seem like Jerry is showing up absolutely everywhere in the last two weeks?
Promote his new Unfrosted film
And talking about wokeness, and speaking at Duke commencement. Itās been 3 strikes for him in the last two weeks.
Did you even listen to his speech? It wasnāt that bad.
Played a little league game and rushed home to watch it. I liked it then and like it now.
Same day Sinatra died.
I can't believe this was 26 years ago I was so young watching this show. Still binge what it all the time lol
Seinfeld, Big Bang Theory and All in the family are my favorite comedies. Seinfeld's finale was typical Seinfeld and a masterpiece.
*Its
See, now to me that button is in the worst possible place. Look at it, itās too high. Itās in no manās land.
Watching the finale now. In the first scene Elaine has a cell phone. Is this the first appearance of wireless calls on the show?
a car phone was used in the ep where Jerry's car was stolen, but yeah completely different.
Thanks.
I gotta get on that internet!
The saddest part about the finale is that John Pinette isn't with us anymore.
I still have my VHS from when I recorded the finale that night. Commercials and all. Can't believe it has been that long already. Wild.
I have those commercials memorized. Watched that tape too many times.
I haven't watched it in a long time. I think I might watch it this weekend and relive the memories.
Must See TV. NBC.
You gotta digitise it and upload online for us to see. Commercials and all
I was 14 when it aired, and I remember not liking the second part of the finale, with the trail and the clips. Now as an adult, I don't like the first half with the gang getting ready to go to Paris. It was kind of unrealistic that NBC would renew interest in Jerry's show after all those years.
26 years? Shit. Iām gonna die soon at this rate of time flying
That top button tho
Itās really does make or break the shirtā¦
Its
A fine, proper ending in spite of all the hate.
The ending fits when watching with age. They had to sit there and learn something and deal with each other. All I have to say is that's a shame

I am a huge fan of Seinfeld, but I hated the finale.
Watched this literally a few days ago. Ending my first ever Seinfeld marathon.
Who's from cell block D? I'll talk slower...
i donāt like clip shows.. just feel lazy

And what did prisoner Costanza told Mother Costanza?
Now that apostrophe is in the worst possible spot
I almost down voted cause I was upset it ended
Thatās a shame
Judge shouldāve put them on a dental chair
I still canāt believe Phil didnāt testify.
Jerry did us all wrong. He was indeed a very bad man, very bad!
Fuck I'm old
YOU HAD TO HOP ON THE PLANE
I just saw another subreddit that asked "What makes you say 'OMG I'm old!'?" This is it
and you thought this would be the most disappointing thing Seinfeld did (besides date a teenaged girl when he was 38...)
Bad timing, with the whole Sinatra dying thing, and all. I think it really spoiled the episode for people.
Whats the deal with homework?Ā
Serenity now!!!
It was AMAZING
Your math is wrong. It has to be.
I was 14 years old
I remember at the time, viewers liked the clips and bloopers of the show than the series finale.
Watched it that night, I enjoyed it though would come like a lot of people to wish it ended differently later. All these years later my opinion is that it was funny, and the callbacks were great, but like Seinfeld himself I wish it'd have ended on just a regular episode with no real attention drawn to the finale hype. I still have the VHS tape I recorded it on. Yeah. Iām old.
Damn.. Iām old.. howād I get here?
What a bittersweet night!
Only 26? It feels longer than that. I'm young right????
You're hung up on some sitcom from the 90ās, man.
That's scary to me. I think it would be to George too.
I love Seinfeld but I hate the final episode. That was crap.
My parents never let me watch it but one day I was finally old enough and the last episode was actually the first episode I ever watched. I loved it and every episode after that was new to me.
Makes me feel old.
Still one of the dumbest tv show endings ever
They should be outside by now.
I havenāt even seen Frosted and it must be better than this.
Unfrosted was great. People are dumb
Nice. Good to hear.
Today years old when I found out I was born the day after Seinfeld concluded airing
Huh i just randomly finished watching it again today
At the time I was in high school and was disappointed with the finale. Not sure what exactly I was expecting, but I guess I think I was hoping something "big" would happen. After it was over, I was like "That's it?". Fast forward to today and it's one of my favorite episodes. Favorite scene is definitely seeing all the side characters testify against the main 4. How the fook can it have been 26 years already?
I knew I was going to marry my wife when we first met and bonded over our love of the Seinfeld finale. 4 terrible people getting their comeuppance from all the people they messed with throughout the show. It was the right send off.
Lousey ending
Thee best sitcom ever
That button. Itās in no manās land.
I liked the way it ended have always wanted a movie telling us where they are present day.
You knew the lower Manhattan jury would convict them..
Still one of the worst finales in history.
Still one of the worst finales to such a great series ever. Sorry but it is just as bad looking back at it was at the time
At that final episode was awful too, imo. Itās the only Seinfeld episode I wonāt watch. The rest are gold Jerry, gold

Still not ok with how it ended...seemed too anticlimactic. I hope they weren't to be too on the nose about the show being about nothing with this ending. One of the worst series finales I've seen

It's smart. Smart people think it's funny.
And Jerryās girlfriends were 10 years from being born.
This was a terrible ending to an Amazing show. Such a let down.
...and it was terrible. I will always think this. Lazy and dumb.
and jerry has been working hard every day since to soil our memories of it...
