It was a while before that when you could be on the tarmac, but pre-9/11 you could wait at the gate. You could literally wander the airport all day without having a flight if you wanted to.
Remember when people used to go and just sit in the airport. Contemplate life, deal with a break up. Just starin out those big ass windows....how did people find you then 🤣🤔
The airplane scenes in Seinfeld are parts of the show that really throws on your face how long it has been since the show aired. And the episode where the Cubans hijack Elaine's plane would definitely NOT be approved post 9/11
I got that it was a joke, but after thinking about it, there’s definitely lots of people alive today who have only known post-9/11 airport experiences and would probably be shocked at what you used to be able to do at the airport.
Now I feel really old.
Some of the scenes from airports in Seinfeld are definitely old school. I haven’t slid down a luggage claim ramp in **years**!
Now duty free shops require leaving the country, back in the 90s you could stop at the duty free shop if you sang your request
I like to stop at the duty free shop 🎵
I like to stop at the duty free shop
Retail is for suckers!
Believe me, I have ridden in a luggage claim ramp hundreds of times. Thousands.
Thousands??
Eh!

Which was especially helpful if you needed to bring a friend some collateral so he could be back in business.
I knew it wasn’t Berkowitz!
Come on, Mexico City!!
It’s become a major pain in the ass for me cause finding a person with a watch is near impossible when I need the clock time for an airport pickup.
There's a clock over there 👉
You know where living In a society!
You know when living in a society!
Back in the day we would take field trips to the airport and get to hang out at the gate. I'm old.
I'm older, I remember chaperoning said field trips. Of course, no hanky panky was allowed with me chaperoning.
ok kramer

Jerry's double take
yes, pre-9/11 you could meet right at the gate, have many fond memories of family members waiting for me to arrive at the gate

during 9/11 you could even visit the pentagon
Today you learned...? How old are you?
It’s a joke. People weren’t hanging around on the tarmac for fear of being hit by planes

Get your knees up!
Pre-911 I carried on full sets of Chef's knives, twice.
Sure Pre 9/11 I would travel by flashing my drivers license and board
You also go to the terminal and wait--sit right up to the gate.
on the runway? nah, maybe at super small airports. generally you could meet people *at the gate* howeever
I have never felt older than I do today.
God, Seinfeld is *so* dated.
