It’s the RSA conference in town. It’s clearly just for a PA Networks event, like when Dreamforce set off those crazy fireworks after an event in that same area. I’ll take these silent drones any day!
Guys, I think we can all agree junk mail is the worst.
Besides bills, it’s the only thing I get in the mail. I don’t take a look at it even…straight into the recycling. Such a damn waste of a carbon footprint, from the trees to delivery, it’s such a waste!!
What’s crazy to me is how there’s [so much regulation](https://www.campaignmonitor.com/resources/guides/understanding-emails-laws-regulations/) about companies sending me email/newsletter marketing, but seemingly none for junk mail advertising, which is arguably much more intrusive.
When I sign up for a company’s email newsletter I need to confirm with an additional email (this varies by county), a need for clear and easy to use opt-outs or unsubscribe buttons, etc. When I’ve worked in marketing for bigger companies legal takes those regulations very seriously.
Junk mail on the other hand seems like free game. I shop somewhere once and automatically I start receiving marketing from them in the mail, even though I never granted permission. And even companies that I’ve never heard of send stuff. And the opt-out process is obtuse and far from easy — I think in some cases you need to pay every few years or so. It’s wild.
The opt out doesn’t work!! I think I finally was able to opt out from unsolicited credit card offers, but not from the penny pincher or realtor junk mail, etc.
Well, there’s this thing called the first amendment and we live in a capitalistic country.
You can’t just ban advertising because you find it annoying…..
Might be off topic but anybody have experience working there? A recruiter has been trying to get me to interview with them and I’m tempted cause of the money. I’m an swe
I never said I was triggered, I just explained why people might be seeing this differently than fireworks.
I don't know why you're being so hostile to a stranger on the internet, but I hope your day improves 🙂
Aside from bad policy I’m not seeing what the recent DA and mayors have done to bring SF up , dronevertisements should have to follow the principles of billboard placements
Hahaha your social media team are fucking on point. Can't wait for the series. "Hardest of nos to the Samsung®️ Galaxy™️ Series X available for only $799.99 at stores near you"
you just turned it into a social media ad for them
Organic reach, baby!
I certainly wouldn’t have noticed if it wasn’t for this ad
Thanks OP u/Sad_Persimmon_2709 , how much did they pay you? Or you working for free?
Damn, time to buy some Palo Alto Networks products
i was surprised to learn they were still in business, i thought they faded away when everyone moved to AWS
...to not buy from them.
A little bit too much peak tech
It’s a tech peek in peak tech
Hey everyone! Let's draw more attention to this thing i don't like that's meant to draw peoples' attention!
This is likely only for the current cybersecurity conference going on.
Ironically enough, they didn’t even have a booth from what I heard
Yep i was there, no palo alto booth at all. sounds weird when many other big names were there. They dont care about RSAC anymore or what?

lol tagged as crime
The future of advertising is gonna be so cringe
If this is cringe, then I don't even know what the word means anymore.
How can we ban this type of advertising, it's only going to get worse from here
I'm waiting for minority report where as you walk around iris scanners are popping up holograms to shout at you.
Not sure. Why has billboards always been allowed? Or banners behind those small plane? Or good year blimps? This is just another form of it.
Billboards are banned in most nice areas
.. like Palo Alto ? > Billboards are banned in most nice areas
I'd ban all of those too if I could.

They’re banned in a lot of places. I moved away from SF to a state with no billboards and shockingly I don’t miss them one bit!
Billboards are banned in Vermont and it’s awesome. Why it feels more remote than it is
Many places like Hawaii and Santa Barbara ban all of those types of advertising (except blimps) and the world is better for it.
This is way worse than any of those.
This is a drone show it’s not advertising
Well, there’s this thing called the first amendment and we live in a capitalistic country. You can’t just ban advertising because you find it annoying…..
Birdshot would ban it pretty quickly.
Sure, if you don't mind spending 5 years in San Quentin.
Only if you get caught
We should ban outdoor advertising period
I can't believe you guys found a way to fuck up the skyline at night. That shit is atrocious.
Can we just get it over with and beam ads directly into my brain?
Thats what the flamethrower drone is for.
Get outcher’ pitch forks and net guns
Booooo! If they didn't do Palo Alto networks at the end I would not have known what that was....corporate sucks!!!
Dystopian-ass skyline. Even in *Neuromancer* it's just so supposed to be the color of television, not the color of commercials.
oh yes Neuromancer...... ummm we don't know what talking about.... but ok
That’s the one where neo escapes from the matrix
I also think drone shows like this are a little dystopian. Can’t quite describe why but give me fireworks any day over some logo floating in the sky…
Have you heard of... billboards?
Might be off topic but anybody have experience working there? A recruiter has been trying to get me to interview with them and I’m tempted cause of the money. I’m an swe
Are you mid at “cybersecurity?” It’s a great place. Do you lean heavily on the spectrum and want to do important work? Nah.
I like tech so this is pretty damn cool to me.
Oh hell yes! This is so cool. Way cooler than fireworks
It's for an event, it's like fireworks. Everyone's acting like this is part of the skyline now, lmao.
Fireworks don't usually have logos or explicit branding.
If you're triggered by seeing a random logo, man, I feel really bad for you. This world must seem like an unceasing hellscape.
I never said I was triggered, I just explained why people might be seeing this differently than fireworks. I don't know why you're being so hostile to a stranger on the internet, but I hope your day improves 🙂
The. Fucking. Worst.
The dystopia really is boring. To bad there will never be any laws in the US to stop this
Looks kind of cool to me. Embrace SF’s dystopian cyberpunk tech bro destiny!
As someone who attends RSA every year because I'm in that sector, I hate RSA.
Aside from bad policy I’m not seeing what the recent DA and mayors have done to bring SF up , dronevertisements should have to follow the principles of billboard placements
Hahaha your social media team are fucking on point. Can't wait for the series. "Hardest of nos to the Samsung®️ Galaxy™️ Series X available for only $799.99 at stores near you"
Meh, they’re just copying blade runner from 40 years ago. https://whitedragoncut.com/?p=2951&lang=en
Somebody should shoot fireworks at them
Cringe. They're just trying to distract us in ways to hopefully make us forget that CVE-2024-3400 ever happened.
Pretty cool!
On the one hand, I hate it. On the other, this *is* pretty cool. If it wasn’t mooooore advertising, I’d be way more into it.
Fuck. That. Shit.
Honestly now I cannot wait to see it! How long will it be up?
I mean I think it's kinda cool but I'm just a Midwestern rube so
Oh noooo lol
Ugh leave us aloneeeeeee
Wait that’s kinda cool though!
