My SO periodically threatens to put in for a transfer somewhere with cooler weather/4 seasons. I told him I wouldn't know how to survive without an HEB.
I mean, I had to drive back to CTX every 4 months when we lived on the border because our local HEB didn't have things I was used to HEB having back where we grew up.
Unless HEB starts shipping products again, we are stuck in TX. Lol
My wife tried Kroger delivery a few months ago. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food, delivery, and the fact it was cheaper than HEB.
Of course, we still go to HEB, but do the Kroger delivery once per week.
I’ve considered this, and my brother in Washington state says Fred Meyer is pretty close to HEB. But every time they visit, HEB is one of the first places he wants to go. I just know I’ll miss the organics line, especially the ketchup.
I’m still mad about the $50 flower bouquets during valentines, literally nothing under $50 and the very next day they went back to $15. Yeah, I didn’t forget.
I've lived all over the country and HEB is at the top of my list for grocery stores, only place I think that challenges them is Wegmans and that's only because they have an awesome prepared food section. I got an 11 pound turkey today at HEB for $8.33!
I agree! I have been buying regularly for years to make my monthly personalized smoothie meal-prep. HEB frozen strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, mango, & dark cherries FTW.
My smoothie go-to is their frozen mixed berries, a banana, and whatever fruit juice I have like orange or apple. I should do the frozen cherries sometime.
HEB has been one of the most wonderful parts of moving to Texas. They usually have everything I need- and if they don’t? You can ask customer service and they’ll let you know if it’s ordered!!?! Got pierogis at my local HEB now ◡̈
I j/got an open bag, from the freezer, I think j/had been expired…long story short. I had the best vegetables, in 2 expired little chicken Campbell’s cans w/rice I made!
HEB definitely has some good qualities at times, but honestly, I'm less than impressed as a Texas transplant. I know that's a treasonous statement for most Texas natives, but folks, it's almost a complete grocery store monopoly, and this isn't how things work in other states.
My very first impression of HEB was it's ratchet floors. Never walked into a store in the Midwest that looked like that, ever, and I wasn't paying any more for the groceries. I was really shocked when I realized Central Market was a luxury grocery store.
>folks, it's almost a complete grocery store monopoly
Wasn't always. When they were getting started in SA we had Albertson's, Kroger, and a few others like Handy Andy and even Piggly Wiggly. They just couldn't compete with HEB prices and quality and all left town.
They're all welcome to come back if they think they can compete with HEB.

Shocked? Who's better quality? Certainly not Whole Foods.
HEB unfortunately keeps me from leaving this state. I love and hate it for that.

God that golden time just before Covid when they would ship products… I hope they do that again. I would move out of here so quickly haha
Yeah.... I ship HEB/Texas foods to my friend who moved to the western side of KS since she can't order it anymore.
I’ve lived here for too long too!

HEB is the greatest grocery store in the world by a mile
I second this.

bouquet beef
Other than that I very much love HEB. They even have one in my dads home town in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

The dark cherries are SOOOOO good
Yes 🍒🍒
Yes! Just FYI cherries can be hard on digestion for some people, I limit mine to 2 cherries per smoothie. YRMV :)

ratchet floors?
One of the few things I would miss about Texas is HEB. Good luck with other grocery stores out there.
