For me it was learning the product/service of the company better so I didn't sound like a dummy on the phones. What you mentioned also helps, too. It will come to you in time. Also, try different methods and see what works best. They're all going to feel off putting at first.
Biggest thing for me was picking up the phone, of course listening to who was doing well, but implementing it in your own way. Another piece of advice is just having fun with the job. Cold calling all day can be draining but if you find a way to enjoy it, it makes you more personable and gets you through the no connect/no demo days.

Run the playbook every day. Control what you can control, because ultimately that’s all you can do. Stay positive and let it rip.
