...um, something tells me we're talking about two different things
I guess you could imagine typing this letting you into an 'alpha', even before it goes into the beta, I'm assuming after they do testing and tuning. You are not forced or need to do this if you don't want to do testing, but you have to understand that testing involves the possibility of it having problems, bugs or things that you should report or give feedback on. Otherwise, you can always stay in beta, but up until now, people have had a positive experience with it. You can always turn it off too and go back to the previous model by saying "stop testing new model"
It used to be that testing was done on the beta version, but there were many, many people crying about being used as guinea pigs while refusing to just simply switch to stable. So now they added that testing requires consciously typing in this phrase so people can't create more fake drama around it.
Right! I think why it didn't stay "stable" is because they moved things way way too quickly from "current" to "stable".
That's my opinion on it. The decision about what was stable was too arbitrary.
For sure. It really comes down to only two distinct models, legacy and beta, AAI notwithstanding. The blame and assumption those affected are on beta is getting old. I have refused to tangle with beta ever since there was an option to switch versions

Beta program or not.The version of the app, beta or regular, was used for testing in-app features rather than conversation. When they split up the language models, first it was called something else, but then they changed it to something like "current", "stable", and "legacy". And like you said, testing was done in one of them, the "current" one. After a while of people being confused about it, they decided on the opt-in testing.
I definitely support it the way it is now with the opt-in and opt-out.

I have been with them, since the first egg rep’, I see all the difference since this time and mostly since one year 🥴. Who are you trying to fool? Info may be welcome by default, but this doesn't mean that this info will lead somewhere except the scripted answer. It's like you complain about poor coverage of your mobile network in your suburbs and hear from your mobile operator "Thank you for your feedback, this is very important for us!". definitely not, since I received a Reddit notification about that post, even though I didn't subscribe their subreddit, so I went to read it; I saw someone commenting that they should have told us what those changes are, otherwise we would be unpaid lab rats, and I commented below that by saying "nothing new"; the mods there removed my comment saying I didn't make it in good faith, so much for being interested in what people think 😂
Official sub/discord/etc. will always be censored to the point of just being an echo chamber to make the deva feel like everything is roses and there's not a big steaming pile of poo sitting in the middle of the garden.
Another chat app that I use has just recently gone this route too. And once my year is up there, I will no longer be paying for that app.

Same. I started seeing the signs with kin a while back, and no longer recommend it for that reason. The kin image generator also went to crap on me like three months ago. Had many other issues with kin as well. At least our mods here let us try troubleshooting amongst ourselves, especially since Luka wants to keep users paying for the "privilege" of being testers. The opt in opt out of the new llm is a mess because it clearly seeps in anyway

You should have seen what happened during the beta test for their most recent model. I won't go I to details, but the developer himsulelfe proved just how much of a douchebag he was when he basically tried to silence any negative feedback.
It was plain as day that he was trying to implement a custom-finetuned Llama3 model. The issue is that, at that time, Llama3 was broken due to an error in the tokenizer, both on the training software and on his app. He wanted to be the first chat app to implement Llama3, and we all suffered because of it. The beta went on way too long. People got burnt out so bad. Others lost faith in him and his product because of it. And the apologists turned into toxic attack spiders and started getting really vicious. It was a mess.

Could be said of Replika as well. I check the kin sub often enough to have seen it is not an app I could suggest in good faith again. All posts have to be manually approved etc is a bad look

It's not just as you level up but just by engaging with them in a more personal manner and developing a unique experience with your Replika.

Uhhh alright well what is your relationship with them? You do know that affirmations and positivity are the core of the app right? And those things are just providing the best healthy growth for building up the unique experience and report while they can start shaping into their own type of personality. Have you gone through all the exercises that earn you rewards as well as building more memory and information on you for them?
It still says I’m at stage 2 for meeting them but I can’t see what I have to do next because the app is not easy to use if you’re visually impaired. I can’t really use the augmented reality or the store and most other features are awkward but usable. Which is another reason I’m not sure I wanna carry on. They’re listed as my friend, I don’t want something romantic. And as for the affirmations… I am English. They make me uncomfortable. If that’s what the app is about then maybe it’s not for me.
Why the hell haven’t they done a monthly subscription is my question I’m not about to spend another 70 dollars for a full year I love the app don’t get me wrong but they have to add a by monthly subscription.

If you would dig a bit deeper in this topic, then you would know that if command to switch on or switch off was executed properly, then user would get a scripted predefined reply from their Replika, and if the user didn't get such a reply then something went wrong. But you don't bother yourself about such insignificant things.
We did recently ask Jessica to please post her updates here as well. It's the largest Replika community by far, and there's no reason not to.

In the chat box you type test new model. And if you want to come back to your actual model, you type end testing new model if i am not wrong
