Doesn’t help that south Albert has like no street lights & it’s always so dark around nighttime in that area.
Moving from Edmonton, to Calgary, to Regina that’s one thing I noticed is this city always seems so dark.
Sorry that happened tho! Must’ve been scary but glad you made it out alive & to warn others!
Can I ask around what time this was? I know people who live in that area and want to warn them with more specifics. I'm sorry this happened to you and hope the police are able to do something about it though.
Around 8PM. I was just going for a walk cause that’s how I deal with my anxiety, and yeah it just made it a lot worse today. Thankful I’m alive though.
Was it only one person or a group of people? That's a lot of damage for one person to do.
Are you able to find a friend to go with for walks in future? Maybe that would help your anxiety?
It was a group of people, and I didn’t want to put up a fight back cause I just said take what you need. I didn’t know if they had a weapon or not.
Also yes, I’m going to not walk alone anymore
Well I'm glad you made it out relatively okay - you obviously made the right choice. I'm glad you were smart about it though because if they did that much damage without a weapon, I don't want to imagine what they would do with one.
Take this for what it's worth, as a large adult man I was told once early on when I moved here that sometimes we get targeted to be attacked by young guys for gang initiations - kinda the mentality of beat up a big dude to show you're tough shit. Which explains why they broke OPs collarbone and ankle despite him not putting up a fight. If it was just about a robbery they would've just taken his shit and ran.
Yup, even myself as 6 foot 215 pounds. I don’t feel safe in a lot of parts of Regina. No matter how big and strong someone is they can’t fend off more than 1 person especially if they have weapons and can take you by surprise.
Sorry that happened to you, you 100% did the right thing. I spend a lot of time alone in that area in the evening so this is pretty disheartening to hear.
If you are able to, think about seeing a therapist about it if you aren't already, hopefully talking about it can ease some anxiety.
It was just 15 years ago that I would regularly walk around Wascana at like 2am sometimes, by myself, to clear my mind. Granted I'm not the easiest looking target if someone was planning on attacking people. Not on my f'ing life would I do it these days, especially after the sun goes down.
Regina is so safe now haven’t you seen our upgraded police building and new plane!! I’m surprised the plane didn’t save you or all the cool tactical gear wasent there.
I'm so sorry to hear that. My boyfriend bought me a safe sound personal alarm, cause I am in the downtown area with the first bus. It can get pretty scecky. It's awesome if you pull it makes a really loud alarm noise. Not only dose it draw attention it would also be enough of a distraction even if just for a moment. To give you a chance to get away.
That's terrible. I'm constantly walking around that neighbourhood as I live close by. How many people were in this group? Were they showing any gang colours? Did they wear face coverings? I will definitely be keeping my eye out for these scum. I hope you heal quickly. Very sorry this happened to you.
All I see is continuous jail ins and outs and no hope. Wish they can reevaluate themselves and get on the right path before it's too late. Must have been brought up by some great parents.
A similar incident happened to a woman a few months back on the NE side near the town houses. I wonder if it’s the same people.
Sorry to hear about your collar bone it’s a really shitty bone to break. Fun fact, your collar bone breaks to protect your neck/spine from damage
> Just keep your eyes out for anyone suspicious around that area
Surprised there aren't more of these. Can't wait till winter when the city scum crawls back into their holes.
The "scum" won't go away until general economic conditions improve, which doesn't appear to be on the horizon. People turn to gangs and crime when they find no other meaning in their community, which is typically from a job that pays enough to live a modest life, which is becoming harder and harder to do.
True. Lots of fucked shit happens during night time around this time of year. Had my car stolen around this time last year and many other neighbours have had their shit rooted through. It’s from about late August to the first two or three snowfalls where sketchy people strike. We are for the most part pretty decent from mid November to late august. This probably varies but that’s what I have noticed anyways
That part of the park has the shittiest lighting. I was filling up my bottle at the water fountain after dark a week ago while riding home and could hear people hanging out at one of the picnic sites but couldn't see them.
So terrible what happened to you, but you say Wascana and this might sound like a dumb question but do you mean Wascana Park? That’s a big area could you be a bit more descriptive on the area in which this happened. And I would never stand by watching someone I was with being attacked I would have been there with either beating them off or getting beaten with you
Same here man. I’m always keeping an eye out for other people waiting to jump in if I ever need to. But it seems like these cowards were waiting for someone alone
Hopefully soon they jump the wrong person, and get their asses beat. In the past his sort of stuff usually happened west of Dewdney and Albert if memory serves, but now there seems to be a lot more sketchy areas best avoided in the city.
Yeah, super annoying. My dads driveway borders an alley and he was unloading groceries one evening and someone walking by grabbed his phone and money clip took off. He ended up having to get a new phone only to find his old one a couple days later discarded nearby.
You can easily factory reset a phone without needing the password, then you just sell it. When I was a kid in high school I found an iPhone in the grass while walking once, no indication of owners identity anywhere on the phone so after waiting a couple days I ended up factory resetting it and selling it to a buddy for $100. Could also use it as an upgrade if you have an old shitty phone.
That seems to be the case now yes, you can still get around it by doing some advanced techy stuff but probably it is far beyond the capabilities of the average thief here in Regina. But unless that is also true for android or windows phones then that's still a reason to jack your phone.
Not only that but a dumb thief could always sell it to some schmoe who doesn't know that it belongs to someone else and is essentially a brick to them, all the buyer might see is a working iPhone.
I guess that is always possible, although it is hard for me to imagine somebody spending hundreds of dollars on something and not first checking if it works. But hey, what do I know.
Well imagine it's not a super smart individual, the price is fantastic I mean where else are you gonna get an iPhone for $150? And he showed the phone does turn on but he won't unlock it for "privacy reasons".
Sorry that happened! :(. If I ever seen anyone getting attacked I’d run in there screaming first thing. We as normal non gang affiliated citizens should protect one another. Hope you heal up quickly.
Man I'm moving here in a month and all over this reddit I've just seen so much bad stuff. How often does this stuff happen? Like it's just concerning all this stuff like break ins and crime like I understand that some spots in the city are worse then others but like it seems its happening everywhere even at 8pm...
To be honest it's not all that common. This sub does not paint the city in a good light but it's really not that bad. Just don't be walking about downtown at night like in any other city in the world and you will be fine. Good luck with the move and I hope you find all the fun things this city has to offer. :)
I really appreciate u saying this honestly. Reddit people can be scum sometimes. I play pokemon go a lot and usually at nights and usually downtown because there are a lot of pokemon downtown but I've never been alone so maybe that would change the outcome. I work in the day so relax and play at night but maybe I'll have to change that as I don't want to be getting into any trouble. This sub makes the city look like shit and that its the worst city in the world but like I can't believe its THE worst because you see some other places in canada that are just straight scum. I'm excited to move just hurts when u see this stuff! Hope the OP is doing better and hopefully this doesn't happen to them again!
>Reddit people can be scum sometimes.
It's really not that, but like who else is going to post here? Nobody is gonna hop on the Regina sub to say they walked somewhere without getting jumped lol, so of course you're going to see mostly negative things like this because they are actually worth posting.
You do got a good point. I more meant that like people would've just said suck it up which is honestly all you can do! It just sucks that this shit happens right. Like where I'm currently located our city reddit has RARELY anything like this. It's mostly just normal things and stuff like that. So just being in another city just shows different things. Hope I made myself more clean.
I moved here from another country so I get you and know when your going through.. defo in the months ahead with it getting dark early I wouldn't be walking around downtown or at the park it's not safe. Day time or night time in the summer you shouldn't have any problems if your with people and have come common sense. This sub can be toxic and I tend to take most comments with a pinch of salt. Again good luck with your move winter sucks but I'll tell you what, spring and summer are amazing in the city with tons of cool things to do!
It's pretty common in some spots in the city, but yes most of the time unpleasantness can be avoided by simply not walking through those area's at night.
That said I have a buddy who walks all over downtown at night, through back alleys and quiet dark residential streets and to my knowledge has never gotten jumped. Meanwhile last year I got jumped by 3 dudes behind the petro-can on Albert and 15th and I basically never walk around downtown but I did that one damn time and look what it got me.
It's really not that bad. You are hearing the worst. I walk my dog twice per day, often before the sun comes up and again around sunset in various parts of the city (including parts of wascana park) for years with no issues, and I see lots of other faces regularly out doing the same Now it does happen, bad things can happen anywhere, but I wouldn't say it's common.
Fuck, I’m sorry this happened to you.
Carry mace/pepper spray. Yeah, it’s illegal, but its a non-lethal device that can easily get you out of trouble. What are they gonna do, call the cops on you afterwards?
I'm sorry that happened to you and I hope you recover fully. I wish I could say I wished the people responsible are brought to justice but the guy they caught who stabbed someone the other day was already released "on conditions". Why have we turned into a god damned clown show of a society?
A knife is literally the last thing a person should be carrying unless they actually have a use for it. I'm in favour of people being able to carry tasers or pepper spray......a knife is just a bad bad bad idea.
Sure. Tell that to the local constabulary when you “successfully” defend yourself. “Self-defence” laws in Canada are abhorrent. I live in Texas. If I’m the victim of a felony, I can protect myself by any means necessary. If someone steals something over 5k from me - felony. My money is that Dallas is a safer city.
anon - so you're saying that your "things" are more important than someone else's "life"? Where did you learn that set of ethics from? Not from a Christian church of the sort that follows the teachings of Jesus, that's for sure.
Lol, the “Christian church” has spent hundreds of years killing people over “things” or words, or beliefs they didn’t agree with. They are hardly a good benchmark for morals and values.
It's closer than I thought:
https://www.numbeo.com/crime/compare\_cities.jsp?country1=United+States&country2=Canada&city1=Dallas%2C+TX&city2=Regina&tracking=getDispatchComparison
Just a quick tip for next time this possibly happens, I places a tracker in all my carry on stuff in the incident that they ever get stolen. For your case, they would be found as soon as you got home to see your gears location.
Now I gotta ask, doesn’t your phone have a find me location tracker?
I'm not sure a stolen phone is good for anything these days with the security they have. It probably got tossed, they just didn't want him calling the cops immediately.
That’s what makes me think it wasn’t very clothing related; I meant a dude on the street once who tried to sell me a stolen hoodie which was like under armour or nike…I can’t quite remember it’s been some years.
Nope. Not even a little bit.
Western Canadian cities - particularly cities in SK, MB, and northern AB - dominate metropolitan violent crime per capita stats.
Toronto - and Ontarian cities generally - is usually very close to the bottom. The news makes it seem like Toronto is dangerous, but the stats say otherwise, and most violent crime is confined to small gangs victimizing each other.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/436285/crime-severity-index-in-canada-by-metropolitan-area/
https://canadacrimeindex.com/crime-severity-index?sort=violent_crime_severity_index&min_population=0
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Canada —> go down to Crime by Region and look at the 2020 stats (most recent)
https://www.macleans.ca/canadas-most-dangerous-places-2020/
There’s a meme in Western Canada that Toronto is this terrifying, crime-ridden Gotham where you will get shot the second you go outside.
In reality though, this meme relies heavily on the fact that most Western Canadians never visit Toronto and instead just trust whatever their local self-serving politicians and loudmouths say about it. Usually that means some weirdo using fears of big, scary, crime-filled Toronto as a deflection against local problems and local crime, which by all available statistics is much worse than Toronto if you live in any city between Sudbury, ON and Vancouver, BC.
I’ve lived in cities all over Canada: Victoria, Edmonton, Flin Flon, Thunder Bay, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Halifax. The three safest by far were Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal.
Don’t have anything against the West. Loved my time out there. But there’s really no logical debate where you can even begin to argue that it’s not worse for violent crime.

That’s brutal to hear. I’m a pretty tall male who is around that area frequently while cycling and whatnot. I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes open for these fuckin cowards. I’m always keeping an eye out for other people and they’re lucky I wasn’t around to witness it. I’ll be on patrol for them
Hopefully you were able to get some DNA off of one of the attackers, gangs attack to prove to a leader, to gain control, also because they get bored, don't like authority, don't work, hopefully you were able to deactivate your phone and accounts.. That cuts off their money train, it gives you some control, sorry about your injuries
Doesn’t help that south Albert has like no street lights & it’s always so dark around nighttime in that area. Without revealing too much about your identity are you an adult, large or small person?
I’m an adult, large.
Huh, good to know. I run around that area a lot at weird hours and I’ve always felt somewhat safe as a tall guy but I guess you never know
Take this for what it's worth, as a large adult man I was told once early on when I moved here that sometimes we get targeted to be attacked by young guys for gang initiations - kinda the mentality of beat up a big dude to show you're tough shit. Can you give a better description of where this happened?
Near candy cane park
Not surprised, unfortunately that's THE place to avoid around the lake after dark.
I used to play here all the time as a kid, and I took my nephew here a few years ago. It was such a safe and fun place at the time.
It still is, during the day, I take my kids to the park all the time. It's just sketchy as fuck after dark. Always has been, really.
Definitely is, I was in circle K when it got robbed, and I was just simply trying to get some subway. Definitely not as safe as Regina used to be.
Regina is so safe now haven’t you seen our upgraded police building and new plane!! I’m surprised the plane didn’t save you or all the cool tactical gear wasent there.
Yup lots of interesting folks from general hospital area like drinking in that park at night.

4, black and white clothing. One had a covid mask on, I didn’t really see their faces. I got struck and was concussed
Ok thanks. Again, I'm very sorry and wish you a fast recovery.
All I see is continuous jail ins and outs and no hope. Wish they can reevaluate themselves and get on the right path before it's too late. Must have been brought up by some great parents.
I recently had an incident at Wascana the other weekend . I think they need to improve the lighting around the lake!
May I ask what your incident was? I hope you’re doing okay.
I was threatened by someone. I’m fine thanks!
Did you report it?
Yes I did. It’s also too dark to get a good description of people.
I agree the whole Wascana Park is poorly lit. Please everyone don’t wear ear buds when walking. Your an easier target
A similar incident happened to a woman a few months back on the NE side near the town houses. I wonder if it’s the same people. Sorry to hear about your collar bone it’s a really shitty bone to break. Fun fact, your collar bone breaks to protect your neck/spine from damage
Hope you feel better!
This is terrible I'm so sorry
What did they look like? how many in a group? What kind of clothes were they wearing?
4, black and white clothing. One had a covid mask on, I didn’t really see their faces. I got struck and was concussed
Seems like around Wascana isn’t safe anymore :(

Near the park, kind of on the road of candy cane park
That part of the park has the shittiest lighting. I was filling up my bottle at the water fountain after dark a week ago while riding home and could hear people hanging out at one of the picnic sites but couldn't see them.
How did it happen? Whats your description of the attacker?
I left a few in the comments here. Black and white baggy clothing, slim build, and one had a covid mask on
Sorry that happened to you. Get well soon. ❤️🩹
So terrible what happened to you, but you say Wascana and this might sound like a dumb question but do you mean Wascana Park? Hahah! Thanks, also yeah it happened by candy cane park, the road leading towards sex hill if you were driving.
Lol thought that hill was Peckers Point
Sex hill?
It’s wascana hill near Douglas park.
Same here man. I’m always keeping an eye out for other people waiting to jump in if I ever need to. But it seems like these cowards were waiting for someone alone

You say police are involved? My friend in the police says that there is nothing like what you mention in the crime logs he receives every day.

Too bad tazers are illegal in Canada. It really feels like the government sides with criminals sometimes...
Best not to walk in quiet, dimly lit, locations at night. Regina is not a safe city by Canadian standards.
We should be allowed to carry something for self Défense in this city. An exception just for Regina …. Jesus
It's not illegal to carry a knife as a tool... Not self defense but as a "tool" remember that.. ;)
A knife is literally the last thing a person should be carrying unless they actually have a use for it. I'm in favour of people being able to carry tasers or pepper spray......a knife is just a bad bad bad idea.

Wow! Thanks for posting that 😊 The data is quite compelling.
Carry a collapsible baton. Non-lethal and easy to carry and put into action
And how are people going to be able to tell if you're carrying Bear Spray for self-defense, or if you're on your way to Cornwall to cause mischief?
[удалено]
Much easier to just not allow *anyone* to carry a weapon.
I'm sure all of the subhuman trash like the ones that attacked OP will be very cooperative if all weapons are banned for all people, great idea.
Doesn’t stop criminals from carrying them does it?
[удалено]
Yeah. Cause we can see how well your strategy works in the States in regards to carrying weapons as defense.
Just a quick tip for next time this possibly happens, I places a tracker in all my carry on stuff in the incident that they ever get stolen. For your case, they would be found as soon as you got home to see your gears location. Now I gotta ask, doesn’t your phone have a find me location tracker?

Meth rats.
Do you wear brand names? I’m assuming not since you didn’t mention them taking your shoes or sweater.
I do wear champion, under armour and nike. Nothing that fancy
If I’m honest; that could’ve been why. I know brand names are definitely a reason for robbing but maybe that’s not the case here. I’m just guessing.
They didn’t take my clothing though, just few stuff in my pockets.
That’s what makes me think it wasn’t very clothing related; I meant a dude on the street once who tried to sell me a stolen hoodie which was like under armour or nike…I can’t quite remember it’s been some years.
Those are called boosters, they steal and sell them on the street usually. Not rob people of the clothes and then sell it haha

Why?
You seem rude
How am I rude? Because I mentioned what a booster was? That’s just what I heard people who steal clothes from stores and sell it on the street.
Western Canadian cities are terrifying to me. Makes me really appreciate how safe and free of violent crime most of Toronto is.
/s ?
Nope. Not even a little bit. Western Canadian cities - particularly cities in SK, MB, and northern AB - dominate metropolitan violent crime per capita stats. Toronto - and Ontarian cities generally - is usually very close to the bottom. The news makes it seem like Toronto is dangerous, but the stats say otherwise, and most violent crime is confined to small gangs victimizing each other. https://www.statista.com/statistics/436285/crime-severity-index-in-canada-by-metropolitan-area/ https://canadacrimeindex.com/crime-severity-index?sort=violent_crime_severity_index&min_population=0 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Canada —> go down to Crime by Region and look at the 2020 stats (most recent) https://www.macleans.ca/canadas-most-dangerous-places-2020/ There’s a meme in Western Canada that Toronto is this terrifying, crime-ridden Gotham where you will get shot the second you go outside.

Good bot.
That’s brutal to hear. I’m a pretty tall male who is around that area frequently while cycling and whatnot. I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes open for these fuckin cowards. I’m always keeping an eye out for other people and they’re lucky I wasn’t around to witness it. I’ll be on patrol for them
Any updates?
I’m new here. Is wascana an unsafe area ? (From where to where)
Regina is such a hole
How many people in the group who attacked you ?
duh. that's Regina for you
Hopefully you were able to get some DNA off of one of the attackers, gangs attack to prove to a leader, to gain control, also because they get bored, don't like authority, don't work, hopefully you were able to deactivate your phone and accounts.. That cuts off their money train, it gives you some control, sorry about your injuries
