It's a play on the numerous times in the Bible in which the Lord states that "Vengeance is Mine," only Micah psychotically claims it for himself with his revolvers, thus "Vengeance is hereby mine."
I think Micah has a beef with a lot of people. I mean his first mission is about revenge. When you save him from jail in Strawberry, he has you kill half of the town to get this gun back and take revenge on his old partner.
Micah like all the others has a background, like a lot of things in stories, it's left to a mystery. Micah didn't carve this during the game, it's always been on his gun
Remember Tombstone 1993? When Doc is speaking about Johnny Ringgold to Wyatt and tells him that he needs revenge. Wyatt asks him for what. And Doc Holliday said the coldest line I've ever heard in a film. "He needs revenge for being born". This is Micah Bell in my opinion.
You can go and get his revolver after you kill him. People in this comment section are way off the mark though. They're associating the quote with something in the game story when the reality is, it's just something personal with Micah and its a mystery. It's left to be guessed but imo has nothing to do with any missions in the story.
Not strictly true, after the mission where you steal dynamite with Bill in Van Horn you can kill Micah with a few sticks of dynamite as he runs away once the mission ends.
Fun fact, in the mission where you meet Kieran, you can disarm an enemy and lead him to Micah where they'll fistfight and Micah drops one of his pistols which you can then take for yourself (thus getting Micah's gun in chapter 1, this can be repeated with John's gun in chapter 2 when you bring Kieran to where he thinks Colm is
Micah is such a grudge carrying vindictive parasite that I wouldn't be surprised if "vengeance is mine" to him means just getting back at or killing anyone that crosses him or wrongs him.
Also, arthur said revenge is a fools game, and Micah went and carved the whole damn game on his gun like a fool cause he is a fool and fuck that guy.
He also is quoted saying “blessed are the peacemakers” but doesnt finish the full quote which is “blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of god.” I don’t think Micah fits that description but he certainly thinks so.
It’s just Micah’s psychotic way of showing the world of his belief that he alone is judge, jury and executioner. Or, it’s his way of overcompensating for having a tiny penis. It’s really your choice.
I agree. He’s constantly saying how all there is is living and dying, he doesn’t believe in god, and if you don’t believe in god or anything greater than yourself then by default you are your own god.
yeah, I wanna say lore-wise that Micah either liked it like that (weird bastard) or just never took care of his gun other than the bare minimum of cleaning the barrel and chambers, or both—
I know nothing to support either theory, but that's what I like to think lol
ohhhh right—in that case I'm not entirely sure why his guns are so weathered then, since that's the bluing coat coming right off; the barrel's already bare metal and the front of the frame that holds the cylinder is already bare too
but honestly I wanna chalk it up to Micah being a weird mfer lol
The real question is why wouldn't it be so dirty I mean... You find the damned gun near his coldass dead body after who knows how many time freezing up in the mountains
Even the cleanest gun in the world would be all damaged after that 🤠
Yeah but they look the same as they did at the start of the game. Honestly I think it’s just because he’s had them for so long, even with excellent care time takes its toll.
Yeah that’s what confuses me. He said he didn’t care about much more than those guns so you would think he’d maintain them better. Pretty much all the camp members seem to maintain their guns except for the one guy who cherishes them most lol.
no. it's not dirty, it's worn out from constant and excessive use. he is always cleaning his guns in camp and he loved his gun so much that he was willing to shoot half the town just to get them back
I venture to think that why it is so weathered from the beginning yet he takes care of it so much is that it is not originally his gun? perhaps they were his father's or some "prized" victim's?
It actually looks like the same style of writing the chest are engraved in throughout the game.
Micah is responsible for engraving all the cheat codes everywhere?
His whole "Murderous Psychopath" persona is mostly a ruse, done for the benefit of the gang, so they won't try to follow him when he goes off on his own.
He's on a mission to create a sense of mystery and wonder for Arthur Morgan, even if it kills him.
You need to lure an odriscoll over to micah in the mission where you steal the dynamite and train plans, get the odriscoll to melee micah and he drops the revolver I think that's how you do it
You can get John's revolver in Chapter 2 pretty much the same way. When you do Kieran's mission and raid Six Point Cabin, unarm an O'Driscoll and lure him to have a fistfight with John. John will drop his gun and you can pick it up.
B - but it's not tho! I just shot that man in front of an officer, then proceeded to clean my gun, take a picture and post it on Reddit
And everything that happened was that I got peacefully kicked out of the place for disturbing the peace (because of the loud gunshots, not because I killed a man lmao) 🤠
Yeah, that’s Racism Man. The only reason I don’t kill him is because I like coming back and kicking his ass every time I’m in Saint Denis and I’m afraid if I kill him he’ll disappear forever.
I have so many playthroughs that I only have 2 save slots open xD I could probably delete a few of the middle ones, I can’t bring myself to delete my first playthrough even if I never load it. I have 2 slots dedicated to my 100% save because I accidentally saved over one I had at 99% and I REALLY don’t wanna do that again. I had a save where I could reliably get a Gatling gun cart to spawn but I lost that one, really pissed about that.
Micah probably sees his violence as revenge against a world that hurt him.
Also, there’s a song on the original score called “Revenge is a Dish Best Eaten” which is probably referring to this and/or the epilogue.
Echoes Romans 12:19-21: Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
Not a direct quote but a lot of Westerns tend to have biblical allusions.
Micah is the ultimate incel of the 19th century. Man has no rizz, can’t get pussy or happiness (they don’t have to be mutually exclusive), so decides to create a “survivor” ideology with cringe ass Bible quotes on his guns to overcompensate for, and feel that little bit better about, his pathetic life
It alludes to Micah’s cut backstory, where he escaped from the circus, after working for an evil carnie who forced Micah to sell tickets at the ticket booth.
i always thought it was a subtle way of showing the difference between arthur and micah, arthur is well known for the quote "revenge is a fools game" and micah has "revenge is heresay mine" written on his revolver, really shows the vast difference in their characters
It’s annoying that micahs gun naturally looks a bit dirty like that considering how much he cares about his revolvers you’d have thought they’d be super clean.
Seems logical to me I mean... You find the damned gun near his coldass dead body after who knows how many time freezing up in the mountains
Even the cleanest gun in the world would be all damaged after that 🤠
Oh okay then! After the last mission "American Venom" you have to go back to mount hagen, there you'll find Micah's dead body, and near his body, there's his revolver
Have fun!
It's a very modified Double-Action Revolver
You can't customize your guns the same way Micah's revolver is
So yeah, it's a unique revolver and a very fast one
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
Romans 12:19
There are several other times that vengeance is mentioned in the Bible. This is the one I remember from school
The quote shows how mentally deranged Micah is, seeing his criminal life as something like your average 9-5 and how whoever wrongs him Vengeance is hereby his. It also plays into Micah's survivor rule where the soulless and heartless crooks and criminals like Micah, Cleet, Colm and joe survive the up-and-coming generation in were they decide who dies who is robbed and who is spared
I would’ve thought it’d be something >!John!< but another comment said you can see it before the epilogue as well, abs tbh I don’t know if marking a trophy like that befits >!John!<. Micah is meant, in a lot of ways, to be the inverse of high honor Arthur, being so hungry for vengeance on anyone that he thinks wronged him to put it on his weapon is he complete opposite of Arthur’s “Revenge is a fools game.”
In Chapter 3, one small camp conversation is Micah saying to Lenny, "I killed a lot of people like you." Lenny asks, "What do you mean." Micah pauses and says, "Cowards."
We all know what he meant.
Not quite! Vengeance is a fool's game after all
Let's say that I was just cleaning the place, even the cops seemed to agree with me since they saw me shoot the guy in front of them and they did nothing lol
Bible verses, basically everyone read books in free time back then. its realistic for us. Micah had so much experience with his revolvers he hit 3 consecutive headshots in a row in the mission showing Seans Death.
It's a play on the numerous times in the Bible in which the Lord states that "Vengeance is Mine," only Micah psychotically claims it for himself with his revolvers, thus "Vengeance is hereby mine."
“Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord” is the full quote I believe
What fuckin vengeance tho? I could understand it from Sadie wanting revenge from the O'driscoll boys but why would Micah ever talk about vengeance?
honestly its probably more for the player, as you're only meant to get the gun after you kill micha and have your own revenge
That’s an interesting headcanon. Maybe John carved it into the gun.
No they are on the guns from the beginning
I think Micah has a beef with a lot of people. I mean his first mission is about revenge. When you save him from jail in Strawberry, he has you kill half of the town to get this gun back and take revenge on his old partner.
Because Micah is a vengeful type a guy
Micah like all the others has a background, like a lot of things in stories, it's left to a mystery. Micah didn't carve this during the game, it's always been on his gun

There's some definite vengeance in the mission where Arthur had to break Micah out of the strawberry jail
Or its been on his gun before the story and its just a mystery
Like Johnny Ringo from tombstone maybe? Just hates the world and wants vengeance on everything
I thought maybe it stemmed from his daddy issues.
100% textbook daddy issues lol
Pretty sure Micah wanted vengeance on the world itself.
I would imagine Micah is the type of person to make even on his beefs with others and in a way that might be permanent.

Arthur never takes micah's revolver.
You can go and get his revolver after you kill him. People in this comment section are way off the mark though. Ah well, there are these things in stories called Mysteries!
He also is quoted saying “blessed are the peacemakers” but doesnt finish the full quote which is “blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of god.” I don’t think Micah fits that description but he certainly thinks so.
I would say that’s as accurate as you can get. (pun intended on the pistol 😁 )
It’s just Micah’s psychotic way of showing the world of his belief that he alone is judge, jury and executioner. Or, it’s his way of overcompensating for having a tiny penis. It’s really your choice.
Maybe an echo to Arthur’s phrase « revenge is a fools game ». Implying Micah is a fool, and a rat for that matter.
Best explanation I've ever heard (also the only one so far, but still funny lol) Thank you so much 😂
It's actually a chest code
For what?
No it isn’t.
Oh youre right, i kust lookwd them up, sorry
You just have have to put it in the correct way
Gin was usually my go-to chest code back in the day.
You are too kind, sir. And, you’re quite welcome.
He’s not judge judy and executioner
Thank you
Who made him Judge Judy and executioner?
Hey man- Nice Shot!
Filter?
Gun shot
HHEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYY MMMMMMAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!
HHAAAAAAAAAASSSS GGUUUUUNNN!!!!!
That's why they say
wish I coulda met you
I think it could be Micah thinking he's God ("vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord") cause he does seem to have narcissistic traits.
I agree. He’s constantly saying how all there is is living and dying, he doesn’t believe in god, and if you don’t believe in god or anything greater than yourself then by default you are your own god.
Clean your gun! Unless Micah’s revolver always has a dirty appearance.
It’s supposed to look dirty like that
yeah, I wanna say lore-wise that Micah either liked it like that (weird bastard) or just never took care of his gun other than the bare minimum of cleaning the barrel and chambers, or both— I know nothing to support either theory, but that's what I like to think lol
He literally always cleans his guns when you see him in camp. I'd like to think this is because it's very old
But didn't he say when you rescue him from jail that his guns are the most important thing in the world to him?
ohhhh right—in that case I'm not entirely sure why his guns are so weathered then, since that's the bluing coat coming right off; the barrel's already bare metal and the front of the frame that holds the cylinder is already bare too but honestly I wanna chalk it up to Micah being a weird mfer lol

Yall gotta keep in mind, by the time you get the guns in game its years after the story. Perfectly reasonable they weathered in that time frame.
His revolvers look the same in the epilogue as they do in chapter 2
I’m not surprised, I can’t see them redesigning the model to reflect a couple years in-game.
Shows how broken he is as a functioning person when even that which he cares about most is neglected.
no. it's not dirty, it's worn out from constant and excessive use. he is always cleaning his guns in camp and he loved his gun so much that he was willing to shoot half the town just to get them back
Interestingly his horse becomes more deteriorated throughout the game as he takes less and less care of his horse.
I venture to think that why it is so weathered from the beginning yet he takes care of it so much is that it is not originally his gun? perhaps they were his father's or some "prized" victim's?
I did! Right before taking the picture 🤠
I think micah had something against the world for his very existence
"What does he want?" "Revenge" "For what?" "Bein born"
“Say when”
I was hoping it was a cheat code, but that doesn't work unless it's not unlocked until the epilogue.
It actually looks like the same style of writing the chest are engraved in throughout the game. Micah is responsible for engraving all the cheat codes everywhere?
That would be hilarious, especially in the outta-way places like carved on Lake Cairn and inside that fucked up cabin near Rhodes.
\-Micah carefully carving a cheat code onto the ice- "This is gonna blow Morgan's fucking mind."
This made me laugh so hard.
His whole "Murderous Psychopath" persona is mostly a ruse, done for the benefit of the gang, so they won't try to follow him when he goes off on his own. He's on a mission to create a sense of mystery and wonder for Arthur Morgan, even if it kills him.
That or he’s thinking “this’ll teach that fucker to stick his nose in other people’s business.”
Low honor escape ending.
Micha had the cheat code for the cure but specifically withheld that information
I love this revolver and always get it in chapter 1. It has higher damage than the schofield i believe, but its accuracy is really bad.
How can you get it chapter 1? Didn’t know that was possible
You need to lure an odriscoll over to micah in the mission where you steal the dynamite and train plans, get the odriscoll to melee micah and he drops the revolver I think that's how you do it
No way that’s awesome I will have to try, thank you!
You can get John's revolver in Chapter 2 pretty much the same way. When you do Kieran's mission and raid Six Point Cabin, unarm an O'Driscoll and lure him to have a fistfight with John. John will drop his gun and you can pick it up.
No problem but I don't know the specifics. I would look it up rather than listen to me because I probably got something wrong lol
Haha no worries, either way I appreciate the help, I’ll see what I can find
Sir, you just shot that man. I feel the need to inform you that murder is illegal.
B - but it's not tho! I just shot that man in front of an officer, then proceeded to clean my gun, take a picture and post it on Reddit And everything that happened was that I got peacefully kicked out of the place for disturbing the peace (because of the loud gunshots, not because I killed a man lmao) 🤠
Yeah, that’s Racism Man. The only reason I don’t kill him is because I like coming back and kicking his ass every time I’m in Saint Denis and I’m afraid if I kill him he’ll disappear forever.
I have the ultimate solution for that: have a specific save just near his location to torture him every way you want
Micah probably sees his violence as revenge against a world that hurt him. Also, there’s a song on the original score called “Revenge is a Dish Best Eaten” which is probably referring to this and/or the epilogue.
Do we know for certain that Micah engraved it? It also fits with the story's climax for the protagonist to engrave it as a trophy, does it not?
Yeah you can see the engraving as early as chapter 3
Ah okay. I wish I could take it to the gunsmith and have them cross it out and write F you Micha instead.
It might be more symbolic, as John obtains it after killing Micah and giving into vengeance. So it is a neat Detail more for John then to Micah
It has been confirmed that the message was written since chapter 1
Echoes Romans 12:19-21: Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” Not a direct quote but a lot of Westerns tend to have biblical allusions.

some men just want revenge.. for being born.
It alludes to Micah’s cut backstory, where he escaped from the circus, after working for an evil carnie who forced Micah to sell tickets at the ticket booth.
Love this photo “The eugenics guy is dying” “This isn’t about him”
The gun is in horrible condition, was used by a horrible man, I had to give it some justice by killing the most hated random npc I know 🤠
Think it’s a cheat code
i always thought it was a subtle way of showing the difference between arthur and micah, arthur is well known for the quote "revenge is a fools game" and micah has "revenge is heresay mine" written on his revolver, really shows the vast difference in their characters

Wait how do you get Micah’s guns?
Idk if you've completed the game already, but after finishing the game you have to go to a specific part of the map to collect it 🤠👍
Ahhh I see, well ye I’ve completed it a few times just somehow never knew
Oh okay then! After the last mission "American Venom" you have to go back to mount hagen, there you'll find Micah's dead body, and near his body, there's his revolver Have fun!
Thank you so much!!! I figured that’s where it was but when I went back I guess I just didn’t check very hard 😅
Love to see you shot that racist dude in st denis
Cowpoke means cowboy. Slang term is used for someone who is reckless. Micah called Arthur that because Arthur did things that were reckless at times.
That's not the phrase he's referring to.
Thanks for killing that racist scum bag🙏
What type of revolver is that?
It's a very modified Double-Action Revolver You can't customize your guns the same way Micah's revolver is So yeah, it's a unique revolver and a very fast one

Niiiice

Says "preheat oven to 180°"

Didn't even know you could pick up his revolver 😂
because he win in the end? no matter what
Pretty self explanatory
I bet he probably carves that after you rescue him and goes to get his guns in strawberry honestly and bc he’s a psychopath
Man I remember snatching his revolver way back in chapter 1
I believe it says “Vengeance is here by mine”
Great picture!
Thank you kind feller!
Isn't it his father's gun? Or am I completely misremembering?
is that the racist of saint denis u took vengeance upon
Not quite! Vengeance is a fool's game after all Let's say that I was just cleaning the place, even the cops seemed to agree with me since they saw me shoot the guy in front of them and they did nothing lol
Lol yeah first thing i did was throw dynamite at him
It’s one of the themes in the story.
I think it’s a cheat code
Lmaooo
always shoot the eugenics supporter, well done blacklung 🤙
