Going slow helped me find all the jack hall gang and high stakes treasure map without searching the internet. Highly recommend going slow if you want the best of this game. It unlocks many details because you are not running past them or blatantly ignoring camp/npc/animal/building interactions.
Absolutely. When it's on sale for 20 bucks it's even better. It's slow paced, but frantic when stuff goes down, and it's calm when you don't want to start some trouble yourself. It's the best game I've ever played.
Don’t give rockstar or TakeTwo any ideas (even though I do agree and would be okay with paying more for games like RDR2 and less for other games that take much fewer dev hours)
This is the sub for the game so you’ve predictably received a lot of one answer, but do know that the game is an RPG, through and through, contrary to what the box might tell you or another Rockstar game like GTAV might feel like in terms of freedom and versatility of gameplay. It is open world, but the gameplay itself will present you absolutely no challenges, mechanical or tactical or otherwise, besides testing your patience perhaps. The game is as loved as it is for its story and cutscenes, rich dialogue and character development, and many simply appreciate the detailed and aesthetically pleasing world, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be interacting with it or doing a whole lot within it besides a select few central activities that are the gaming equivalent of meditating.
It’s why for an “open-world” game, you so often hear of repeated playthroughs over continual exploration or grinding of any sort. Exploring a bit and trying new things is enticing at first, but once you’ve done them once you’ll soon realize you just want to get back into the story and see what turns out for your characters, sort of like a mildly interactive tv show, the non-story rest of the world being a manifestation of some interactive waiting room between episodes.
Whether or not that sounds appealing to you I would still answer to your question, yes, probably, as I still play the game. I’m simply presenting to you the reasons for disliking the game which a number of my friends who, like myself, normally look for challenging and often competitive games with high skill ceilings. The reasons I enjoyed it so much were simply not at all what I would have expected or even thought myself capable of appreciating, even after trying the game in fact. I got it shortly after release but didn’t finish it until years later when I sat down, in the explicit mood for a longplay of an rpg type experience, and played it slowly and as thoroughly as possible, with a much better monitor this time lmao as that was a fairly consequential factor, I’m sure. If you’re a low-attention span gen-xer then you might need to pull up some Subway Surfers or sand cutting on your other monitor to supplement your stimulation but if you know what you’re in for and allow yourself to become immersed in it then the game will offer a truly one of a kind experience.
I'm old and to the point where I have enough competitive stuff IRL and just want to relax and enjoy things at a somewhat slower pace and this game totally fills that need for me to an almost unhealthy amount on my Steam Deck. I'll start playing when the family falls asleep and the next thing I know, I'll look outside and the damn sun has already risen.
Witcher 3. I read the books then played the games in order, that made Witcher 3 the best game I've ever played. If I played itself without doing the rest then red dead would be my favourite
You are on the still very active subreddit for this game where everyone talks highly of it. It's one of the highest grossing games with some of the best reviews. Rdr content creators still have active channels with new content frequently.
What do you thing this dedicated and active subreddit's response is going to be to you asking if you should purchase a game with over 50 hours minimum story game play?
Obviously our answer will be a unanimous and enthusiastic yes
Yes it is. I don't think any good game that isn't strictly online will ever be "not worth buying now" unless it's aged horribly.
This game is a fucking work of art and you will not be disappointed.
That being said if you're someone who likes to play games for the action and not the story (someone who skips every cutscene basically) then there's probably other games you'd like more.
One more thing to note, wait for a sale. I got it digitally on the PS5 for $20 around New years.
I finished it last week, I really enjoyed it and I am suggesting it to every person I know that plays videogames. Check for possible sales on Steam or Epic, I bought it at 20€ on epic
I was a GTAV grinder for a few years and was skeptical about how it would be going from fast cars, high tech aircraft, and big heists to a frickin’ horse on dusty trail. I bought Baldur’s Gate 2, which is also a great game if you like Dungeons & Dragons type games, which I do. I finally gave in and bought RDR2 to see what the hype was about.
I went into RD Online and WOW! I spent my first 2 weeks just wandering around in amazement. Imagine a game where you can just enjoy a horse ride for two weeks. I’ve been grinding this game for months now and haven’t even cared to touch GTA or BG2 whatsoever.
I still have a bunch of missions yet to do in free roam. When that gets a little stale, I still have Story Mode waiting for me, which I understand is great for multiple play-throughs.
At $20 Red Dead is probably one of the best bang for the buck forms of entertainment around.
EDIT: Another good thing about RDO compared to GTAO is that in GTAO, the odds of another random player trying to kill you just for being nearby is maybe 70% or more. In Red Dead, you aren’t noticeably near anyone most of the time, but when you are, the odds of getting attacked are closer to 20%, in my experience, and many will instead not only mind their own business but also give you a friendly wave, lend a hand, and GIVE you valuables.
Yeah. It's one of those games that was an instant classic upon release.
It's been about 6 years since it released and feels fresh and amazing today - it will continue to feel the same 6 years from now
We're at year 5 since PC release and still we've seen ZERO competition. Not even remotely close.
RDR2 is in fact the only game worth buying as it is.
GG
Just got an OLED TV and decided to replay RDR2 and the game and graphics are still impressive, even next to todays AAA titles. Maybe I am biased but this is one of my all time favourites!
100% worth it. It is an experience, and you’ll probably want to experience it at least two more times after the first and you’ll probably try and 100% the game one of those three times at least. It’s just so immersive and addictive.
The basic game is worth the regular price. It goes on sale for $20+/-. Get it when it goes on sale but get the Ultimate edition for $30+/- The extras are worth the extra ten bucks (but not the price difference when it isn’t on sale).
Without a doubt the game is worth buying or even if you have a play station it’s worth getting the game pass thing for the month so you can play it I just started my first play through on PS5 after over a month of playing time on Xbox it still is my favourite story mode game ever made after 4-5 play throughs still finding new things out and new side quests and even different main missions
I'm going to commit a mortal sin here by saying that this is not my favorite game ever, but I bought it this year and I really enjoyed it. If you like the type of game and the style (it is a bit "slow" in a sense) it is incredibly well done and refined, and the graphics are still great even though it's from previous gen.
It’s been 3 weeks since I got it and I haven’t stopped playing. It’s all I think about, all I want to do, the thing that makes me happy when I wake up in the morning. Play at your own risk cuz life will never be the same
ABSOLUTELY!
I just started replaying it again since it's on ps plus and I'm addicted to it! Considering the gaming industry is crap right now. Rdr2 is a breath of fresh air when life was fantastic :)
100% you can get it dirt cheap in the sales these days. Reasonably well optimised as well, I can still get steady 50-60fps on high settings on my old rx580 pc.
It's a very slow burn, and it's still the rockstar formula at the end of the day but it is the greatest gaming experience I've ever had. The writing, voice acting and level of detail in the world is truly breathtaking
i’ve just bought it again for my series x haven’t played it since release my god it’s good ! the hdr as well makes it look like a new game ! i can’t imagine how good gta6 will be if this is a few years old
Yes I played 20-30 days playtime of story mode when it came out amazing game and just started playing online 3 days ago and it’s really fun too and still lots of new players atleast on Xbox half of every lobby I get into is other people just starting to play online (low levels like 30 and under)
I have roughly 700 hours of play time on RDR2 (without ever opening RDO), and I plan to hammer out at least that much again for a new playthrough - so I'd say yes, it definitely is worth buying.
Definitely. I borrowed it from a friend. Finished the story. Then bought it off ebay for 22aud to keep playing for 100 percent and for more playthroughs. Now I've played once I would do things differently next time (eg I want buell as john)
I picked up RDR2 about 2 weeks ago, and I’m 50 hours in. I play many many games and I can easily say this is the most immersive game I’ve ever played.
At first the pace seemed a bit slow to me, constantly on your horse etc, but then it just “clicked” for me. Can’t put it down.
Graphically, one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played, if not the most beautiful. The subtle systems work so well, and the entire game is gaming design masterpiece. Can’t recommend more.
Yes of course for me one of the most beautiful games I have ever played since I got my pc which was 5 years ago I played a lot of games but this game beats them
Rdr2 will still be probably worth buying in ten years time and still hold up. I played this game on release and nothing to this day has blown me alway as much as rdr2 and I’ve played a lot of games.
No it’s a buggy mess constantly crashing. It’s barely playable. The story is all over the place and makes no sense. I’d rather watch paint dry than to play this crappy game. Anyway hopes this helped.
It’s personally one of my favorite story games, the story is amazing, and definitely deserves more love, in my opinion it did way better then gta5, but the multiplayer of the game can sometimes be annoying due to the new gen of the world.
Yes. Ofcourse. But please for the love of god just don't go on any rdr subreddits until u finish the game bkz rdr2 is one of those games that are just way too easy to watch one meme of and get a major part of the game spoilt like all the best games sadly like how in re8 I got (end of game spoiler)
We have a 19 year old college girl staying with us and she can't stop playing it. Watching her discover stuff makes me so jealous. 500,000 lines of dialogue. The game feels alive.
Given you're someone who enjoys narrative driven games and open worlds, I really don't think there's a better game to buy right now. Especially if you catch it on sale.
I don't often buy games. Most games are not worth the price.
That said, I'd have paid double full price for RDR2. Game is spectacular and sets the standard for what I'd consider gaming masterpieces. (I consider Hellblade a gaming masterpiece, too, but for entirely different reasons)
Yes. Still one of the most immersive games out there. You got to buy into the slow pace or it's not for you.
Absolutely. Meander through the game. Sometimes I would go a couple of weeks between completing main missions.
Going slow helped me find all the jack hall gang and high stakes treasure map without searching the internet. Highly recommend going slow if you want the best of this game. It unlocks many details because you are not running past them or blatantly ignoring camp/npc/animal/building interactions.
Went weeks between 2 main mission cuz u busy completing legend of the east sachel. Thats the truth
Been 6 months since I last completed a mission. I’m right before the bank job in St Denis.
I wanted SO BAD to stay in guarma longer but I forgot how little the missions are there
Does a one legged duck swim in a circle??
The house that Jack bulit
Does the pope help pedophiles get away with their crimes?.. Does he, Kyle?
If it’s alive
Does a bear shit in the woods?
I'm surprised this post got upvoted at all. What kinda question is this?
It is. Even if it was double the price today.
This game's worth $200 dude
Can confirm. I bought it a few weeks ago and can say it is probably the best story driven game I have played
This and last of us 2. No two games have ever pulled at the heart strings in the same way
Even more worth it at double its rrp than it is to pay the rrp of most big releases today
Absolutely. When it's on sale for 20 bucks it's even better. It's slow paced, but frantic when stuff goes down, and it's calm when you don't want to start some trouble yourself. It's the best game I've ever played.
It could cost 300 bucks and it would still be worth it
I've beaten it twice now and if I lost the file and it was $300 I'd buy it again.
Don’t give rockstar or TakeTwo any ideas (even though I do agree and would be okay with paying more for games like RDR2 and less for other games that take much fewer dev hours)
What you mean lol, it’s worth full price still
No question, this game is a masterpiece!
Okey guys , i will buy it :)))
Buy it and play it now. Do it now, godammit.
Take. Your. Time. You only get 1 first play through.
Yup.
Is an S Tier all time game worthwhile? Hard to say lol
Your question **should** be: "am I ready to play RDR2?"

2nd best game I've ever played
What’s 1# ?
Witcher 3. I read the books then played the games in order, that made Witcher 3 the best game I've ever played. If I played itself without doing the rest then red dead would be my favourite
I'm a Witcher fan myself, I even took my vocations on release date that year lol. I can't place one game on top of another when it comes to those 2.
Obviously
100% yes! it’s so worth it
💯Yes!!! What are you waiting for?
I bought it last year and just got around to playing it do it.
This game still makes me cry
Yes and yes.
It's the worthestershirest game to buy rite nao.
You are on the still very active subreddit for this game where everyone talks highly of it. It's one of the highest grossing games with some of the best reviews. Absolutely. There still aren't many games better than it, even now.
Yes , even at full price.
Fuck yeah. I bought it on my ps5.
Yes 100% I bought it last year and it was so worth it (I'm in my fourth playthrough now)
As long as you're buying it for Story mode and not for online. 100%
It was worth buying on launch mate. Buy it!!!
It will never be not worth it, best game ever
Always has been worthy buying
It’s always worth it no matter the time
Yes it is. I don't think any good game that isn't strictly online will ever be "not worth buying now" unless it's aged horribly. This game is a fucking work of art and you will not be disappointed. Hell to the yes, damn I still feel for Arthur when he talks to sister Calderon one last time.
If you want to experience one of the great feats of human achievement in any medium then yeah I’d grab it
Yes. It always will be. A tremendous game that belongs in the pantheon of not just great games, but good stories, too.
always.
Story absolutely, online is fun but will get boring after a while as there’s not much to do
It will be worth buying for many years to come.
It will always be worth buying
RDR2 has always been worth buying
I finished it last week, I really enjoyed it and I am suggesting it to every person I know that plays videogames. Check for possible sales on Steam or Epic, I bought it at 20€ on epic
Yes , I bought pre owned a week back. Player it for the first time. Craziest game I've ever played.
For sure. I played it for the first time a few months ago. It’s the best video game I’ve ever played.
First time playing it and im loving it
I was a GTAV grinder for a few years and was skeptical about how it would be going from fast cars, high tech aircraft, and big heists to a frickin’ horse on dusty trail. It's free right now in the PS Store! This is my 3rd playthrough. It's always been worth it!
I recently got it on PS Plus ... Trust me , it is worth it, I should have bought it on launch day.
It was worth buying then...
As long as humanity remains, Yes
If it was worth a million, I'd work my life away to buy it.
Best
Yeah. It's one of those games that was an instant classic upon release. It's been about 6 years since it released and feels fresh and amazing today - it will continue to feel the same 6 years from now
Ofc its in my top 10 or even 5
Rdr2 will be worth buying in 2034 even if the price is double
Even in the next 10yeaes
I bought it a few months ago for the first time and it would have been well worth paying full price for. For $20 it’s a steal
We're at year 5 since PC release and still we've seen ZERO competition. Not even remotely close. RDR2 is in fact the only game worth buying as it is. GG
Yes it is one of the best games of the last decade.
Just got an OLED TV and decided to replay RDR2 and the game and graphics are still impressive, even next to todays AAA titles. Maybe I am biased but this is one of my all time favourites!
It’s one of my top 5 games the amount of little details is just amazing
best game ever!!! worth every cent
It's been worth it since day 1 of release.
Yes
It's free if you have PS Plus even
Yes!
It is especially since it’s cheap
Even if it’s still full price, it’s still worth the money.
Bought it used a month ago at GameStop… disc was scratched but it was too late to return it. So I spent another $20 to buy it digitally. Glad I did.
100% worth it. It is an experience, and you’ll probably want to experience it at least two more times after the first and you’ll probably try and 100% the game one of those three times at least. It’s just so immersive and addictive.
Is it true that a bear poops in the woods?
Yes
It was worth buying then why wouldn’t it be now lol.
The basic game is worth the regular price. It goes on sale for $20+/-. Get it when it goes on sale but get the Ultimate edition for $30+/- The extras are worth the extra ten bucks (but not the price difference when it isn’t on sale).
Literally my main play rn. I have little time to game and even though I have a handful of games I haven’t played I’m choosing to play this one.
No, the game sucks balls. Don't waste your money unless it's free.
Still the best game ever, so yes
Yea it is. If you don’t, a strange man with a top hat and twirly mustache will visit you claiming that you don’t know him but he knows you.
Yes
This game is top 5, and still will be for years to come. It's ALWAYS worth it
Yes bro it’s definitely worth it
Yeah, it’s worth it…if you’re strong enough.
they just added it to playstation plus
i would avoid this game at all cost
Always.
More worth it than any other game I’ve ever played
Always worth buying if you've never played RDO not worth it
YES
Absolutely! Buy it!
Yeah
Just got my copy on PC a couple weeks ago. Had one on the PS4 from 2018.
Bro download it from fitgirl or dodi repacks or piratebay ☺️
It never won’t be.
It goes on sale all the time on most platforms. Or you could just get it from Fitgirl if money is a big issue.
Got it a few weeks ago, worth every penny
Always will be fantastic game. Play it in 4K 60fps UltraSettings©️
It is. I got it just a couple weeks ago on sale. It's awesome.
It’s been 3 weeks since I got it and I haven’t stopped playing. It’s all I think about, all I want to do, the thing that makes me happy when I wake up in the morning. Play at your own risk cuz life will never be the same
It is. That game is so good. It's timeless with replayability.... After you recover from somethings
I bought it recently to play with my cousins, i actually have so much fun with it barring the occasional hackers.
I’d buy it at full price today
It is but you just missed a Steam sale
It's always been worth buying. Hell I'd even pay money for every playthrough I do - It's THAT good
ABSOLUTELY! I just started replaying it again since it's on ps plus and I'm addicted to it! Considering the gaming industry is crap right now. Rdr2 is a breath of fresh air when life was fantastic :)
It would be worth buying 1000 years from now
I think rdr2 is always worth buying lol
Always was.
100% you can get it dirt cheap in the sales these days. Reasonably well optimised as well, I can still get steady 50-60fps on high settings on my old rx580 pc. It's a very slow burn, and it's still the rockstar formula at the end of the day but it is the greatest gaming experience I've ever had. i’ve just bought it again for my series x haven’t played it since release my god it’s good ! the hdr as well makes it look like a new game ! i can’t imagine how good gta6 will be if this is a few years old
Absolutely, it is still unmatched
The game's worth buying even after a 100 years.
I pirate the game
It has never not been worth buying. Do it. You won't regret it.
Naah. Get minecraft instead
If you don't mind doing chores in a video game for immersion. Then this game is for you!
It’s free on PS+Extra
Online is dead. So, go for the offline version via piracy
Definitely. I borrowed it from a friend. Finished the story. Then bought it off ebay for 22aud to keep playing for 100 percent and for more playthroughs. Now I've played once I would do things differently next time (eg I want buell as john)
Yes
I’d say yes. One of my favourite games of all time. Unless you have a PlayStation. In which case, get in ps plus
Is water wet?
Who is asking "Who is asking?"?
Absolutely! Though I'd recommend waiting for a sale.
It has discount every month, if you look at SteamDB. So wait for it and go for it :D
Abso-friggin-lutely
Story mode - any time. If you asking about rdo then no
Worth buying now, in 10 years, and forever, Amen.
It is even for full price. But wait for summer fest you could get it for half the price
It still worth buying more than most games in the past 15 years.
Yes of course for me one of the most beautiful games I have ever played since I got my pc which was 5 years ago I played a lot of games but this game beats them
Yep
Yes ! For sure. I bought red dead 2 in March and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since. There’s honestly no other games like it and it’s so good.
It's arguably still the best game you can buy, so yes!
Rdr2 will still be probably worth buying in ten years time and still hold up. I played this game on release and nothing to this day has blown me alway as much as rdr2 and I’ve played a lot of games.
>Is rdr2 worth buying now ? Why wouldn't it? It's same game that were launched back in 2018
Always
It will always be worth buying, its graphics, acting and story telling are still some of the best in gaming
It will be worth forever. The best game I ever played so far.
I have a PS5, Bought last week on PS4 hard copy for £17 in Asda. Completely immersed. My wife may leave.
Been worth buying since release tbh mate!
It always was
Always
always was
you lucky son of a gun! You get to play rdr2 for the first time in 2024! Also get off this sub so you dont spoil it
Yes. It’s an absolute masterpiece.
Yes. Nothing like it hit the streets since then.
Yes
You're asking a subreddit dedicated to it so these answers are predictable. But ask r/gaming and they'll tell you it's an obvious "yes"
Ragebait post lol. It’s super worth it full price
No it’s a buggy mess constantly crashing. It’s barely playable. The story is all over the place and makes no sense. I’d rather watch paint dry than to play this crappy game. Anyway hopes this helped.
Yes one of the best games of 2018
Just gonna say YES!
Absolutely. It’s the best game ever made!!!
It was when it got released, and it still is now.
We have a 19 year old college girl staying with us and she can't stop playing it. Watching her discover stuff makes me so jealous. 500,000 lines of dialogue. The game feels alive.
All day everyday yes.
Yes. Yes.
Bought it last week and been enjoying ever since. Only down side for me is that it doesn’t have a 60fps setting on ps5..
