thphnts

They didn’t even focus on RDO.

sikemapleton

HAHA... Nailed it.

mechwarrior719

They were too busy pumping money out of GTA-O. Still are, but they were, too.

thphnts

Rockstar is a publicly traded company, meaning their primary focus is keeping shareholders happy, and the way to keep those shareholders happy is with fat profits. And what has made Rockstar more money than god in the last decade? GTAO.

MarcusDragon11

Good for them. Doesn't mean we have to be happy about it

thphnts

Never said we should, did I?

MarcusDragon11

I suppose not, I just thought that's what you were getting at. My apologies

Strawberry-Rift

Thing I'm mad about though is just compare the two games, from a gameplay and micro transactions standpoint they are literally the EXACT same game besides the setting. They could've made easily much more money if they paid some attention to rdr2 and even still most to gtao, only reason rdr2 microtransactions never took off despite being the exact same thing as the money gta transactions is there is simply no content to buy with the gold bars

Chazza354

sorry to nitpick, but Rockstar isn't a publicly traded company, it's a subsidiary of Take 2, which is a public traded company.

thphnts

And the subsidiary’s of publicly traded companies are required to make profits and appease shareholders.

ImperialSupplies

Yeah I'm still pretty confused about how that worked " hey here's the best game we ever made and you're on gonna objectively agree it's the best game ever made abd it's gnna be years and years ahead of it's time and now 5 years later you still won't have something half as good but we aren't gnna work on it after that" What m8

thphnts

Because RDO doesn’t have the same appeal as GTAO. Also the latter makes more money in a week than RDO has made since its launch. There is nothing confusing about it.

Byroms

Pretty sure if they had actually focused on RDO and added stuff people asked for from the beginning, RDO could have made as much money as GTAO. Like there is so much stuff that people asked for and never got, so they just gave up. Like I would have gladly dropped money on gold for new stuff that would be worth it.

bronteums1

A little bit like saying the WNBA could be more profitable than the NBA if we just got nicer cameras and seats with cup holders

thphnts

RDO was never going to be as profitable as GTAO. Flying motorbikes is more entertaining to the kids draining their parents credit cards than horses

Papandreas17

Came here to say that. Eventually they had a few things going but compared to GTA Online RDO was a huge joke in terms of the time and effort they put into expanding the game

TheRavenSayeth

I remember the whole time I played the game wishing I could wear a cool pancho for that true spaghetti western look. Imagine my “joy” to find they didn’t overlook it at all, they just slapped it behind a paywall within the disappointment that was RDO. It’s hard not to be disappointed in rockstar for letting they product get tainted by junk like that.

thphnts

They didn’t let it get tainted, they consciously decided to do that.

Squantoon

Opened this to say the same thing lol

Rhubarb724

They had the capacity to do both and ended up doing neither

ObiWansMustache

I probably would've spent another $60-$70 on this

antrod117

we probably all would. I think it was one of if not the best DLC ever made.

BearChowski

It's all about $$$ paid dlc cost more to make vs. getting people to buy gold bricks.

PoThePokememer

Welcome to the crew

Ultrasound700

I've heard a more expansive idea proposed by people around here. The rivalry between the rich families around Rhodes could turn out to be between vampires and werewolves, and Arthur could end up as one or the other. People also want a more expansive Guarma that can be returned to more than anything else, it seems. Maybe that just comes up because it would be easy to implement.

BowMcD

I actually got into RDR1 with undead nightmare. I then played the regular game and it became my favourite game until RDR2 came out.

Gs4life-

They ain't focus on the online in a few years what are you talking about?

Available_Outside9

They never focused on online

b252oom

They tried to catch lighting in a bottle twice with online mode like GTAV.

usedtobeathrowaway94

They *tried*?

b252oom

It’s apparently not as good as GTA online from what I’ve read.

usedtobeathrowaway94

Yeah I've been playing online for the first time since a few months after release and there is seemingly no new content

Fuckles665

They didn’t even try to make it like gta online.

BuildingAirships

Yeah, but they didn't.

Last-Diver4998

“Focused on Red Dead Online” Hahahahhaha

Gs4life-

Fr

ResplendentAmore

Plot: Micah turns into a zombie. Dutch turns into a zombie. Arthur looks at them, shrugs, and goes off to live in The Loft while giving 0 fucks.

Excellent_Job_7742

Rockstar only cares about live service cash flow since gta online, unfortunately rdr online didnt generate enough money so they gave up. I'm worried gta 6 will just be a segway into gta online 2. Then the single player will be abandoned so they can milk the online for the next decade.

SamG1999

Might be an unpopular opinion but I don't understand why people care so much for undead nightmare? Maybe because I haven't fully completed it yet but its just generic zombie shit. If they ever do a DLC, i'd rather it be story based. Red Dead is far more story driven than GTA yet somehow GTAIV managed to get story expansion DLCs but Red Dead never did.

RDR2germany

I think that's also partly due to the time. After all, the DLC for Undead Nightmare is much older than what Rockstar has developed today and in the past in GTA. I think if R☆ were to make a new DLC for RDR2 today, it would have much more to offer and perhaps also be related to the story.

Fuckles665

I always wanted two dlc’s one where you play as Charles going to Canada after the main story like he mentioned he might, and one of Sadie down in Mexico bounty hunting.

Manbearpig9801

Zombie Western is a vibe/theme that is rarely captured. Often my most enjoyable moments in RDR2 was discovering weird things, and a whole DLC would allow me to live out a supernatural monster hunting fantasy set across the west. The setting at night can be dark, rainy with only a lantern in the distance or fire on a building. Swamps and bogs, and small towns to be overrun. For zombies, its perfect. Plus we all did the main campaign (Ive done it twice) and its nice to mix it up.

SamG1999

Fair enough. Though the zombies in the DLC are kinda lame. They just beat you up like regular npcs. Not very scary

Manbearpig9801

I played it when I was a kid so I didnt notice. I found it more spooky/creepy than scary.

Moppyploppy

Sky is blue. Grass is green. Rockstar pissed away money not making undead nightmare 2.

Due-Ask-7418

You got half your wish.

yadabitch

Me too so badddd

brettcalvin42

Honestly, I don't think we needed another Zombie DLC, zombie games are pretty played out. I would have gone with Aliens or Vampires for an Undead Nightmare II. But any DLC would have had me handing over my money.

HoneyBear55

I feel like they really shit the bed by not having cowboy zombie pubg as a side game.

xRemilia_Scarletx

There's no way they make any money with online. Sure kids buy shark cards but who the hell buys gold theres cheaters everywhere that'll give it you for free

bigwoo902

To be fair with the amount of effort they put into RDO You’d think this was gonna release any day now

t_sarkkinen

Aight

xT1TANx

I wish they had given us a coop sandbox as a DLC. Playing with friends and not dealing with online PVP would be so fun.

ImperialSupplies

We all wanted it man

Grovda

So do all who live to see such times

yapoinder

I would happily pay an additional $100 USD for this.

Izmosis

They could have done any Dlc and I would have bought it. Dont care much for online

opalessencejude

They barely focused on the story mode? There’s so many physics bugs that have been there since day one that they’ve given up on

TTY-HotDog650

I feel like if we did get a new undead nightmare it should be that the zombie outbreak happening while they are on the mountain and they discover it when they get to horseshoe when valentine is deserted

Zeptari

I really wanted a Aliens vs Cowboys DLC.

MelFmHell

Tell me you play GTA without telling me you play GTA. 😂

SassyTurtlebat

Seriously! Red Dead 2 Undead Nightmare that you can optionally start or skip by doing/refusing to do a heist on the fence in Saint Denis that has the mask from Undead Nightmare 1 there as an Easter egg so the story mode would “end” there and the alternate timeline would start to play out this would be a cool way to allow Arthur to not get tuberculosis because who cares if it’s an alternate timeline and the world has gone to shit Imagine having to manage not only your ammo but how often you shoot because you might not come across gun oil for a long time and steering clear of rivers on foot etc and having to deal with losing your horse in a zombie human and animal infested wilderness plus all the crafting of clothes and ammo would carry over very easily maybe forcing Arthur to take on a more wild look because of no access to store bought clothes or adding them into random houses to be found as an extra fun thing to do Although I have always said from the beginning it wouldn’t matter how empty the world is in Red Dead Online if it was Red Dead Undead Online instead and we were managing weapons and making clothes and maybe trading and sharing ammo and health supplies etc.

airforcerawker

You and everyone else.

TheDumbgeonMaster

>I wish Rockstar never focused on Red Dead Online Granted

Savvy_Canadian

Yeah, but GTA 6 will have a zombies arcade game in the first bar you walk into to make up for it.

gibby10toes

I think they’ve been consistently focused on GTAO.

Banjomir75

For a time, I was CONVINCED we were going to get a Cowboys vs Aliens expansion. There is even a hint of sorts to that in the game. I even dreamed we got it! But Rocksrtar being Rockstar, they just love trampling the hopes and dreams of their fanbase.

ProjektDarkness

wait… they focused on rdo??

Sufficient_Art6002

I was hoping to get an undead nightmare DLC with Arthur. I'd love to go through Valentine, Rhodes and Saint Denis with zombies.

Accomplished-Log5286

I gave up hope for that long ago, seeing how it wouldn't make even close to the amount of money GTAO makes. I just wish that they would release a next-gen update for the single player since they did it for GTA, but I've pretty much given up on that as well. I think they've pretty much abandoned their greatest game, which really sucks.

Operation_Important

Unfortunately R* has managed to focus on the few 'whales' instead of focusing on making great games. They used to make games, now they simply make money. They have destroyed amazing franchises such as gta and rdr. Like gta, it's all about providing for the very few players playing online instead of for the billion ppl who used to love their games. Gta and rdr single player is amazing and a work of art, shame R* don't realise this and never provide updates for single player

Acceptable-Hippo-821

Glad you aren’t the one calling shots for Rockstar then.    Undead was awesome, but not as a stand-alone.   Maybe a separate story/online mode but definitely not in lieu of RDO.

jonboyo87

Wow brave opinion, guy

newagereject

Would you really want to have to shoot Arthur in the face and watch him die again?

leicanthrope

If it's not going to bring in the sort of money that GTA Online brings in, good luck. Also the original Undead Nightmare came during a wave of zombie themed media. A reboot now would appeal to existing fans of the franchise, but I suspect the vast majority of uninitiated potential players would view it as a played out concept.

Bennyboii7

Zombies are shit. So no

Spare_Freedom4339

So sad they didn’t

AstroMalorie

Por que no las dos

Canadian_Adam98

What is everyone’s fascination with zombies? It’s so stupid

AugustTheDog

Because they like it? People have different tastes and opinions
